Pups were 8 wks yesterday so had their general heath check, 1st vaccination, microchip, heart & patella check done today. All went well :) ... To be expected when Dam & Sire, and Grand parents, are fully health checked and clear.
Now I have their microchip numbers I can do their Pedigree registrations.
Thankyou to VetPlus for your support all through this process. You guys are awesome 💕
Pups will be off to their carefully vetted Furever Homes in a couple of weeks.

DO NOT BE FOOLED:
Black and Chocolate Cavaliers are starting to appear.
Despite them being promoted in certain circles as Rare, do NOT be deceived. There are only FOUR colours Internationally recognised by Pedigree Kennel Clubs: Blenheim, Tricolour, Ruby and Black & Tan. ANY deviations from the standard colours can ONLY be achieved through cross-breeding or a genetical mutation.
In other breeds colour mutations often have other health related changes with negative effects. In this case, we know there has also been an eye colour deviation, but these colours have not been generationally tested to confirm WHAT other changes have resulted.
Not only do the International pedigree authorities state 'Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault', they also CANNOT be provided with the Pedigreee documentation to prove their generational purity and ancestry.
Responsible Pedigree Breeders are doing EVERYTHING they can to ensure their pups are healthy & free of defects. This is not so easy when there are unknown potential defects from genetical mutations.
Be a responsible Pet Parent and be CAUTIOUS of unknown risk to your pup and related vet costs.

Breakfast time...
Pups are now 6 1/2wks and around 1.5kg.
They are having 4 solid meals a day.
Two dry- Royal Canin Mother & Baby Starter kibble. Followed by a bowl of Pet milk.
And two wet- which is a mix of wet RC kibble, RC Starter Moose & fresh beef mince.
Always water available.
Pups are now spending at least a couple of hours each day playing around in a large enclosure on the deck. They have soft beds & blankets, toys, sunny & shady areas.

Such a handsome and healthy boy at almost 9 years, with no signs of any heart issues or slowing down.
Hoping in 2025 we will be able to get another Whole Colour into the show ring again 🙏🤞

Over the weekend, we have just been to our last Dog Shows for the year, and what a whirlwind year it's been for Piwakawaka Ridge Cavalier Kennels. For a long time I dipped my toe in the water, going to the odd local show, not believing I was good enough to do this. But this time last year we decided to take it seriously & give it our best shot.
Thank you to Viewlands Cavaliers, for trusting us with your handsome Viewlands Walking Moose and your mentoring. Thank you to the experienced show people who were willing to share their wisdom & encouragement. Thank you for the show people willing to give their time to help us do show training.

Over the year we have achieved 18 Breed Challenge Certificates.
Piwakawaka Wyndsoar- 9 Best Neuter Dog of Breed
Viewlands Walking Moose- 5 Best Dog of Breed CC's
Piwakawaka Aurora Memphis - 3 Best Bitch of Breed CC's
Piwakawaka Icarus Shelbysta - 1 Best Dog of Breed CC

We have also picked up numerous Toy Group Wins in: Baby Puppy of Group, Puppy of Group, Junior of Group , Intermediate of Grouo and NZ Bred of Group.
For a Breed which always has multiple entries, this is a big achievement.
I take my hat off to my beautiful Cavaliers and to my amazing husband, 2IC handler, chauffer and site set up person - you hold all the pieces together ❤️
Thankyou also to our daughter who holds the fort at home while we are showing.

Finally somebody said it out loud.
NO cross-breeds are NOT healthier than purebred.
