New couple Shadow and Zander got a new addition to their abode and an early Christmas present last year.

Their mum tells us that they love spending time in the tunnels and that behind the castle is a great place to hide out too!

We also got to test out an idea for a little name plaque that we've had for a while. We think it’s the perfect finishing touch to this castle!

Christmas’s don’t all come at once, for Lilou at least. She’s the lucky new owner of all of these goodies.

We had the pleasure of delivering this custom made tunnel, hay feeder and treat tree today, and meeting the gorgeous Lilou too. She’s a super chill bun and we’re hoping she’s going to love all of her new furniture.

Happy HAY-lidays from Frank and all of us at Purrfect Palaces.

We’ve been a bit quiet on social media lately while I’ve been studying towards my masters degree, but we’re still here and quietly working away on your cat and rabbit furniture in the background.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support this year, whether you’ve followed us, engaged with our posts, or bought from us, it makes it a joy to run our wee business.

We’re looking forward to sharing some of our most recent and favourite projects in the coming weeks.

Wishing you all a relaxing and safe holiday period and all the best for the new year.

– Danielle

We love it when our customers get creative with our modular design!

Ellie’s mum wanted to join our single story castle using our bridge to a hay feeder. To make it work we just needed to make our castle a little taller to match the height of the hay feeder.

The hay feeder is custom made to fit Ellie’s existing litter tray – with lid because she prefers to wee over the edge of the tray!

Ellie is loving the new addition to her space, especially the tunnels. It didn’t take her long to start jumping up onto the castle and now zoomies up and over the bridge every morning.

For those of you who are wondering about the high heels, her mum says “they had to be sacrificed to appease her royal highness”.

Also that the sisal rope is even more fun in a pile on the floor (while I’m trying to measure how much is left)!

Christmas has come early for Doug, Spud and Dax as they’ve just had their cat shelves installed.

Doug’s curiosity got the better of him and he was the first to explore the new feature in their home. Spud has decided that the top shelf is the best place to hide his toys away from everyone else. And, Dax is happy to chill on the shelf while demonstrating that the shelf is strong enough for cats of all sizes!

Thanks to the mum of these gorgeous boys for sharing these photos with us, we love seeing your furry friends enjoying their Purrfect Palaces furniture!

A few months ago, Pepper’s lop ear disease made it difficult for her to balance and jump. So, we couldn't let her use our regular hay feeder anymore because it was too high for her to get into safely.

We needed a safe solution quickly, but we couldn't find any low-sided litter trays that worked for us. A Google search led us to some utility trays which would do the job perfectly. We made a low sided tray holder with a ramp to make it easy for Pepper to get in and out of the tray.

This simple change made a big difference for Pepper. Now, she can use the litter tray and enjoy her hay much more easily. We're excited to say that we're working on a second version with a hay feeder, so stay tuned!

Almost four weeks ago our wee Pepper stopped eating suddenly, as rabbits do from time to time. We did everything we could at home, it was Friday night and she showed no improvement so off we go to the after hours vets. It looked like stasis, and it was but we had a worrying feeling that the source of the problem was her ear.

We looked after her over the weekend until we could see our rabbit savvy vet on Monday. Come Monday it was confirmed that there was pressure in her ear but she was also having coordination problems, usually associated with the brain. The next course of action was an ear flush and it was booked for Wednesday.

Wednesday morning came, we were already worried about the procedure as she wasn’t well and had lost a fair amount of weight. Within a few hours she went from mostly stable to falling over almost every time she moved.

The ear flush was performed and the pressure was released but inflammation or infection had eaten through the bulla to the brain.

It was going to be a case of wait and see what happens. Pepper was not willing to give up and over the next few weeks she began to eat more and become more active (as she had mostly been staying in her favourite sleeping spot under the table).

She is still a bit wobbly but is adjusting well, eating normally (golden p**ps are back!), and her sassy personality is shining once again. All the signs are looking good and as we ease her off the medications, we’re hoping she stays well.

We can’t thank the amazing team at Kelburn Vets enough for the care they have given Pepper (and all our rabbits). We’re all so grateful, Frank included.

We want to be sure that everything we make is safe for your furry friend. So we weight tested our wall-mounted cat shelves and they were able to hold 30kg – probably more but we ran out of weights!

We also did some cat testing too but we’ll share that video with you another time.

How gorgeous is Nibs!?

Nibs is one happy customer. He recently upgraded from cardboard boxes to a Purrfect Palaces castle with three towers!

His mum says he spent a good few days testing it all out to ensure it was bunny safe and is now making use of all the comfy places to snooze the afternoons away.

At 8 years old, he’s certainly living his best life. ❤️

📣 We’re excited to announce that we will be supporting Rachel's KittyCat Rescue by donating 5% of sales (not profits) from all of our cat furniture range. We wanted to be able to support a small, local rescue and Rachel has even helped us rescue a rabbit or two!

Rachel's KittyCat Rescue is a cat rescue charity established in Upper Hutt. They help cats from Wairarapa to the Hutt Valley, their passion is the care, desexing, management, socialisation, and adoption of abandoned, wild and stray cats.

Since 2020, Rachel's KittyCat Rescue have rescued over 300 cats over many communities. With no headquarters they currently have just under 100 cats in care in foster homes from all over the Greater Wider Wellington region.

We’re pleased to be able to support this rescue in the amazing work that they do.

This continues our support of animal rescues in the Wellington region, where we have already been and will continue to donate to Wellington Rabbit Rescue with 5% from the sale of all rabbit furniture.

It's International Women's Day!

A day to embrace equity and work together to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive world.

Most people who contact us or meet us at markets assume that it is a man behind the scenes making our products but Purrfect Palaces is run by me – Danielle.

So I wanted to take the time to send out my gratitude to women everywhere who are working in traditionally male-dominated fields, who are proving more and more each day that we all have a place in the trades or any industry that we choose.

On our wall mounted cat furniture development journey, we made a few prototypes before we got to the final iteration and some barely made it past the first step.

So we decided to make these up anyway as samples. We have just one of these cat boxes left and it’s on sale for $139.

Sanded to a high finish but uncoated, it features premium black carpet on the floor and is extra cosy.

It’s not available through our website so please get in touch directly if you’re interested.

This one’s not flat-pack and too big to courier so it must be picked up within Wellington.

Please note that while this looks similar to our wall mounted box, it is not able to be wall mounted.

We’ll be back at the Rotary Martinborough Fair tomorrow but in a new spot under the trees in the square.

We’ve had lots of interest in our rabbit sleeping box for cats but it is just a little too small for most cats. So, we’ve made a cat sized sleeping box.

Tall enough for most cats to stand up in, it features carpet on the inside and makes for a cosy and safe place to sleep, especially on cooler days. The box lid is also carpeted and hinged for easy access inside the box.

Available in a choice of timber finishes and carpet colours as well as our standard plywood and carpet.

New product! Carpet saver cat scratcher

Cats scratch for several reasons, to sharpen their claws, shed cuticles, to stretch, and as they have scent glands in their paws, to mark their territory.

Savannah and Cleo have been testing this one for a while, saving our brand new bedroom carpet from unnecessary torture!

Our cat scratcher is great for cats who prefer scratching at carpet on horizontal surfaces over cardboard or rope.

It looks good but what’s more is that it will last almost forever. The scratching pad is reversible, so when it’s worn out just pull it out, turn it over and use the second side. After that, replacement scratching pads are available from our website.

Savannah says it makes for a great lounger too.

A one of a kind rimu sleeping box for Frank and Pepper.

We had some rimu tongue and groove flooring that was being used for shelves in a cupboard. Since upgrading the shelves a few years ago, we had always planned to use this wood to make something for the buns. So, we finally got around to processing the rimu and making it into a sleeping box.

Frank and Pepper don’t tend to chew our furniture so we could be sure that the wood would not be a safety issue. The box is coated with raw linseed oil which is safe for rabbits if chewed.
