Well we just had a HUGE weekend with 5 shows- two Cavalier Specialty shows and three toy shows.
We took four dogs. The Specialty Show judges were
Greg Browne - Eireannmada Cavaliers, Victoria, Aust
Derrick Seow - Riccaval Cavaliers, Malaysia

Viewlands Walking Moose was Best Intermediate Dog of Breed in each show. He also received the Best Parti Colour sash.
Piwakawaka Icarus Shelbysta was Best Puppy Dog of Breed in each show.
Piwakawaka Wyndsoar received a trophy from the Tiki
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club for reaching Neuter Champion status recently.
Piwakawaka Aurora Memphis, our pretty girl dances to hed own tune so unfortunately, had no wins, just lots of personality and excitement at seeing everyone.

In 2020 our NZN Champion Piwakawaka Wyndsoar, sired his one and only litter.
From that litter we kept one pup, our Piwakawaka Sweet Primrose.
Last month, at 4 years old, our beautiful Primrose, had her first litter, to carry on our Windy's line.
Prim is doing an amazing job being a mum. Pups are now 4 weeks old and chubby little bubbies at 1.3kg

I finally got my act together and sent Windy's Challenge Certificates for Best Neuter Dog of Breed into DOGSNZ (NZKennel Club).
His Champion application has been accepted & we received his Certificate in the post.

It's been a busy few weeks at Piwakawaka Ridge.
Our two pups girl Aurora Memphis & boy Icarus Shelbysta have been jostling for position of Best Pup of Breed in a few shows, each taking their turn. Then Cary (Icarus) took out the Best Pup of the Toy Group spot. We were all absolutely thrilled.
A couple of weeks ago our very handsome Viewlands Walking Moose got another two Best Dog of Breed Challenge Certificates and a Best of Breed, taking him 1/2 way towards being a Champion.
Then in the weekend we had a happy & sad moment as our beautiful little Pup Melody headed off to her Furever Family. I know she will be loved to bits & spoilt rotten. We are looking forward to hearing all about her adventures.
We have also had one of our previous pups come and stay for a week while her family are away. Its been lively having her back 💕 The beautiful Daisy goes home next weekend.

This popped up on my personal FB as a memory from five years ago. I think it was my 2nd ever show/ribbon parade. Happy & sad memories.

If i remember correctly, pups Florence (B&T) & Wyndsoar(Ruby) from our first Piwakawaka litter were in the Puppy category and Blossom ( our first Tri) and Cinnamon (our first Blenheim) were Baby Puppy.

Unfortunately a couple of years later we lost our beautiful wee Cinnamon when she was attacked by a larger dog on a walk. Our vet tried for 5 hours to save her, but was unable to.

Tribute To A Ruby Princess:

This is a tribute to our Momma Bear Ariel.
Named after that other Red Head Princess, Ariel came to live with us mid 2017 as our Foundation bitch & stole our hearts. Although I had previously had a Cavalier as a pet, having no knowledge of showing, little knowledge of breeding & no mentor, I embarked on the journey towards building Piwakawak Ridge pedigree Cavalier kennel- foolishly thinking it would be easy.
I started joining clubs, health testing- DNA for EF, CC/DE and DM, along with specialist eye certs, heart and patella checks.
Like a true princess Ariel took each day in her stride, and over the years has been the most attentive and playful mum of 15 pups. We kept a Black & Tan bitch (Florence) & a Ruby boy (Wyndsoar) from her first litter. Wyndsoar became our first DOGSNZ (NZ Kennel Club) Champion (neutered).
On 27 February 2024, her final litter of one female pup, was born by cesarean. We had hoped for a Ruby to carry on our whole colour lines, but alas that was not to be for us. Ariel's final pup is a beautiful, healthy Blenheim girl called Misty Melody of Piwakawaka. 'Misty' to acknowledge our teary eyes with the last of a legacy, and Melody, as that other Redhead Princess also had a daughter named Melody 😉
We still have our B&T Florence and we hope one day we can bring the whole colours back to our kennel. In the meantime, we salute our beautiful Red Head Matriarch Ariel and look forward to hearing of all the cuddles and adventures that our Princess in Waiting, Misty Melody, will have when she is old enough to venture out into the wide world with her new family and fly the Piwakawaka flag for her mother's legacy.

Our boys have been very busy over the start of the year. Congratulations to:

Windy has earned enough Challenge Certificates to be recognized as a (neuter) Champion (pending DOGSNZ approval)
Moose has started his journey
Cary is consistently winning his class (although occasionally knocked out by his sister Piwakawaka Aurora Memphis) and he has taken Baby Puppy in the Toy Group.
