Today Jane and Melo brought me this beautiful bunch of flowers to say “Thank you” 🥰

During Melo’s last groom I noticed one of her mammary glands had formed a hard pebble sized lump.
I groom Melo every 8 weeks and this was the first time I had felt this lump so knew whatever it was, it was growing fast and needs a check by the vet.
Jane took her in and the call was made to remove the lump and send away for a biopsy. 3 weeks later the results came back and poor Melo had a very aggressive form of cancer (grade 3 the worse you can have) and they had managed to get clear margins when they removed the lump meaning they got it all, and luckily for Melo and her family it was caught without further spread.

She’s not out of the woods completely, but for now she is cancer free and her family now know what they are looking for and will be able to identify and eliminate quickly.

I am so glad I was able to help and inform Melo’s family that I had found a suspicious lump. While your furry family member is here they not only get a pamper but they also get a full body check and I will always endeavour to find and make you aware of anything new or untoward that may be lurking under all that fluff 🖤🖤

Tis the season for…?

Yep you guessed it! Barley grasses

Today was the first of the season for me but I can guarantee they won’t be the last ones I see this summer.

If your dog is running through dry long grass please make sure you check their armpits, between toes and paw pads and their ears too. These don’t muck around at entering through the skin and disappearing, and if you can catch them before they start penetrating the skin it’ll be much better for your dog and wallet than an anaesthetic to have them surgically removed.

It’s as simple as running your hands over your dog when you’re cuddled on the couch watching TV, if you find a suspicious lump that you think could be harbouring a barley grass make sure you ring your vet to make a consult to get checked.

Meet Ruby,

She moved here from Australia and her owner was finding it tricky to find a groomer to accommodate her as Ruby was very fearful. At her grooming appointments in Australia she was being heavily sedated before being groomed and would still need to wear a muzzle.

When she first came to me, she had a small sedative that helped her to relax and she was adamant that I was not to go anywhere near her head and face.

Fast forward 3 years and she now comes without any sedative, she doesn’t have to wear a muzzle and she happily allows me to clip her head and face with no issues at all.

Is her groom perfect? No, but she only comes every 6 months for a full clip back as the grooming process still isn’t her favourite pastime, so it’s about comfort for her.

What a success story ❤️

Canine cough is clearly out in the environment here in Timaru.

Be mindful of your young puppies who are yet to have their full immunity from all of their vaccines, and those elderly or already immuno-compromised pets.

Call your vet if you notice any hacking or coughing from your dog.

Unfortunately one of my own dogs has contracted Canine Cough formerly known as Kennel Cough.

While he is resting and recovering I have made the decision to continue to groom, however rest assured that I am doing everything I possibly can to avoid transmission of the virus to your dogs.

I will disinfect the small path and gateway closest to the alleyway every morning and will ensure that my dogs will not cross over that threshold. The salon has also had a top to bottom clean and has been thoroughly disinfected. If you have a small dog I suggest as an extra measure to carry your dog into the salon.

Like most viruses vaccines can only do so much, so there is still a risk of contracting Canine Cough but I wouldn’t say there was more of a risk than that when out on your walks.

Please ensure your dog is up to date with their vaccines.

If you wish to reschedule your dogs groom then please just ask, I don’t mind, however my book is quite full but I will do my best to accomodate this rather unfortunate event.
