Truck training. The first stage of training once leading is established. A great training aid for checking your leading and tying up. Raven is only 3.5 so still finding her boundaries when she hears cues she isn't quite ready to do like walking up a steep ramp. Its important to take the time and not push them. Let them feel comfortable on the ramp going back and forth and sideways. Let them relax and start to trust it will hold them and to go forward even if worried. That kind of trust takes a long time. Years. Nothing can substitute the good miles of training.
Shelby and I worked together over 4 days letting Raven test the ramp and us before she then comfortably walked on and off without stress. Nice work team.

As part of the Nz Film horse alliance our archery team spend hundreds of hours perfecting their horse training as well as the bow and arrow. Below is a video of archery Emily Cavell, an exceptional ground archer, and one of the best horse archers in the country. Shes riding Kindra aka Knightdale, one of the fastest and most reliable horse archery mounts in the country.

They are one of the best horse archery teams in the country and available for filmwork and live events.

Please pm for more info.

Its important film horses can turn a hoof to anything. Especially the Hero horses. To be safe while looking good is expected. Here is our hero horse Grail out winning best horse for a begginer at the Kumeu show this weekend. Pix by Shelby

A few firsts today. Georgia cantering Grail down the lane and Shelby riding her own horse down the lane and firing at a walk. Kudos to the girls for all their hard work over the last few weeks to get to this stage.
Thanks to the team for having us and everyone getting stuck into it and working their asses off for nothing for a job to have to cancel the week of it due to COVID. You all showed fortitude, and were positive and we all learnt so much from each other. Let's hope we can all make it work for Easter instead.

A month in the life of a working horse means training. Different things, different locations different riders. All closely supervised and directed. If all horses and riders trained with the same methods the hand overs become more seamless and there is a standard, and ways to quantify horses and riders.

New year, new goals, new members of the NZ film horse alliance.

A fresh start and a bright light in a team that prides themselves on their training not only benefiting the production, but also benefiting the horses. Training with bio mechanics and equine psychology rather than force creates an exceptionally brave and honest horse actor. Horses and riders that perform live or onset. Pics courtesy of Dan Draper

Grails looking forward to spring and summer. A true hero horse, that is well trained and safe, as well as magnificent to look at.

We also have our white and black rearing horses Poker and Kindra.

Our animals are actors and thrive in the spotlight. They are trained to trust and will then try even if they are scared, unlike horses trained with force.

Anna Low and her team on fire that day!

When I think of how much our training has evolved since then I can just imagine the possibilities ahead.

Hard to beat the fun of running with a herd!

The best thing about knowing your team and working with them psychologically as well as bio-mechanically and with trust means you feel safe around them, and they feel safe around you.

A wise man once told me if you train with fear there will always be something more scarey than you, but if you train with trust they will try it even if they are scared.

Training is the most important part of our job. We are constantly working towards upskilling and getting better and better. Here are some shots of our youngest horse Grail doing his first horse archery clinic with international gold medal winner Katrina Kruse from Medieval Horse Sports Australia
Thanks Charisa Draper for hosting us and your lovely hospitality.
