Puppy Training over at City of Tails 🤩

We’ve been itching to get our popular Pawse & Play days back in session and there’s no cuter way to do it than with a Puppy Edition!

🔺 Training Session with Stevie 🔺
•
Stevie is a little 5 month old bundle of Staffy energy, who needs a little bit of guidance when it comes to dialling things back a notch or two! She gets over stimulated in some environments and is not always making great decisions.... easily done with a pup so young who doesn't know much about the world yet 💞
•
We started on some absolute must have foundation training skills, including promoting and rewarding calm behaviour, engagement through hand feeding and loose leash walking 🐾 Once we get the basics in place we can start adding on extras 🤓

🔹 Follow up Training Session with Bodhi 🔹
•
Bodhi is responding really well to his new training routine, including learning to recall to a hunting whistle which he is smashing 🥳 Bodhi's mum is using the Acme dog whistle, which can be used over longer distances.
•
Leash walking is still a work in progress as we tidied up how that is practised and swapping Bodhi to a slip leash to help with this. And we ended with a polite play session with Connie! What a champion guy! Well done Bodhi, see you again soon! 😍

🔺 Training with Hazel 🔺
•
This sweet girl is just 7 months old and is very much enjoying not listening to her humans, pulling on the lead, jumping up on guests and stealing socks! 🧦
•
All very normal behaviours for a 7 month old puppy who just needs a bit of guidance understanding some house rules and structuring walks so Hazel can be more attentive and less distracted. Lots to work on! Hazel is a beautiful soul with a really sweet nature, who is keen to learn some calmer behaviours 😇

✨ Puppy School ✨

Ladies were leading the way today with a beautiful & diverse turn out of breeds for our first round of Puppy school 🎓

We talked about their lifestyles and goals for each of their pups and tailored our session to help achieve those goals 🤓

Our second class of Puppy School will be on Sunday 28th April.... we're looking forward to seeing everyone again and to continue building our training knowledge. New enrolments are also welcome! 🤓

💥 Puppy School! 💥

We get lots of requests for puppy training and we're looking forward to our first group class starting up next weekend! 🤓

Training will be with so you will get two trainers for the price of one.... and these classes are designed to be fun for both owners and puppies, whilst learning some foundation training essentials. We will finish each class with some play time... learning what is and isn't polite play!

🔹 Training Session with Bodhi 🔹
•
Bodhi is an 8 month old Sprocker spaniel who is a really sweet dog, and in true Spaniel-style has his nose pinned to the ground! When he's in sniff mode his ears tend not to work either.
•
Lots of training for us get cracking with! But first and foremost we start working on handler engagement and structuring his walks so we put sniffing on command. These are new skills for everyone to learn so it will take a bit of practise!
•
Bodhi is also from working line Spaniels so keeping him mentally and physically stimulated will be hard work but very rewarding! Looking forward to our next session! Great work, Bodhi 🤩

🔺 Training Session with Bella 🔺
•
Bella is an almost 2 year old Chihuahua x Pug x Jack Russell and is really quite scared about a lot of things in life, including dogs, loud noises and new environments to name but a few.
•
Working with Bella and her owners will be a slow and steady training journey, as we will take things at Bella's pace. Lots of things to work including building Bella's confidence, help her enjoy walks again and the biggy which we will start working on *now* in April.... is starting to desensitize fireworks ready for Bonfire Night in November 🎆
•
If your dog also struggles with fireworks ... please do get in touch. Bonfire Night is only 7 months away and there are things you can start working on now ready to help your dog get through fireworks season. Don't leave it until the last minute ! 🧨
•
We will catch up with Bella again in a few weeks to track progress and adjust her training plan as necessary. Well done Bella, you'll be ok 🥰

🔺 Training Session with Autumn 🔺
•
Autumn is a 3 year old Labradoodle who has been living with her breeder, and was socialised well with other Labradoodles but is struggling a bit meeting new dogs.
•
Add to that, off leash dogs running up to her while she's on leash in an environment she's not comfortable in and we are starting to see signs of snapping and barking at these dogs.
•
Autumn's 'foundation social skillset' is actually pretty good so we will work on learning to advocate for her around other dogs, whilst also teaching how to walk nicely on a leash which will make her easier to handle if a rogue dog does come their way 🤓
•
Absolutely lovely girl with dedicated owners willing to put the time into Autumn's training. Great work guys! 🤩

🔺 Training Session with Harlo 🔺
Plus! A follow up training session with Harlo.... (sorry we have been very slack keeping our socials updated!)
•
This beautiful girl has been enjoying a lot of freedom, a lot of spoiling, and not many rules being implemented. Perfect cocktail for pulling on the lead on walks, jumping up at guests and being bit of a handful!
•
At 7 months old she's pushing the boundaries, and her breed genetics means she has the tenacity to keep on pushing! So we are working on reining Harlo in a bit 🤓
•
Structure, rules & boundaries at home are a must along with learning to walk nicely on a lead next to her human. This is not an overnight fix but Harlo's mum is committed to getting this sweet girl back under control 🥰
•

🔺 Training with Tilly 🔺
•
Tilly is a Westie x Poodle and is the sweetest girl... who is just starting to show some behaviours that we want to get on top of before they get too bad. Things like barking at everything that walks past the house, jumping up on guests, and taking herself off on little adventures if she gets the chance 🐾
•
We talked about fulfilling Tilly's needs as a dog as well as breed specific needs, and put a plan in place to give her more of an outlet for excess energy whilst also working on engagement and recall whilst out with her humans. Not enough exercise + boredom = Tilly making up her own rules!
•

🔺 Training with Goldie 🔺

This beautiful girl is a 12 week old Border Collie and whose mum wants to get training right from the get-go... because as soon as Goldie gets her final vaccs there is a huge world out there to explore! With her family guiding her all the way 😍
•
We started with some foundation training skills including engagement, rewards, recall and how to manage / enjoy / channel Border Collie genetics.... and added this to the great training Goldie is already getting at home. She's set for success!

✨ Dog & Puppy Training Updates ✨

Gosh we've been a bit quiet on this social media page while we've been working on a few farm projects... But we are still here! 🤩
•
1-1 dog & puppy training sessions are available all through Christmas and the New Year and will be a big focus throughout 2024 as well. We specialise in pet dog training... so everything you might need from day to day like walking nicely on a leash, coming back when called, general obedience and building a great relationship with your dog 🐶
•
We are also planning to start up group puppy classes in the new year... probably starting Sat 6th Jan (tbc) and will run weekly with limited spaces per class. More info coming soon! 😎
•
1-1 training sessions are available weekday mornings every day except Mondays.
