Today we welcomed Valma (LA CRIQUE) back into work here in our stables in Te Awamutu 😍

After her win in the $500,000 Magic Millions National Classic at Eagle Farm in June, she enjoyed a well deserved break in the Queensland Sun. ☀️☀️

Before returning to NZ she had been in light work in Queensland. We will aim to have her back racing mid-late November 🐎💥

Valma has also been recognised as a nominee in the Champion Sprinter/Miler category at the LOVERACING.NZ NZTR Thoroughbred Horse of the Year Awards 2023/2024 this Sunday 🤩👏🏻

We are extremely proud of her and can’t wait to see what she can do this season!

Congratulations to all of her connections!

We hope it’s the start of many more for our stable this 2024/2025 racing season 💥

SATURDAY RACE PREVIEW - TE RAPA

We have 2x on the truck today to Te Rapa where there is a Heavy10 surface.

RACE 5;

MIDNIGHT SCANDAL (pictured) - 🥇WINNER🥇Consistent performer who is lightly race left-handed. She has been freshened a bit for this run to give her another go in this direction. She will be a good place chance in a tidy field.

MUSIGNY LASS - She has been disappointing to date after being off the racing scene for a long time. Plan is to try riding her back today with no pressure, would like to see her running home down the straight.

Good luck to all connections! 🐎

Today marks the beginning of the new 2024/2025 Racing Season & we would like to take a moment to look back on our success during last season.

The 2023/2024 season culminated in 10x wins in NZ plus 1x win across the ditch at Eagle Farm.

Our highlight came from stable star La Crique picking up her second Group 1 in the Trackside Otaki-Maori WFA Classic in February. She then went on to get her first Trans-Tasman success at Eagle Farm in the $500,000 Magic Millions National Classic (1600m).

We sold 4x horses within the season, including promising 4yr old Angland (Ace High x Markova) who has had 2x wins out of 3 runs for Trainers Price/Kent. He is certainly one to keep an eye on moving forward.

We would like to thank our Owners and connections for their support over last season and look forward to an exciting season ahead! We have some exciting young horses who have performed well in trials looking to make their debut this spring, as well as some promising lightly tried horses.

Bring on the the 2024/2025 Season!

🐎🎉

CORNELIA continues to impress, taking out the 3YO SW+P at Te Rapa on Saturday. Brining her record to 2 wins and 2 placings from 4 starts!

MIDNIGHT SCANDAL also went around in a Benchmark 75 with a strong run. Stepping up in grade following a last start win, she ran on well into 3rd on a testing track.

Congratulations to all connections!

After our recent successful trip with La Crique to Brisbane we would like to take the opportunity, in conjunction with John and Jan Cassin, to acknowledge the many people that made this trip a success!

A huge amount of planning goes in to an exercise like this and we were fortunate to be able to call of the services of many professionals, in their own fields, to assist with our plans.

Special thanks to Taplin Racing Stables Sunshine Coast for providing stabling and organising farrier, vet and chiropractic services. You were hugely supportive and no request was a problem, going above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.

Thanks to Kelly Jackson from Dunstan Horsefeeds for organising delivery of Dunstan Speed Feed.

Thanks to Kylie Unsworth from BetaVet NZ for supplying their amazing products in Betavet Prepare, and BetaVet Regumare.

Thankyou also to Tony Moore from Poseidon Equine for arranging the delivery of Digestive RP.

And to Trudy Thornton who was extremely generous in offering her services to ride La Criques gallops.

Thanks to Jake Barham, our farrier, who made it even possible to get her there in the first place and to Dave Keenan and his team, at Matamata Veterinary Services - Equine, who keep La Crique on the road from preparation to preparation.

Quite obviously Sarah Davis did an awesome job of taking excellent care of La Crique throughout her stay. A hugely important role that isn't without stress!

The entire team at home......Jaimee, Saph, Amy, Sam, Daniel and Bhanwar......did an awesome job in keeping the wheels turning while we were gone. Even managing to produce their own winner in Trouvaille while we were away!

La Crique now goes for a Queensland holiday and we look forward to working with all of you again during her next preparation.

Thankyou everyone!

Kiwi mare La Crique helped to honour a dying man's final wish as emotions overflowed at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

AUSTRALIA SATURDAY PREVIEW

La Crique - Eagle Farm, Race 7 - 5:13pm

La Crique is set to start her Australian campaign tomorrow on Queensland Oaks day in a WFA Fillies + Mares 1600m.
With top jockey James Mcdonald on the team are hopeful for a strong run and to show them what the kiwis are made of!

Valma as we know her, departed the stable 2 weeks ago set for Brisbane and has settled in well, with great reports making there way back home. She's even learnt how to somewhat enjoy a carrot!

We wish the best to all connections and we know she will make us proud!

TROUVAILLE broke maiden ranks with a gutsy win at Te Aroha earlier in the week.
Piloted by Opie Bosson he was given a beautiful ride on a testing track.
Hitting the front half way up the straight, with challengers coming from all sides he managed to lift and fight them off.
Congratulations to all connections! Hopefully it's the first win of many.

LA CRIQUE - DUAL GROUP 1 WINNER

We may have flown slightly under the radar leading into Saturdays Group 1 WFA Classic at Ōtaki, but the spotlight is definitely on her now.
A beautiful ride by Matt Cameron (only his first sit on her,) allowed her to jump well before settling midfield on the rail. Finding better ground in the centre of the field coming into the straight and bursting away from the pack.

It is known that we have been battling with different issues over the past 12 months and we are very grateful for the team we have supporting us. Matamata Veterinary Services - Equine Equine Muscle Therapy: Pete Neal and Ethan Dalley, thankyou for all your efforts in making sure she is always feeling her best and Jake Barham for the wonderful work looking after her feet and making sure she’s ready for the big days like these.

We’re thrilled for all connections and trust you celebrated well, hopefully there is plenty more to come!

From our team to yours Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

Santa and Rudolph look slightly different here although we’re happy to say they managed to find us over here in Te Awamutu.

We hope you all enjoy the festive season and are ready to tune in to some racing while you’re in holiday mode.

We have 6 horses stepping out over five meetings in the coming week, and we’re excited to see what they can produce. Especially three of our 3yo’s that will be on debut, all following smart trials previously in their preps.
ASTERIAL is racing second up after a smart third at Tauranga 15/12, with IROQUIOS FALLS returning to the races following a nice trial in a strong field at Waipa 5/12.
MIDNIGHT SCANDAL is hoping to continue that winning feeling as she steps out again following a good win at Tauranga on the 15/12.

27/12 @ New Plymouth – IROQUIOS FALLS
30/12 @ Taupo – ASTERIAL & CORNELIA (Debut)
1/01 @ Pukekohe - MIDNIGHT SCANDAL
2/01 @ Tauranga – FAREWELL TO EIRE (Debut)
3/01 @ Te Aroha – TROUVAILLE (Debut)

Tauranga Recap - 15/12

MIDNIGHT SCANDAL broke through maiden ranks scoring her first win at Tauranga on Friday. Guided by a great ride by Courtney Barnes, she was able to jump well and score a early position on speed. To see for yourself find the video below :)
Congratulations to connections, we hope it's the first of many.

ASTERIAL also stepped out at Tauranga with a very honest run fresh up in the R65 1600m. Ridden by Jess Allen, she settled midfield and was strong to the line, running on for third.
