A week ago, we welcomed 6 precious babies into the world at the Mainelanders ranch. 3 red boys, 1 cream boy and 2 brown tortie and white girls. Proud parents are Mainelanders Scout's Swansong and Tabularasa Owen. Great grandma Sunny was on hand during the birth to offer support and has been caring for mum and bubs since. Love how my cats love each other. π₯°

Steggy is growing into a beautiful young man. Big thanks to Victoria Yardley for letting me use her stunning boy, Amigo. Mum is my lovely girl, Peekaboo. Steggy's registered name is Mainelanders Doyathink-hesaurus. He's called Steggy because as the only survivor of an emergency c-section at 71 days gestation, he lost all his fur and as it grew back, it came in like the mohawk style of a Stegasaurus. He was also nearly called Renee after he spent a couple of hours down the bra of Renee, one of the vet nurses at my vet clinic after being born! π€£ He's a fab boy with an awesome temperament. π₯°
Resharing this ad as the right home didn't come along for Peekaboo at the time so she stayed a bit longer at the ranch. She's now ready to search again for the purrfect home. Please send in expressions of interest for her consideration.

"Just wanted to thank you for turning our house into a home again. Thea has settled well and by day two tackled the whole house. She has conquered the hall playground and has a new favourite spot up above A's bedroom door while we are at work. She is friendly, cuddly and playful which we put down to your rearing. Love how my girls comother so easily. Kittens are now 9 days old and so put Peekaboo in with Swanny who she hasn't seen in a few months and straight away smooched and chatted to each other then set about taking care of their combined 8 bubbas. 1 of Peekys and 7 of Swannys including wee Rex who is doing so well. π₯°
Hello Mainelanders family. I know its been a while since my last update but there's a lot to share.
3 weeks ago, Eugenie and Arrow welcomed 8 little morsels into the world, 3 girls and 5 boys. They are fat happy bubs doing really well.
Then Peekaboo was due a week later. When she got to day 70 with no positive signs of labour, my wonderful vets scanned her. We found some good heartbeats and decided to wait. Well that decision was the wrong one as we lost 6 babies with only 1 survivor on c section last Wednesday 8th November. And Peek-a-boo needed to be speyed, a huge loss to my breeding program. However Swanny and Arrow then welcomed 7 babies into the world that same evening! Her firstborn was shouting from the moment his head was out. Swanny panicked a little and so he was shot into the world at pace! Sadly he has an umbilical haematoma which hopefully will reduce in time. It wasnt until the next day that i also noticed something else different about him... a wee t rex arm! So meet Rex. Let's hope he recovers from his bellybutton issue... Talk about an emotional roller coaster for all involved.

Mainelanders is proud to announce the arrival of 4 new babies into the world. Mainelanders Scout's Promise and Maynetree Chivas Regal (imp Australia) had 6 little dots yesterday morning. Sadly 2 were too good for this world and earnt their wings but the remaining 4 are doing well. Mum is a natural even though its her first litter.

BREEDER: 1500-3500
POTENTIAL OWNER: What?? It's way too expensive!!
BREEDER: What do you think would be a reasonable price?
POTENTIAL OWNER: No more than 800. You breeders are so overpriced.
BREEDER: I am sorry you see it this way; why don't you try it yourself?
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I've never done it!
BREEDER: For FREE, I can teach you how to do it, and you will also have the knowledge to do it again.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Perfect, thank you!
BREEDER: To start, you will need a female(average minimal cost 5000 and up). Also, a male(average minimal cost 6000 and up). You will need to show them to their championship to show they meet the breed standard (Minimal 500 each show with travel & fees). You will need to do genetic & health testing on them, which averages about 1000+ per cat. Raise and provide daily care, feeding & grooming for 1,5 years. (So a minimal 150 per month)
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have that much money...
BREEDER: For 800, you can raise a litter for me and then keep one of the kitten. Obviously, you also have to pay the cost of kittening & care.
POTENTIAL OWNER: I can do that.
BREEDER: OK, so I have a female due to kitten in 2 weeks. You will need to be available 24/7 around the clock for at least 14 weeks to help with delivery and care. Possibly tube or bottle-feed kittens every 2-3 hours if the mom is low on milk the first couple weeks.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Fourteen weeks?? It's way too much time for me! I have to work.
BREEDER: You will also need the reproductive vet to do X-rays (200-500), possibly progesterone testing(75-250) & a C-section(1000-3000), and initial vet care on the kitten until old enough to be placed. Kitten vets exams and two sets of vaccines (200 and up, depending on how many kittens are in the litter)
Have on hand a scale, thermometer, latex gloves, sanitizer, absorbent tissues, scissors, hemostats, heating pad, birthing box, blankets, cleaning supplies, appropriate food with supplements for mothers, formula, medications & hand feeding supplies in case of emergency...
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have all these things!
BREEDER: For 1000 you can buy them.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Ummm .... You know, I think it might be better if I just buy a kitten.
BREEDER: Wise decision.
For us breeders there are no vacations or holidays; while you go to visit with family & friends, we are home at our cats' side caring for them. It is a no breaks commitment.
THIS IS THE REALITY
When you choose a professional, you don't only pay for the kitten but also: Tools, knowledge, experience, love, time, sacrifices, etc.
