With our awesome summer temperatures in the Bay of Plenty, it’s essential to keep our pets safe from heatstroke. Watch for signs like excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or disorientation.
Prevention Tips:
🐾Keep fresh water and shade available.
🐾Limit exercise during peak heat.
🐾Never leave pets in hot cars.
🐾If you suspect heatstroke, contact your vet immediately!

🐾Reducing stress in patients is important to us🐾
We all know that visiting the vet can be a stressful experience for our furry friends, but there are always ways to make it a more pleasant one! Zac is a great example of the lengths our team go to, to ensure your pets emotional wellbeing while in our clinic.

Zac doesn't cope well without his people or his support dog Autumn, but today he needed to stay in hospital without them all 😲🥺. Zak lapped up every moment of his VIP treatment and Christmas attire in our Practice Managers office, his only complaint was she wouldn't give him any snacks even though he was the best dog ever and starving cause his dad forgot to give him breakfast😉.

Here are Zac's other tips for reducing stress in dogs during vet visits:
🐾Familiarization Visits: Take your dog to the vet clinic for casual visits where no procedures are done. This helps them get used to the environment without associating it with stress.
🐾Positive Reinforcement: Reward your dog with treats, praise, and affection during and after vet visits. This positive reinforcement can help them feel more comfortable.
🐾 Calming Products: Consider using calming products such as pheromone sprays, calming collars, or anxiety wraps. These can help soothe your dog and reduce their anxiety levels.
🐾Bring Comfort Items: Bring along your dog's favourite blanket, toy or confident friend. Familiar scents and objects can provide a sense of security.
🐾Stay Calm: Dogs often pick up on their owner's emotions. Staying calm and relaxed can help your dog feel more at ease.
🐾Professional Training: Work with a professional trainer to desensitise your dog to vet visits. This can be especially helpful for dogs with severe anxiety.
