Group III winner ready to resume

By Jamie Searle

Specialty, a winner of the Group III Barneswood Farm Stakes and Listed Dunedin Guineas, will return to racing at Riccarton on August 31.

He will race at the meeting with stablemate, Rhonda Wood, who is also on the comeback trail.

Specialty's only start last season saw him finish fifth in an open 1000m at the corresponding Riccarton meeting. He will be nominated for the same race on August 31.

Rhonda Wood ran third in a rating 75 1200m at the 2023 New Zealand Cup meeting in her last start. A start in the same grade and over the same distance is planned for her on August 31.

"They had lower tendon issues," owner-trainer Bruce Tapper said of Specialty (three wins) and Rhonda Wood (four wins).

Both are training well.

Natural Momentum, a last-start winner for the stable at Oamaru on July 21, will join Rhonda Wood in the rating 75 at Riccarton.

Among the maidens in the Tapper stable is Thunderfist who easily won over 1000m at the Ashburton trials on Tuesday.

The unraced 4-year-old gelding, by Jon Snow, went shin sore twice last season.
