So excited to see my rose cuttings come to life. It’s like giving life to a dead being. I did a horticulture course over the last few months and learned about various plants propagation methods and gained some very useful skills 👍🏻

It’s amazing how much I can still plant in winter. Apart from vegetables and greens such as amaranth , spinach, lemon balm, cabbages, asparagus and tomato (in the hot tunnel), this time is great for planting trees, vines and shrubs too.

Getting the field ready for planting. The little has been has been instrumental in getting so much done in little time. We use it to rotary hoe the ground, move dirt and flatten the field, move firewood and heavy items and top the paddocks.

Our ram is looking very clean after the rain. Originally from England, this breed of lamb is a popular lifestyle block sheep that has very low maintenance. It self sheds and is resistant to fly strikes, foot rot and parasites. Some breed lines are selected for worm resistance eliminating the need to drench the animals. Their meat is regarded as specialty and very fine gourmet meat 🥩

This’s called bee and can indicate many things but it’s mostly seen in summer heat. To regulate hive temperature or simply just to cool themselves down, bee girls and drones line up outside in a very geometrically oriented fashion.

Did you know that about 30% of commercially sourced honey is adulterated and not authentic? So cool to be able to harvest our own honey so quickly after the purchase of our first hive. It’s super interesting working with bees. If I knew they are so docile I would have started much earlier when we were living in the suburban Auckland

It all started in November 2021, having spent a substantial amount of time in our city home in COVID lockdowns, we decided to take a deep breath and make our dreams of living on a rural farm true in the overpriced rural south Auckland, a place we adore with many likeminded people who are still raw and kind of untouched by the modern cultural disintegration and consumerism. More than all, we wanted our kids to grow up on a farm to explore and learn about life and nature and learn about old school values. We have some big and small plans to run a little hobby farm as a family while providing the kids with practical and hands-on learning lessons and opportunities that they wouldn’t find otherwise. We have our full time jobs, kids are a handful at times and our commutes are huge but we’re happy and really enjoying our new rural lives. Stick around for more stories.
