🩸 🐕 blood donors wanted 🐩 🩸

We are looking to update our 2024 list of available dog blood donors.

For your dog to be a blood donor, they must meet certain criteria. Your dog’s welfare is always our priority and so for them to become a lifesaver, they must be:

*Fit and healthy
*Between one and eight years old
*Weigh more than 25kg
*Have a good temperament
*Have never travelled outside of NZ
*Vaccinated
*Not on any medication

They would be contacted at the time the blood is needed and if not available the next dog owner on the list would be called.

Blood donations are used only in life threatening emergencies, we would only collect from your dog once per year if required at all.

If you would like your dog to be considered to be a donor - please call the clinic and speak to Tania. 07 884 9522 🐾 ❤️

In response to a number of Facebook posts regarding local afterhours veterinary care…

We would like to thank the author post on the Matamata page for their very kind words about us. We feel that it needs to be clarified that Te Aroha Veterinary Services is NOT an afterhours clinic.
We do provide an emergency afterhours service for OUR CLIENTS and will endeavor to do so whilst we have enough vets on the roster. However, we are not obliged to see the animals of non-clients.
Afterhours services are extremely hard on vets and their families, any decision to stop providing this service is not taken lightly. An unfortunate position that many local practices have found themselves in. It has absolutely nothing to do with ‘not being bothered’ or ‘not caring’. There is a critical shortage of vets in NZ which means most clinics are running short staffed.
Being a vet is a physically and mentally demanding profession, made worse by staff shortages. The su***de rate amongst veterinarians is 4 times higher than ANY OTHER profession. Let that sink in…
It is likely that when local medical centers stopped providing afterhours care that there would have been similar sentiments and frustrations regarding having to travel to seek attention. It is now considered normal and accepted.
Please put yourself in the vet clinics shoes before criticising them for not providing afterhours. Proudly our staff go above and beyond for our clients and their animals, in hours and out of hours. We will continue our afterhours service for OUR CLIENTS.

☠️ ⚠️ Parvo virus is around ⚠️ ☠️

Are your dogs are up to date with vaccines?

Please call us to book an appointment if your dog has not been vaccinated in last 12 months or if you have a puppy over 6 weeks old that hasn’t yet received a vaccine.

Parvo virus is often fatal to dogs, we have seen an increased number over the last week. These cases break our hearts 💔

Good morning everyone,

We have had a few dogs this morning run past the clinic at different times on a mission into the wetlands which we are unable to catch. If you notice your dog missing, they may be there on an adventure 🐶 🐶 🐶

It is so nice to have Steven back to his normal self at school today. We are so fortunate to have people within our school community that recognise the impact animals can have on not only the tamariki in our kura but also the staff as well!

We would like to thank Margaret and Robbie from Te Aroha Veterinary Services for seeing Steven so quickly yesterday and sorting him out with his ailments - he is like a totally different cat today and back to scrounging food and cuddles in the staffroom.

We are so lucky that Steven chooses to spend time in our school and does a good job at protecting it while we are not here. He puts a lot of smiles on faces and is great at cuddling the kids too!
