Hi my name is Amanda Church and like most people visiting this page - I love animals! I have lived and learnt and worked alongside them my whole life and if you keep scrolling down you will no doubt see 'Ngala' regularly popping up into the photo posts. She is my golden hunterway mix and most recent teacher, challenge and beloved companion. I have a BSc in Zoology (U.of Oregon, Usa/Otago NZ) with

special interest in animal behaviour and rehabilitation. My primary goal is to see humans and animals co-existing peacefully alongside each other in a balanced state. I endeavour to help, support and create full rehabilitation for you, your pet and your household

I do individual training in home or out on walks. And I also have clients join me for 'in the pack' sessions. Get in touch if you have questions or queries regarding either options and let's get your pet out playing!

I’m looking forward to seeing this movie 🤗 but 💯 agree... dogs like these are not designed to just be pets... they’re working dogs and they love their job

I’ve seen others posting about the new Channing Tatum movie “Dog” so I wanted to put my thoughts out there. Every time a dog breed is featured in a film, there is a surge in ownership of that breed, without understanding of what that breed is. Malinois are serious dogs, and need a LOT of training. They are amazing, intelligent, driven dogs, but not for most homes. If you see the movie and think, “ it’d be really cool to have a dog like that,” just don’t. You’ll be in over your head, and with a Mal that can be dangerous. So appreciate them, read books about all the cool stuff they have done in war zones, but don’t think that translates to a dog that is content to sleep on the sofa 22 hours a day. As an example of this I present the photo of 2 kitted out special forces soldiers in training, and the most dangerous weapons these guys are carrying wear basket muzzles.

IMPORTANT NOTICE... I worked with a dog this week and a family heavily traumatized by an attacking incident in their home. If an attack happens to you or by your dog.... please deal with it as calmly as you can. This is not a time to panic and definitely not a time to take out your anger, frustration or aggression on an animal, nor the owners of the attacker.

Step 1. Stop the fight
Step 2. Reprimand the initiator firmly but calmly and regain control over them (book a session with me if you need help with this)
Step 3. With the attacking dog in hand but from a distance, check to see if the victim is ok
Step 4. Stay in the situation. DO NOT WALK AWAY.
This is the most important time for the dog to get the messsge that he is not allowed to attack and the victom to see that the attacker is under control so that they can release trauma.
DO NOT PICK UP OR REMOVE THE VICTOM EITHER
Allow them to walk and ‘shake off the trauma’ - this is very important if you want your dog to recover. You may also need to walk a bit yourself if you are shaken up. Walking is very therapeutic.
Walk together with the attacker if you can so that the situation can be left as peacefully as possible - do this for the sake of your dog even if you are feeling angry.

Thank you for reading
