The Broodmare Herd
I am totally enjoying the journey and fortunate enough to have a little well established all round breed from great blood and bone that vary from the East Coast Bloodlines to Ngahiwi Holden Horses, New Zealand Performance Horses, Paul Johnston Bloodstock, John Love Bloodstock aswell top Gisborne Ambling lines and Te Urewera Walking Horses,
Here’s a snippet video of them all turned out for the winter grazing and bonding as a herd should making sure that every foal is well looked after with great broodmares who take care in their well being and horse education as far respect, boundaries, loyalty, freedom and survival,
Thank you to all the endless support Tui Teka.
Bella (Gisborne Bred Pony)
It’s been another amazing 3 weeks starting Bella alongside Hukanui together as the winter days past and having only a little time on my shoulders to get Bella started under saddle, she’s well bred and will be staying with me in the herd until the owner returns to Gisborne in few years,
From wild to willing another great foundation established in only 3-4 weeks going from never been ridden to carrying a saddle and rider confidently without a bridle in the open working on all her transition from walk, trot, canter aswell as sitting on the bean bag and laying down in a matter of weeks,
This mare will be rewarded as she will be turned back out with the herd that I have specifically selected over the last few years to bred with Mata Ninjah a well bred East Coast stallion who through great temperaments, conformation and movement aswell as the spunk and bling,
Thank you all for the endless support Tui Teka.

This is a documented television series following the inside journey of four talented horse groups who have set out to start a completely wild horse to willing within 100 days,

Te Kahuitara also known as TK is a 4 year old gelding bred by Jim Morice of Ruatoria with a long history of East Coast Horses known as the Wiwi Ngaati Horses,
His estimated height is 14.2hh so can be measured as a pony or smaller hack, his colour is seal brown with three white socks, a white strip and snip.
He has been castrated with dental work done and wolf teeth removed by East Coast Vets of Gisborne.
Easy to catch, worm, tie up, pick up feet, shoe, cover, wash down, load up on truck or float, mount & dismount, saddle & bareback, halter or bridle, bit or bit-less if preferred.
TK is an absolute one in a million pony or small hack that would be suitable for children as well as a confident rider who would be devoted to taking him through to success with a willing partnership both in and out of the arena.
TK has three even paces with both elevation and extension in his movement that would suit hunting, show jumping, show hunter, dressage, eventing and show hack classes.
His proven temperament, conformation and capable versatilities beyond the arena would also suit farm hacking, pig hunting and horse trekking nationwide.
He has been backed/started under-saddle professionally by Frank Hina and Tui Teka of Better Horsemanship. TK has a solid foundation educated within the last 100 days going from wild to willing and is now

Just another day for me really doing what I always love doing with my horses and sharing that day with my partner, family and friends in Pukekohe,

Once again appreciate all birthday messages!!!

Once again my heart is deepened humbly through the love and support of people who have helped me generously along the way in my journey in life and for that I can not thank all enough,
Secondly to Michelle Lee and Brent Job alongside all the “Hoiho- Riding On” crew who only gave me a weeks notice to prepare the horses to be on set that weekend and to then put it all together and showcase it on Maori Television lastnight is beyond words that I can not express but was felt deeply and humbly within my heart,
Also like to thank Sarah Aitkens, Bruce Holden, my father Tiopira Rauna, my childhood cousin Apirana Ngerengere, Machaela Hale & my son TJ Robert Teka for supporting me on this episode of hoiho with their words of wisdom and encouragement because without them all I wouldn’t be who I am,
Lastly I’d like to acknowledge all my horses for giving me their time and effort throughout that weekend and making it all truely possible for me to be a learning student of the horse, with horse and for the horse to then become a mediator and communicator to better educate us humans to seek a more connected approach and mindfulness partnership with our four legged friends,
If you haven’t watched it already I will put up a link on my page but for now here’s a little snippet of what was captured in the moment back in Te Tairawhiti Gisborne in late May of this year,
Nga mihi nunui kia koutou oti ra kia tatau katoa!!!

!!!The Starting Process!!!
These days I’m very selective taking on youngsters to be started undersaddle for clients as I have a small family of my own nowadays and have been dedicating most of my time to them and learning what fatherhood is all about and it seems to relate a lot to starting or backing youngsters undersaddle, it’s a process not and event so I myself would try my best to never put a time limit on it as it causes to much unnecessary pressure which eventually can be accounted for further along if your not too careful, horses are very logical animals as they only need food, water, shelter, safety, security, communication and leadership to survive peacefully among one another and other animals on earth, It’s when they encounter us humans things change alot for horses as we set time limits, agendas, plans, gatherings, functions, around these animals for our pleasures, so in all honesty it’s very unnatural the minute you consider confining and restrict these animals when they where born on earth to roam freely and survive instinctively in a herd, as horseman or a dedicated communicator with horses over the years I’ve learnt more about myself then I have about horses and parts I’ve learnt about horses is that they don’t judge you for what you look like or the materialistic things you own in life such as clothing, education, property, finances, successes and many more, they judge you for how you make them feel and most of all your communication towards them and this is we’re most humans tend to not really play that part well for the horses sake, alot of communication is coordinated or delivered through an emotional state of mind and it’s humanised as if these animals are humans or should become humans, if that’s the case all wild or feral roaming horse would seek our advice or guidance for them to survive on earth but they don’t they keep their utmost distance and as far away as possible as we are born a predator and they are born a pr
