This is a bittersweet post. Recently, Dawn was issued with her Champion diploma. Something that I wasn't sure woukd ever happen, especially not innsuch a short frame of time. At the end of August, Dawn suddenly passed away. It was heartbreaking. Dawn did so much for the Flemish breed in such a short amount of time. She was truly loved and taken far too long. Rest in peace sweet girl and know that your daughters get their love everyday and are safe with each other.

On Friday we had the amazing Alastair from Clive Cottage Veterinary Clinic come out and booster vaccinated all our bunnies as well as their annual check up. It is wonderful that not only is Alastair very knowledgeable on rabbits but he is willing (and even enjoys) to come out and vaccinate the bunnies in their home.
As bunnies are a prey species, they stress easily. This stress can reduce their immune system response and they may not develop full antibodies to the vaccine. Therefore, I fully recommend asking your vet if they are willing to come to yours to vaccinate.
And always keep your bunnies up to date and vaccinated with Filavac. It's worth shopping around to find the best vet for your bunnies, Clive is definitely the best in Hawkes Bay for mine!

I am a little without words. Today (after 12 years hard-work) Narnia Rabbitry has been recognized by the Rabbit Council of New Zealand as an Accredited Breeder of Flemish Giants. This has been a goal of mine for a very long time. It required 5 home bred rabbits to achieve CC's at 5 different shows and two strong members to vouch for my stud. I have dreamed of this!

So I don't often post photos of my rabbitry. Because the cage police will come. But this would've made my heart swell 12 years ago when I started breeding. Each cage is lovingly purpose built, as they don't make commercial cages suitable for big bunnies. Next step is to build the ground floor runs to give them double the space!

Cottontail is the daughter of Mangatoro Dawn and Farmer McGregor.

While we wait for my attempts to take proper photos, I want to celebrate a young fancier I have been supporting. I have always believed in supporting the younger and newer breeders coming through. Sharing knowledge and skills is all part of being a committed member of the fancy. Well, a BIG congratulations to Jordan who's home bred bunny, Tabitha Twitchit won Best in Youth Show at the Rabbit Council of NZ National Show yesterday. Sadly the Best in Show certificate wasn't handed out yesterday so I look forward to it arriving shortly.
Jordan will need to get her own stud name soon I think haha!

I don't really know what to say. I've been known to say "Flemish don't win shows", well today Narnia's Cottontail proved me wrong! At only 4 months and her second show she hit it out of the park winning Best in Show under Rose Sparrow. Winning with a Flemish is one thing, but this is a homebred Best in Show winner and Mangatoro Dawn's baby girl, meaning we have two Best in Show Flemish living at Narnia Rabbitry. I'll let you know when that sinks in!
