I saw a post recently on a group asking for recommendations for a detangler for the mane and tail. Some of the recommendations, I was absolutely horrified! A couple of the scary suggestions, silicone tyre spray, furniture polish and WD40!! Good lord, would you put this stuff on your head or hair? Why on earth would you put it anywhere near your horse? I was thinking to myself some of these must be a joke but a number of people liked these comments and also posted the same recommendations so I guess not!
These products are damaging to hair, are not designed to be used on hair or skin and are just plain harmful. Cheap seemed to be the reason given for using some. Not cheap to have to deal with skin issues on your horse. Not cheap to have to buy a false tail or false plaits cos your horse's mane or tail falls out.
If you want your horse to have a healthy mane and tail, use a product that is specifically designed for a horse's mane and tail. These will look after the hair, improve the quality and condition and not harm your horse.
Luckily on this particular post the overwhelming recommendation was for the brilliant Ecohorse products so hopefully that is what the person chose.
If you wouldn't use it on yourself, don't put it near your horse.

Wash light rugs (no fill or cotton sheets), saddle cloths, boots, bandages, jodhpurs and other horse gear without clogging up your washing machine with horse hair.
The washbag acts as a filtration system - retaining all horse hair inside the bag during the wash cycle while allowing a free flow of water through the bag to clean your items. The washbag also helps prevent buckle damage to your machine.
It can also be used to wash dog or cat bedding, pet towels, collars and toys.
After washing, simply turn the washbag inside, shake out any trapped hair and hang it on the clothes line to dry. When not in use, the washbag is handy for storing your horse laundry until ready for washing.
