Project Kitten 😸

These little cuties were abandoned just before Christmas πŸ₯²

Dr Katie's kids have been looking after these little guys (all boys) and learning about how to treat for fleas and worms, how much kittens need to eat and how to care for kittens.

Three kittens will soon be ready to go to new homes in 2025. Their adoption fee will cover the cost of their desexing and first vaccination, health check and microchip.

They have all been treated for fleas and wormed. If you are interested please email the clinic only to express interest: [email protected]

We had a bit of a mad rush on Friday for repeat medications and various other things

Please understand that we need 24 hours to allow time to organise repeat scripts, calculate medications and get them ready to collect (similar to a human pharmacy). Our nurses have been working hard to contact patients on regular medications and check you have enough over the Christmas and New Year Period.

If you are needing repeat medications, flea treatment, food etc you can contact us in a couple of ways:

Leave a voice message on our phoneline over the weekend (Press 2 for repeat medications)

Send us an email with what you need and we will get it ready to collect (everyone loves Click and Collect?): [email protected]

Give us a phone on Monday to organise what you need. We are open until 3pm on Tuesday 24th to allow any last minute collections

Do you know what this little creature is?

Yep, this is a very large and engorged TICK that was found during a routine check up in a dog's ear πŸ‘‚ 😳

Ticks also quite like to nibble humans too...These blood sucking parasites are not a Christmas present that you want to find!

Although we often talk about keeping our pets current with flea and worm treatment, it's also important to ensure they are treated for TICKS.

Fun fact: ticks have 8 legs and are part of the arachnid family (yes they are part of the spider family)

If you need help to select the correct flea/tick/worm product please come into the clinic to get some help and advice from one of our vet nurses

Please see our Christmas Opening Hours below

We'd recommend avoiding the last minute rush and booking any appointments in advance: 07 870 2696

If you're needing repeat prescriptions, food or flea products over the holiday period please give us a call to organize this: 07 870 2696

Tis' the season to... get Grass Seeds!

This little girl is our "Star Patient" of the week for her amazing bravery.

She unfortunately inhaled a grass seed whilst at the beach. Grass seeds have a way of getting into all sorts of places...ouch! This caused non stop sneezing and lots of irritation.

Thankfully our amazing vet team were able to retrieve the grass seed from the very back of her nose and fix the problem

Be mindful and on the look out for grass seeds as they are notorious at this time of year and can get into ears, eyes, paws and go under the skin anywhere and cause really nasty infections.

Worried about a potential grass seed issue, we are here to help with removal or for any concerns: 07 870 2696

Exciting news, we have upgraded our phone system!

Dr Katie is the new voice over lady on the phone πŸ˜„

Thanks for your patience today whilst we worked across 2 systems and 3 phones.

We have tried to streamline our phones to allow you to press 1 for an appointment and 2 for repeat prescriptions or to have a chat about any concerns: 07 870 2696

Remember to leave us a message if you can't get through as these are checked regularly and calls returned.

The sad but harsh reality of cat fluπŸ˜”

This poor little kitten was found sitting alone in the rain, shivering and cold and was brought into the clinic to see one of the vets.

Unfortunately one of its eye's had already burst because of cat flu and the other eye was heading in the same direction, meaning this kitten was blind. The kitten was struggling to breath, was malnourished and had fleas.

This is the sad reality for many litters of kittens born in the local area without owners.

If you do have a cat we'd strongly recommend getting them desexed as soon as they reach 1kg to prevent unwanted litters of kittens.

If your cat isn't current with their vaccinations we'd recommend doing this to protect them against these nasty diseases. Cat flu and FIV are circulating in the local area, so it's important to keep your cat protected and healthy through vaccination

Meet our newest veterinarian Dr Fiona Walkinton who has joined the 3 Stone team

We are excited to welcome Dr Fiona to the team as a companion animal vet. Dr Fiona is an experienced local veterinarian and enjoys all aspects of looking after and helping our small animal patients. You will find Dr Fiona working in clinic Tuesday- Friday.

Make sure to say hello to Dr Fiona πŸ‘‹

Purchase Any Bravecto product between 20th November and 19th December and you could be taking this home for Christmas!!!

Remember to get pets ready for Christmas by ensuring vaccinations are up to date if you are heading away. We see a lot of kennel cough over the Christmas period due to pets moving around.

How gorgeous are these little kittens that were in for a health check and first vaccination ❀️

Unfortunately we have been seeing quite a lot of cat flu in unvaccinated animals. For little kittens cat flu can have devastating effects including loss of πŸ‘€ eye(s) to death...

Make sure to schedule your pet for their health check and vaccination. If you are needing some cattery accomodation over the Christmas period talk to our nurses as we've had a couple of cancellations: 07 870 2696

Dr Katie received some beautiful flowers from her Mum in Scotland and also from the dog "Mac" and "Ruby" the cat! How amazing to have a fantastic local shop like The Birdcage - Home Jewellery Gifts that can make such beautiful arrangements and even cater for people ordering from overseas! Great reason to shop local πŸ‘Œ πŸ‘ ❀️

Do you also send presents and cards from the pets?

Mac and Ruby benefited from a health check and bloods whilst Dr Katie was in the UK.

Fun fact, Dr Katie is registered as a vet in both the UK and also NZ. Dr Katie is also a registered specialist cow vet, so when she's not in clinic you'll find her on farm πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„

Our Story

3 Stone Vets is a family owned and operated veterinary business. The business was founded to service our own dairy farming operation in 2013 and has successfully grown to look after other local Waikato farmers. In 2016 we opened physical premises at 372 Bond Road, Te Awamutu to cater for our small animal clients.

In 2019 the clinic was recognised as a BestPractice Clinic by the New Zealand Veterinary Association, one of only a few number of clinics in New Zealand. You can be sure to receive quality care and excellence at an accredited clinic.

We are a community focused, family business which actively helps local charities including Hurrah, Paws and New Lives Animal Rescue. We cater for both small animals and farm animals with experienced and highly trained veterinary staff. We believe in going the extra mile for our clients. We also provide home visits for pets unable to come to the vets. 3 Stone Vets is a success story; an expanding and progressive practice with a very proud farming history and strong local roots. 3 Stone Vets style of veterinary treatment will suit your animal (large or small) perfectly!
