👉 OUTSIDE DOGS/KENNELS

- Elevated off the ground
- Out of the southerly wind and rain
- Use batts to insulate
- Reduce the size of the kennel opening, nail a sack or similar to give protection from drafts and frosts
- Extra roofing, utilize existing buildings for shelter
- Dry the dogs off before they go into their kennels
- Bedding - use wool sack beds/straw. Check daily to ensure the bedding is dry.
Keep the bedding parasite free - use flea/worm treatments
- Use jackets, provide quality food/give them extra over winter
- Ensure they have the ability to toilet away from sleeping/eating areas
- Scrub out those water bowls regularly. Refresh water daily/break the ice.

🥶 Exposed stand alone kennels, drums/barrels, plastic kennels are totally inadequate.

⚠️ Arthritis & untreated injuries are painful - get your dogs vet checked and treated. Dogs hide pain very well. Pain can cause changes in behaviour. They may struggle to do everyday activities. Give them the quality of life they deserve.

✖️ Accidental/unwanted litters? Stop the Cycle / Spay Neuter. Ask for help.

👉 Don't forget about the other animals kept outside, especially those in cages, they all need warm, dry shelter and a life worth living. Would you swap places? 😔

❤️ OWNERS FOUND

This wee guy has been bought into us this evening

He has been hanging around the Mitre 10 drive through over the last few days and bought in by a worried member of the public

He is an adult neutered male, with no microchip. He is very skinny so may have been missing a while.

Please contact us on 03) 7464144 if you think he may belong to you.

We want to urge all our clients to check the vaccination status of your dogs ASAP!

There is currently a nationwide parvovirus outbreak, with cases confirmed as close as Ashburton.

Parvovirus is a severe and potentially life threatening illness, causing lethargy, severe vomiting, and bloody diarrhoea.

Parvovirus is highly contagious and can spread through the faeces of infected dogs, contaminating surfaces such as bedding, cages, the ground, and even people’s clothing and footwear.

‼️ Key Points to Know:
* Parvo can survive in the environment for up to a year, meaning unvaccinated dogs are constantly at risk.
* Once a dog contracts parvo, it's too late to vaccinate to prevent the disease.
* If your dog is not fully vaccinated, they are at high risk, especially if they are exposed to environments where parvo has been present.

💉 Vaccination is the ONLY effective protection for your dog. Puppies need a series of vaccinations, while adult dogs need regular boosters to stay protected.

Please don’t wait – if you’re unsure about your dog’s vaccination status or need to book a booster, get in touch with us today. A simple check could save your dog’s life.

SNIP ‘N’ CHIP COMES TO THE SOUTH ISLAND! 🙌🐱

We are excited to be launching a new Snip ‘n’ Chip campaign for cat owners in Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, Gore, Balclutha, Alexandra, Wanaka and surrounding areas.

From 26 March 2025 we are working with local participating veterinary clinics to offer this service to cat owners who are struggling with the cost of desexing and microchipping. Vouchers help those in need get their cat desexed and microchipped for $30.

Bookings are now OPEN! 👉 Click the link in the comment section to check if vouchers are available in your area and register for your Snip ‘n’ Chip voucher.

If you know someone who needs help with the online system, you can help by completing the registration with them. Thank you so much to our participating vet clinics for helping us to make this important campaign possible.

PLEASE REMEMBER - a limited number of vouchers are available to help those who require financial assistance. Please, only get a voucher if you need one and intend to use it. In the past, we have noticed some vouchers were never used, or bookings were made with vet clinics and never attended 💔 When this happens, it prevents someone else from using the voucher who might really need it.

If you live in Invercargill and Snip 'n' Chip vouchers are not available in your area, please contact our Invercargill Centre for local advice or assistance.

For more information, check out our website!
