Due to feedback we have made some improvements to our system and have been rolling out a smaller 6mm pellet over the last few weeks. This is still the same great recipe that meets all of your rabbit and guinea pig needs, but now in a smaller more palatable pellet.
Below picture shows the new improved pellets beside our original pellets for contrast.

While most rabbits tuck into our Timothy Complete Rabbit pellets straight away we do hear every now and then about a bun who doesn't like them. This shouldn't really be surprising as Rabbits are notoriously fussy eaters and are often suspicious of new feeds, also they might not initially understand how healthy and amazing our pellets are.
Check out the link attached its got some great tips for transitioning a rabbit onto a new healthy diet.

Has the time come to switch your rabbit's food brand? Maybe your rabbit's current food brand isn't meeting his nutritional needs, or is making him sick. Whatever the reason, you will need to switch food brands carefully so as not to upset...

Thanks so much for your increasing support. We are sending our special hay based rabbit and guinea pig pellets all over the country and getting great reports of happy healthy pets.

However it is school holidays and we are taking a small break with our young boys over the rest of the week, so unfortunately we won't be able to send any orders out that come in from tomorrow until next week, when will be back to normal routine.

Check out this gorgeous girl 🐇 chewing on our Timothy Supreme Complete Rabbit Pellets. Her owner reports she loves them and begs for a extra one or two each night before bed. Our pellets are large, firm and take quite a lot of chewing. This is great for both rabbits and guineas, it means that they can't scoff them, is good for dental health, saliva production and environmental enrichment.

Why feed hay pellets?
When feeding hay pellets to your pets you can be confident that you are feeding the very best fibre nutrition possible. It is so important that our rabbits and guinea pigs diet is made up of 80-90% fibre and while ideally this would be predominantly long stem hay, hay pellets can be an important supplement for the following reasons:

Guinea Pigs Vs Rabbits - Part I
Rabbits and guinea pigs are often grouped together for their nutritional needs this grouping does them both an injustice. At FiberSafe we understand their similarities and differences and are working to create dedicated feeds for each species.

Similarity - Both obligate herbivores that are hind gut fermenters

Difference - Rabbits synthesize their own Vitamin C, Guinea Pigs need to have Vitamin C supplied as part of their diet.

Is Lucerne Safe to Feed Rabbits and Guineas?
Lucerne (also known as Alfalfa) is a valuable high protein, conditioning super fiber that is used worldwide on a wide range of herbivores BUT it is very high in Calcium and both Rabbits and guinea pigs are sensitive to calcium and have much lower calcium requirement than other herbivorous species. Too much calcium in their diets causes bladder stones and sludge. So in summary Lucerne for healthy adult Rabbits and Guinea Pigs is not necessary and maybe harmful. But it absolutely has a place and is valuable as a high protein conditioning feed for growing babies under 6 months, underweight animals and for pregnant and lactating Mums. At Whiterocks we have top quality Lucerne chaff and cold pressed Lucerne hay pellets perfect for growing babies and to supplement mums.

Meet gorgeous Goldie, she lives in Dunedin with two other sows for company. What is Chaff and why would you feed it to Rabbits and Cavies?
Chaff is whole hay that is cut up into lengths of about 1-2cm through a chaff cutter. So feeding chaff gives all the benefits of hay but it is much more compact, can be mixed through pellets and can be used to help with environment enrichment. Fibresafe chaff is made from the very best quality timothy and lucerne hay. Why not give it a try for your little friends.

This little golden pellet is the first prototype of our Timothy hay based complete maintenance pellet for rabbits and cavys. It has a lot of boxes to tick and we will be working on making sure it is everything it needs to be. But for a start :

RCD continues to be the worst thing a Rabbit owner can experience. The virus is spread by contact with infected rabbits (in their droppings, secretions and urine) or by contaminated food, clothes, insects, rodents, cages or equipment. The virus can survive for up to 3 months in the environment. It is Best Practice that all hay being fed to rabbits be cured or stored for at least 3 months before being fed to ensure that you are not at risk of spreading RCD. At FibreSafe all of our hay products are cured for a very minimum of 3 months (generally much longer) before the choicest parts are hand selected and packaged for your buns.
