Meet Vargus 🐱
A beautiful Maine C**n came to see us with a sudden onset of sore, irritated eyes. On examination, Dr Anna Goodman, who has a special interest in ophthalmology, discovered that both of Vargus’ lower eyelids were rolling inwards. This condition, known as entropion, caused the eyelid fur to rub against the surface of the eye (the cornea), leading to discomfort and, in Vargus’ case, painful corneal ulcers.
Entropion can be inherited or develop secondary to conditions like herpes virus conjunctivitis. Unfortunately, due to the constant irritation, Vargus’ ulcers weren’t able to heal on their own.
To relieve his discomfort and allow healing, Dr Goodman performed delicate corrective surgery. By removing a small section of skin, she was able to reposition the eyelids so they no longer turned inward. If you look closely at his post-op photo, you can see the fine suture lines as he healed.
We’re thrilled to report that Vargus is now back to his happy, affectionate self with clear, comfortable, sparkling eyes once again! 🎉
