Hello Fish-Garage NZ followers,

Yes, MPI made contact with me in regards to the celestial pearl danios. The Fish haven't been seized nor destroyed.

The outcome is... basically, they were very likely an 'illegal import' back in 2005 -2007.

We arent the only place to have sold them since then until now.

They have been found to be low risk to nz native waterways. We would NEVER encourage the release of an aquarium species into water ways - do not do it! that's simple, right?....

They also have said that the fish are NOT being seized and destroyed.. so that's good!

So pm me if you'd like further information on the celestial pearl danios, and I will share as much info as I can in regards to them.

Things to note.. they are not listed with EPA as a new organism as they were imported before the inception of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act. No official determination has been sought for this species via that route.

The facts:
- We did not import these. They legitimately have been in the country breeding since then.
- The species is listed on IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species as ‘data deficient’.
- There are plenty of articles out there about how aquatic keepers depleted the wild population due to the greed of aquatic keepers...
