Is that you? 🐴

If left for awhile between uses, an existing HERDD bed can be re-activated & fluffed with a sprinkle of cold water? 💦

👉🏼 A HERDD bed that is left for some time unused, goes through the process of dehydrating itself (aka drying out) ↩️

👉🏼 It’s the opposite process of when you first open that bag of fresh NZ grown HERDD bedding & activate it 🚿↪️

👉🏼 Unsoiled HERDD doesn’t get soggy & heavy like other traditional bedding options when dampened, instead it fluffs back up for another round 🍿🥊

👉🏼 ‘Resting’ beds for a while is good for bed hygiene, especially when it’s helping you manage your horses & stock through weeks of constant rain & muddy terrain ☔️🐖

👉🏼 When resting the bed for a number of days, “toss” it over to let the bottom layers air out, just like airing laundry 🧺

Muddy at your place?

Here’s a helpful HERDD hack = A temporary fix to a muddy patch in a high-use area

1️⃣ Tip dry HERDD bedding straight out of the bag into the mud puddle. Then leave it to soak for 15 mins, & you’ll have greatly reduced the wet.

2️⃣ You can leave the HERDD there, & it will work into the soil (nourishing it too),

OR

▶️ If it’s really wet & muddy, scoop the now ‘activated’ HERDD up & scatter that on a less wet mud patch (it’ll keep absorbing). Then repeat 1️⃣ above with another bag, & you will have significantly dried out your muddy gate way / high-use area ✅

We thought we’d share this TIP as it’s becoming quite popular to grow these unique, delicious fungi! (maybe after showed us how it’s done on )

A growing number of mushroom gardeners are using HERDD bedding’s uniquely rich Northland pine to successfully grow their ‘shrooms 🍄‍🟫 Typically hardwood has been better, but given HERDD bedding’s natural properties result in significantly higher density pine, HERDD also offers an effective growing base 🍄

With these damp misty winter days, there is too much atmospheric moisture hanging about to really dry stable beds out during the day 🌫️🌫️🌫️

HERDD bedding is a huge help when managing dampness - here’s how:

Keep an open bag of HERDD bedding in your barn, & with a feed scoop (or ice cream container), add 2 scoops of UNactivated HERDD into the beds & mix it in 🍿

This will wick away moisture, and you’ll see the UNactivated start to activate, just from the moisture that hasn’t been able to evaporate like it would in drier weather 💦☂️

For those curious, here is a post on $$. We wanted to share this with our Followers, loyal HERDDy’s & potential new customers, so you can get a better understanding of exactly what makes HERDD bedding cost what is costs 🪙

We’re pretty happy to say we haven’t increased HERDD bedding’s pricing since the beginning, nearly 3 years ago - Why? Simply put, we want HERDD to be great value for you; we want you to feel like you are getting a high quality product for a fair price so you stay loyal to us, & us to you 🥰

HERDD’s brand ethos centres around the 3 things you see printed in big font on our bags: HIGH QUALITY, CONVENIENCE & ECO-FRIENDLINESS. We have one more too, COMMUNITY SUPPORT. Read on to see how these principals manifest in reality 🌏

Ok, so here’s an idea of what makes the cost of a 22KG bag of HERDD bedding what it is 👉🏼

1️⃣ Our product is manufactured from the highest quality Northland pine, which is rich in natural pine resins & highly absorbent & long lasting
➡️ We have to pay up for that quality, as we all know you get what you pay for

2️⃣ We choose to avoid plastic. Our bags cost us more versus if we chose to bag in plastic, but because HERDD’s founder is passionate about reducing single use plastic consumption & encouraging every person to do “their little bit” to reduce waste
➡️ This should reduce your costs of disposing to landfill, as composting, recycling or repurposing a HERDD bag should cost you nothing

3️⃣ Our bags are oversized, containing more bedding volume than any other similar alternatives
➡️ You are buying 22KG of compressed bedding that activates to 4x the bag’s dry volume. We made the bags as BULKy as possible, yet still able to lift by hand & store in small spaces (yep, it’s convenient)

4️⃣ We employ a community of adults with special needs in our manufacturing process. That means we provide jobs for people in our community, & in turn those jobs provide them with much more than just an income; it offers relationship building, friendships, & days filled with fun & purpose
➡️ It’s an absolute joy to visit the hive of activity at the factory, it’s truly the most uplifting atmosphere & we particularly love Christmas time when we bring out the goodies 🍫🍬

5️⃣ You are probably not surprised to hear ‘logistics’ is a big component of our operation. With bulky, heavy products comes storage, freighting, machinery & careful planning to ensure you get your HERDD bedding when you want it (at short notice)
➡️ Our average lead time from order to delivery is ~4 days, that’s pretty quick! (we guide to 1 week, but it’s USUALLY much quicker)

6️⃣ Last but not least (as this is a cost that makes everything more expensive) FREIGHT (i.e. Delivery to our stockists or to you directly): Freight is a nightmare! 💀
➡️ But our promise to you is that we will secure the most economical delivery option (trust me, much time is spent chasing competitive freight fees).
The difference between the retail price of a bag of HERDD bedding in Auckland/Waikato stockists, and say, the Wairarapa or Blenheim, is 100% because of freight. There is no ‘margin’ added to this cost - it’s simply a cost that has to be passed through & you see that in the differences between retail prices across NZ.
