Allowing your dog to have the choice to do unharmful things helps create a more relaxed dog. At no stage would I take this stick (log) off Boost as it is not doing anyone any harm if he chooses to carry it. All I did by calling him was make sure he had not picked up anything harmful to him. This is a cycle track not a road I am on my bike
