❤️ Special love needed! ❤️ From today until Sunday 21 July, there are ZERO adoption fees for our longest-waiting residents.
We have countless animals in our care that have been waiting a long time to find their forever families 😢 Some may be a bit older, some may have health or dietary needs, or some may simply be a bit shy. For these special animals, we’re removing all adoption fees in order to find their forever homes.
All of our usual adoption vetting processes still apply, so we can ensure every animal finds the right home for their specific needs.
To view all of their profiles, head over to our website today: www.spca.nz/longstayadoptions 🥰 Remember to look for the 'Special Love Needed' badge on their profile which indicates they’re a long-stay animal!
Let’s put an end to their waiting, and get them home!
SPCA Pets of the Year is back for another year! 📸
We’re on the search for the stars of our 2025 SPCA Calendars, and it’s time for the competition to begin! This year we have two calendar categories – cats and dogs 🐈🐕
Choose your favourite photo of your feline friend or canine companion, and use it to create a picture-pawfect profile over at www.spca.nz/poty24.
Share their profile with friends, family and colleagues and let the voting commence! Every vote raises vital funds for the thousands of animals that come into our care each year. All entries that raise $150 or more by the closing date is guaranteed a spot in the calendar too!
With some amazing prizes up for grabs from our sponsor OPPO New Zealand, dust off your camera and get snapping! Learn more at the link above.
Levin SPCA will be closed tomorrow, Monday the 3rd of June for King’s Birthday.
We will reopen Tuesday morning at 10:00AM.
For all animal emergencies please contact your local after hours vet clinic.

Did you know that New Zealand's ban on live exports by sea is under threat?
According to our survey, 63% of the New Zealand public aren't aware that the Government is planning to reverse our world-leading ban 😧 This would be a national embarrassment, and a huge step backwards for animal welfare in New Zealand.
Photographs taken on board live export ships show the horrific conditions these animals are forced to suffer through. Cramped spaces, standing in their own urine and faeces, many are subjected to extreme temperatures and suffer from heat stress.
There's less than three weeks left to sign the petition ❤️ Please speak up for the animals that can't speak for themselves by adding your name here: https://petitions.parliament.nz/79ff1ae2-f2e8-43c5-6c98-08dc33f5abe2
Meg, Allie and Meela are all still looking for forever homes! 🐾

Meet Meah! 💜
A very sweet and loving girl who is eagerly awaiting her forever home!
Meah was dumped in a recycling bin outside of the Gisborne SPCA with the rest of her litter when they were only 5 weeks old. After lots of love and some awesome foster families, she is doing better than ever!
Meah is now 7 months old, but still very much a baby at heart. She is a very athletic dog, and she LOVES the water!
Meah would best suit an active home, and preferably one without cats.
If you would like to know more about Meah, give us a call on 06 368 6910, or apply through our website!

We did what we do and took these little babies on as she wasn't sure she could continue caring for them. They are out in foster now growing everyday.
This was so unexpected and such a lovely surprise for the team!

Hi everyone! Merry Christmas! We are on the search for these types of shallow boxes so we can use them as disposable litter trays in our isolation room. If you have any cardboard trays, would you be able to bring them in? Box tops from reams of paper or trays for tins of cat food are good options, even drink tray cartons. Even better if you can get them from work or friends!
We have kittens ready for their forever homes!
Give us a call 06 368 6910 to make an appointment to come and meet some cute little babies.
We are closed on Sundays and public holidays but open every other day for appointments.
Kitten season is in full swing! This beautiful mama has her 2 babies plus an extra that needed a mum.
We need more fosters to foster a family like this to provide a safe space to grow.
Please apply through our website www.spca.nz
We also need more volunteers to help keep the babies we have on site clean and feed.
If your interested please apply through the website or come on down to 169 Mako Mako Rd and chat to staff!

"But I couldn’t give them back!”
It’s the most common thing we hear from people who haven’t tried fostering, and the first thing that any existing foster carer will talk to your about. Here’s just a snippet of what they have to say...
💙 “This is a valid feeling but the warmth that I get from knowing that I was a part
of helping animals find their perfect human family outweighs any sadness I have from returning them.” - Leia, Christchurch
💙 “I’d say just give it a go and see how it feels. People often ask me how I can look after kittens and then hand them back: it’s simple, I feel I’ve given each and every one of them a chance at life and to see them all go to homes is heartwarming and special.” - Susan, Tauranga
💙 “I was worried that it would be too hard to say goodbye but once I started to think of us as providing the place where the animals learn to be with people and live in a home, so they can go on to find their own forever home, it felt a lot easier.” - Andrea, Auckland
💙 “People always ask how we can give them back when we have worked with them and taught them how to be a part of a family. All we can say is... do it! It is so satisfying and humbling.” - Joanne, Christchurch
This little guy and his milk-mess face is here to ask you a question... can you give him some love? Literally! ❤️ With the number of animals needing SPCA’s help on the rise, and the number of foster homes due to go down in the upcoming holiday season, we need foster homes now more than ever.
Over the next six months, around 10,000 cats and kittens will require temporary care to heal, learn and grow. Not only felines, but dogs, small animals and farm animals can all need foster care, and we’re desperately seeking new foster homes around the country.
No matter your circumstances, we are keen to hear from you. Whether you have kids, pets, work full time or can only commit for a couple of weeks, you can make a HUGE difference in the little life of an animal in need 🙏
We cover training and all costs. All you need to provide is your time and love 🥰 Keen to know more?
Get involved today over at www.spca.nz/foster and get started on the most rewarding journey.
While many will be celebrating Guy Fawkes, we know this time of year brings extreme anxiety and fear to pets.
Each year we receive dozens of calls about animals hurt or distressed by fireworks, and this unnecessary suffering could easily be avoided! Please joins us and take a stand for animal welfare, by refusing to purchase and light fireworks this Guy Fawkes.
