Tis' the season to... get Grass Seeds!

This little girl is our "Star Patient" of the week for her amazing bravery.

She unfortunately inhaled a grass seed whilst at the beach. Grass seeds have a way of getting into all sorts of places...ouch! This caused non stop sneezing and lots of irritation.

Thankfully our amazing vet team were able to retrieve the grass seed from the very back of her nose and fix the problem

Be mindful and on the look out for grass seeds as they are notorious at this time of year and can get into ears, eyes, paws and go under the skin anywhere and cause really nasty infections.

The sad but harsh reality of cat flu😔

This poor little kitten was found sitting alone in the rain, shivering and cold and was brought into the clinic to see one of the vets.

Unfortunately one of its eye's had already burst because of cat flu and the other eye was heading in the same direction, meaning this kitten was blind. The kitten was struggling to breath, was malnourished and had fleas.

This is the sad reality for many litters of kittens born in the local area without owners.

If you do have a cat we'd strongly recommend getting them desexed as soon as they reach 1kg to prevent unwanted litters of kittens.

If your cat isn't current with their vaccinations we'd recommend doing this to protect them against these nasty diseases. Cat flu and FIV are circulating in the local area, so it's important to keep your cat protected and healthy through vaccination

We are excited to welcome Dr Fiona to the team as a companion animal vet. Dr Fiona is an experienced local veterinarian and enjoys all aspects of looking after and helping our small animal patients. You will find Dr Fiona working in clinic Tuesday- Friday.

How gorgeous are these little kittens that were in for a health check and first vaccination ❤️

Unfortunately we have been seeing quite a lot of cat flu in unvaccinated animals. For little kittens cat flu can have devastating effects including loss of 👀 eye(s) to death...

How cute are these 2 little brothers 😍

These puppies visited with their siblings for first puppy vaccinations against Parvovirus, Hepatitis and Distemper.

Dr Katie received some beautiful flowers from her Mum in Scotland and also from the dog "Mac" and "Ruby" the cat! How amazing to have a fantastic local shop like The Birdcage - Home Jewellery Gifts that can make such beautiful arrangements and even cater for people ordering from overseas! Great reason to shop local 👌 👍 ❤️

Mac and Ruby benefited from a health check and bloods whilst Dr Katie was in the UK.

Fun fact, Dr Katie is registered as a vet in both the UK and also NZ. Dr Katie is also a registered specialist cow vet, so when she's not in clinic you'll find her on farm 🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄
