Guy Fawkes is on Tuesday the 5th of November, and as we all know this can be a stressful time for your beloved pets.
We would suggest that you keep your cats, dogs, and bunnies inside so the noise of the fireworks is muffled. Perhaps distract them with other noises like leaving the television or radio on and hopefully this causes less stress for them.
We have a few options for you to aide in keeping your pets calmer for the days on and around this period, ranging from tablets to collars and sprays. Please feel free to pop in and we can discuss which option may suit your pet best.

We want your pets to be as chill as these pets on Guy Fawkes.

August 26th was International Dog Day.

“Because of the dog’s joyfulness our own is increased. It is no small gift”. - Mary Oliver

Many of us are lucky enough to know the joy of having a dog in our live - they really are “a man’s best friend”, they guard and protect us, they comfort us in times of need and they are fantastic companions with the capacity of unconditional love like no other.

As a special celebration to our doggie companions we have shared a few photos of the dogs that have visited our clinic recently. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the love and value that dogs bring to our daily lives.

We would love for you to share a photo of your dog to our page so we, too, can enjoy these special companions.

Importance of taking bloods

When you book your pet in for surgery, even for routine surgery, you may wonder why we ask if you would like your pet’s bloods to be taken, and is it necessary?

The reason we want to complete blood work is because this gives the vet an opportunity to spot early signs of some diseases.

Bloodwork is not harmful to your pet. We are happy to discuss with you the benefits of diagnostic testing at any time in order to allow the best outcome for your pet’s health.

Today is International Vet Day! Let’s celebrate the amazing and necessary work our vets do for our pets.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all vets on behalf of pet owners and other pet professionals. We appreciate you and all you do for our animals.

A big shout out to our vets Dr Chris McKenzie, Dr Katharina Hillmer, and Dr Mint Bhetraratana. They are a vital part of our practice, and we wouldn’t exist without them. You are the best!

Meet Jaffa. Jaffa was diagnosed with Diabetes. She comes in for frequent visits so we can complete a Blood Glucose Curve. This is a day stay whereby we can keep an eye on her glucose levels and adjust the insulin amounts given by her owner at home.

What is Diabetes? This is a disorder of the body’s ability to process glucose because of lack of insulin. Insulin is the hormone that is required to get glucose from the bloodstream into cells so it can be used.
Diabetes generally can’t be cured, however it can be successfully managed and in some cats we can get remission.

Signs to look out for that can indicate your cat or dog may have diabetes are: drinking more and urinating more often, increased hunger, weight loss, vomiting, poor coat condition. If diabetes is not treated more severe health issues can occur.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your pet, please feel free to call us for a consultation.

We’ve all heard of the saying, "It's like looking for a needle in a haystack". That was very much what this one felt like.

Chewy is a 2 year old Rottweiler that suddenly developed a limp on his front leg. The x-rays showed that there was a metal object in his shoulder.
It turns out Chewy must have rolled onto a sewing pin at home. The pin worked its way into his muscle, causing an intermittent limp.
Chewy required surgery to remove the pin. He is now back to his happy, bouncy self again.

Meet Floyd.

He came to see us as he was suffering from some skin irritation. We suggested that in this case the Royal Canin Skintopic diet may help. As you can see from the second photo, the results speak for themselves. His owner is over the moon with the difference the Skintopic food has made – “We haven’t had any issues like that since changing his diet to Royal Canin Skintopic. The skin irritation is much better. The food has 100% made a positive difference.”

If you have a pet that is suffering from skin irritation, please feel free to call us to discuss the Skintopic diet or to make an appointment for a skin consultation.

PARVO.
Unfortunately, we are seeing a big spike in Canine Parvovirus cases at the moment. This tends to happen more over the hot summer months.

If you are the owner of an adult dog or a puppy, we can’t stress enough the importance of protecting your pet from getting this horrible illness. Keeping up to date with your vaccinations is key to prevention.

Parvovirus is very contagious. It causes vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and, in many cases, death.

If you suspect that your dog has Parvovirus, or if they are unwell, please call us and let us know so we can make a booking to treat them. We will opt for a car park consultation and appreciate your cooperation in leaving your dog in the car and calling us when you arrive. The vet will then come out to your car and proceed with the consultation and treatment.
