EDIT: Owner has been located, thank you everyone.
Does anyone recognize this sweet lady?
She is a 13-year-old female medium hair tortoiseshell, who was found by a member of the public this morning, and we are looking to get in touch with her family.
We are asking if the owners could give us a call, or pop into Petfirst Te Awamutu, or if anyone knows where she may belong, to reach out to our team.
Friendly reminder to check your microchip details are up to date, so if your loved one goes walk abouts, we can get them home to you.

It sounds like there has potentially been an increase in cases of parvo virus in the Waipa area. We have not been able to confirm this increase in cases but felt it was a good idea to share some important information about Parvo virus:

Understanding Parvovirus - Highly Contagious:
Parvo is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It spreads through contaminated faeces and can survive in the environment for extended periods. Severe Symptoms include vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, lethargy, and dehydration. It can lead to rapid deterioration and death, especially in young puppies.

Prevention is Key:
o Vaccination is the most effective way to protect your dog from parvovirus.
o Proper hygiene and avoiding contact with potentially contaminated areas are also crucial.

Owner Responsibility - Vaccinations:
o Ensure your puppy receives the complete series of parvovirus vaccinations.
o Adult dogs require regular booster shots to maintain immunity.

Hygiene:
o Practice good hygiene, especially when cleaning up after your dog.
o Disinfect contaminated areas with appropriate cleaning solutions.

Socialization:
o While socialization is vital, it's essential to do it safely.
o Avoid taking unvaccinated puppies to high-risk areas like dog parks or public spaces where unvaccinated dogs may have been.
o Socialize puppies with known, fully vaccinated dogs.

Early Detection:
o Be aware of the symptoms of parvovirus and seek veterinary care immediately if you suspect your dog may be infected.

Important Considerations:
• No dog breed is immune to parvovirus.
• Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are most vulnerable.
• Treatment for parvovirus can be expensive and intensive.

In essence, prevention is the key to prevent parvo virus. Vaccinating your puppy is important while at the same time socializing your puppy in a safe environment. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to give us a call 07 872 0240, otherwise you can text 3489 to get in contact with us digitally.
