Elusive Impact showed the ability we have seen in spades winning the Bm65 1200m at Riccarton today. While he has always been an impressive physical type, the time has been so good for him to learn his ringcraft. Congratulations Ricky and Anna, another good one for Tracy 🏆

Our November Horse of the Month, celebrating retired thoroughbreds, is Ping!

Ping Hai Star (Nom Du Jeu x Vicky) was born in New Zealand, and raced in Australia and Hong Kong, before returning to NZ to enjoy his retirement at Highden Park. Ping now has the joy of being a ‘nanny’ with fellow expat, Werther. He has looked after all kinds of horses, including the pony stallion, the kid's pony’s foal, and racehorses requiring rest and recuperation. Ping is a gentle giant with a cheeky nature who loves attention and food, often running off with the feed sacks at any chance he can get. He has a favourite past time of digging holes and making mud puddles when it rains!

Ping will again be attending Te Rapa Racing's Legends Day in February, as one of our very special Living Legends, and is an NZTR ambassador for Off The Track Thoroughbreds. Ping truly is an all round legend!

El Vencedor was all class today in the G3 Balmerino Stakes at Headquarters. He is on the up and looks like he will earn his owners and breeders Mark Freeman and David Price a few more trophies for that cabinet this season. How exciting! Congratulations Guys and well done to Marsh Racing

Bred from a free nom and a mare not being used, Libby and good friend Lisa Morton have bred themselves a smart filly in Wren, who overcame an ugly start to win the last at Tauranga today in very smart style. A huge thank you to Team Forsman for a thrilling result.

Libby has just returned from a whistle stop visit in her favourite NZ city, Christchurch. A stunning Sunday afternoon at Inglewood Stud inspecting our cracking Captivant C**t along with resident Man Of The Moment War Decree, looking better than ever! A celebratory dinner last night at King Of Snake with Ricky and Anna Rhodes where the food was photo worthy. Today was a windy but beautiful spring day with inspections of the team at Lance Robinsons barn before watching a nice group of horses trial up on the Riccarton grass, including a smart win for Ricky and Anna’s Elusive Impact. The final stop was a wee tour of Nayton Mitchell’s new facilities, a young trainer on the up and great to see him striving to succeed. Thank you to all and see you again soon 👋

Highden graduate Nest Egg ( Reliable Man x Run To The Bank ) showed today that he loves the distance by upsetting the bookies taking out the 2100 at Ellerslie.

What a wonderful, well orchestrated night at the NZTBA National Breeding Awards on Saturday. We were proud to be supporting Mark Freeman and David Price for the wonderful G1 achievements of homebred El Vencedor. It was also an honour to represent the Woodhouse Family and accept Belclares G1 award on their behalf. Incredibly proud of the success of the small breeder.

While Sam was out inspecting stallions today with Richard Cottle, Step In Time, bred by Richard and prepped by Sam for Karaka 2021, was busy showing a clean pair of heels at Rotorua, winning Race 6 by a comfortable margin. Well done Richard!
