Tomato seeds are up.

Smoky planting the tomato seeds last Wednesday. Finally no rain. Thursday the other area was planted.

Tomato seeds packaged up ready to be sown direct into the buckets. 1 packet of seeds for each bucket. 3 seeds per packet if they are our own seeds. 5 seeds per packet if new to us. Strongest plant will be kept, others removed. Hopefully this weeks bad weather is the end of winter. Plans made up and labels written. All buckets have been emptied of the old compost and most have been filled with new compost, all have new hazelwood stakes. So job for this week, fill remainder of buckets with new compost and sow the seeds, if the rain stays away.

Soon it will be time to sow the seeds. 3 of our own seeds into a 10 litre bucket and later on 2 plants removed. Lots of work in the next few weeks. Weather at the moment is totally brilliant, never known a Labour weekend like it in 20 years. Winter could still have a sting.

Wagner Blue Green

This great “Blue” tomato comes from renowned heirloom/OP breeder Tom Wagner. Colour is an incredible blue, with green flesh! Beautful and great flavour! The round fruits are around 3 inches in diameter, and are very smooth and blemish-free.

Helsing Junction Blues

Bred in 2012 by famed tomato breeder Tom Wagner and named for Helsing Junction Farm near Rochester, Washington. Large, 3/4 ", round dark blue to purple cherry tomatoes. Produces heavy loads of blue/black tomatoes that have a distinct acidic tang to the sweetness. Early fruit color appears red to purple. Harvest these cherry tomatoes when fruit is dark blue.

Blue Berries

(AKA Indigo Blue Berries) This is a new, small cherry variety from Brad Gates. Produces sprawling plants that yield big quantities of 1/2", dark purple color (dark enough to call it "black") indicating that it is rich in anthocyanins. When fully ripe these tomatoes turn red where the fruit was shaded; and purple/black where the fruit has received the most sunshine. This is one for the adults not as sweet as most small tomatoes with a real tomato taste. The purple/black clusters are beautiful to look at on the vine or in the bowl.
