Meet Our Newest Additions! ❤️

Today, we welcomed two adorable baby blue-tongued skinks to our rescue! These little ones were literally seconds from being frozen to death, but thanks to the quick thinking of our friends at ZooVentures - Pets & Exotic Animals. Workshops / Parties / Events , they're now safe and sound with us.

Someone had handed them over to ZooVentures with the chilling intention of them being frozen, but our friends stepped in and saved their lives. We're grateful for their intervention!

The lighter-colored baby has a spinal deformity, which we'll be monitoring closely to ensure he can eat, walk, and thrive. His brother, on the other hand, is a healthy and happy little guy with gorgeous colors!

We're looking for name suggestions for these brothers! Do you have any ideas for the perfect names? Let us know in the comments below!
The healthy brother will be available for adoption once he's passed all checks and microchipped

Why I Keep Going 🐢

Opening a rescue isn't for the faint of heart. There have been times this year when the struggles felt overwhelming, and I even considered throwing in the towel.
But every time I look into the eyes of the animals in need, I'm reminded of why I started this journey.

Seeing animals like Tequila (formerly Bluey) thrive in their new homes is the greatest reward. Photos like this one, sent by her new mum, makes me so happy.
It's moments like these that make all the hard work worth it.

Auckland Pet Expo 2025, let's go! 🐾

We're stoked to announce we're back for our third year at the Pet Expo at ASB Showgrounds on September 20th & 21st! This year's expo is shaping up to be bigger and better, with more of our amazing scaly friends joining us, including Freddy the water dragon!
We'll be sharing our stall with the awesome Exoticare VN , and you won't want to miss us – we're right at the entrance, Stall 1!
Come on down for reptile cuddles, expert advice, and some awesome merch, including reptile snacks, enclosure decor, and bird goodies. Your support means the world to our rescue – see you there!

Meet our newest intakes! 🦎💕
We're thrilled to introduce you to the amazing animals that have recently joined our family.

First, let's welcome Bluey, a stunning blue-tongue lizard who's as sweet as can be. She's a large and lovely lady who's currently brumating, but we're excited to have an amazing forever home lined up for her. When she wakes up, she'll be ready to start her new life with a loving family.

Next up is Herby, a very long and laid-back blue-tongue who's a true gentleman. 🙏 He's settled in beautifully at his foster home and is enjoying all the attention and care.

We've also been reunited with Redgy, a blue-tongue who was previously adopted but has come back to us. We're grateful to our friends at Scalez & Tails Reptile Rescue Coromandel for taking him in and providing the care he needs until he can transported back to us.

Last but certainly not least, meet Gomora, our lovable bearded dragon. She's had a tough start in life, but thanks to the incredible care of Donna, she's now thriving. Gomora has some unique health challenges, including a number of missing teeth and a cute overbite. For the first year of her life, she refused to eat on her own, but now she's eating well and loving her food. She's already had two surgeries - one to remove a damaged part of her tail and another to address follicular stasis with a hysterectomy. We're so grateful to Dr. Kezia for fostering her and providing top-notch care.

We're thankful to all our amazing foster homes, including Arlo's foster family, for helping us care for these incredible animals during this busy time. Each of these animals deserves a loving home, and we're working hard to make that happen. Stay tuned for more updates on our new arrivals, and thank you for your support!

Hello rescue family! I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to touch base and apologize for being a bit quiet lately. Since moving to a new house, things have been chaotic, and I'm still figuring out how to balance work and rescue life. We're keeping busy with various projects and planning for the future of the rescue.

I kindly ask that you all remain calm and understanding during this time. I'm not always able to respond immediately (unless it's an emergency), so please don't take it personally if you don't hear back from me right away.

We're currently working on a fundraising campaign to build more aviaries, which will allow us to take in more birds this year. Stay tuned for more information on this project!

CATIO 1 IS ALMOST DONE

We're thrilled to see Catio 1 nearing completion! After moving in, this project was our top priority. Making a enclosed deck between the two cabins, it's now a safe outdoor oasis for our cats and parrots to enjoy some extra space (though not together, of course!). The finishing touch is adding a lashing for the top, and then birds of all sizes can take flight and explore.

Our cockatoos, Albert and Pearl, are already giving it two wings up, and the cats are purr-fectly happy!
You might wonder why plumbing and a bathroom weren't our first priority (3 am camping toilet adventures are no fun, trust me 😆).
But our furry and feathered friends always come first, and we knew this space would be a game-changer for them.

Huge thanks to Mike for creating this amazing space for us! We owe him a cold beer (or two) for sure.
Life has been pretty normal otherwise, but stay tuned for a post about our new arrivals and the amazing homes and foster families we've found for them!

A Heartfelt Thank You! 🐦💕

I'm beyond grateful to Pet.kiwi for their incredible donation! A box arrived filled with an amazing array of bird toys, bird food, reptile and fish food, and vitamin powder. This generous gift is a lifesaver, especially after we lost many parrot toys during our recent move. Our parrots are currently feeling a bit down, but these new toys will surely bring them joy! 😊

With 19 parrots calling our place home, we go through toys quickly, so this donation is a huge blessing. To be honest, the move hasn't been without its challenges - we've faced quite a few low points and unexpected hiccups. But this amazing gift really turned things around and made my month! 🙏 It's wonderful to know that there are kind and supportive companies like Pet Kiwi who care about our feathered friends and understand the importance of keeping them happy and healthy. Thank you again, Pet Kiwi, for your kindness and generosity! You're truly an amazing company!

Arlo's Adventure! 🦎❤️

Some of you might remember Arlo, the lovable blue-tongue lizard who joined our family earlier this year. As a rescue, he was living with a friend of mine before coming to stay with us when they moved out. My friend and I invested countless hours into gaining Arlo's trust and encouraging a healthier diet - which, let's be honest, has been a challenge given his picky eating habits!

When we moved houses, I knew I'd be juggling a lot with the other animals and the new home, and I wouldn't be able to give Arlo the attention he deserved. So, I reached out to a wonderful friend who kindly agreed to foster him. And boy, did she work her magic!

It turns out the Arlo I sent over wasn't quite the grumpy lizard I thought he was! He's blossomed into a snuggle bug, loving every minute with her husband - especially snuggling up around his feet at night. Although he's still a bit grumpy at times, he's come a long way, and his new foster family has discovered he loves soft beds and men's company!

The biggest hurdle is still his food - but his new family is crushing it, even managing to get him to eat a healthy meal or two! I'm beyond grateful they could give Arlo the one-on-one time he needed to come out of his shell. Thanks to them, this beautiful boy is thriving!

WE'VE MOVED!

We’ve finally made it! Our animal rescue has officially moved into its new digs! It was a wild ride relocating 19 parrots, 3 ducks, 1 goose, 1 possum, 3 cats, 18 reptiles, and a marine fish tank. Huge thanks to my partner Liam and his family for their epic help – we owe you one!

Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. The trailer decided to catch on fire (thanks for staying calm, Mike), the big bird aviary didn’t survive the move, and we broke a few bulbs along the way 😂. But everyone’s safe, and that’s all that matters.

The animals are settling in (except for the cats – they’re still giving us the cold shoulder), and now it’s time for the fun part: unpacking and organizing. We’ve got power sorted, but water and plumbing are next on the list. And yes, we’re crashing the in-laws for showers until then 😆.

Massive thanks to Lucy, Mike and Brandon for making this crazy move so much easier. And to Lucy, thanks for letting me borrow the chicken coop for Pancake and the ducks 🦆. We’ll miss the old place, but we’re stoked to turn this new spot into an amazing sanctuary.

Thanks, Dad, for putting up with us during this chaos and for being so understanding about the animal madness 🌈.
