Light in the Darkness 🌟

Lately, life has been tough. Losing my beloved Phoenix, saying goodbye to a dear friend, and navigating personal struggles has taken a toll. As a rescue, it's hard to process grief when there's always someone needing care. It's a constant balance between feeling overwhelmed and keeping going – feeding, cleaning, and caring for those who depend on us.

But in these tough times, moments like these make all the difference. Seeing animals thrive in their new homes brings me joy. These two beautiful water dragons were adopted and spent their first night in their new enclosure, and it's absolutely perfect. Knowing I get to help animals find their forever homes with amazing people makes my heart happy. It's a reminder that even in the darkest times, there's still light and beauty to be found 💛

Goodbye, My Love 🦎💔

I'm heartbroken to share that we've said our final farewell to my beloved leopard gecko, Phoenix. I knew this day was coming, but it's no easier to accept. Phoenix was an old lady who'd endured a hard life, and I'm grateful I got to be her safe haven.

I'll never forget when I first saw her photo on Trade Me in 2019. She was stuck in a tub, neglected and alone, with no heat, UVB, or proper food. I was new to reptiles, but something about her tiny face made me realize I had to help. When she arrived, she needed urgent care – meds, eye drops, and love. She was a fighter, and her resilience inspired me.

Phoenix was my first reptile, and she taught me everything. I'll cherish the memories of her eating her first bug (I cried!) and her trust in me over the years. She helped me start Be Kind, and we've had six incredible years together. Phoenix was more than just a pet – she was my baby girl, my comfort companion, and my heart. Life won't be the same without her perfect smile and loving nature. I'm grateful for the time we had, and I hope she knows how much she meant to me 💔

We're hesitating to share this, but the truth is, our animal sanctuary is on the brink of closure due to financial constraints and limited space. We're in urgent need of donations to build more outdoor enclosures and aviaries for the animals who depend on us.

If we close, many animals, including those on the banned species list will face dire consequences. We're not just a shelter; we're a last resort for those in need.

I thought I'd sworn off rats for a while after losing my last little ones this year, but life had other plans. A neighbor asked for my help with a tiny baby rat that had been brought into her clinic - eyes still closed, scared, and in need of care. I couldn't say no, knowing most people don't want a wild rat, (even if he's adorable)
Mow he's opening his eyes, eating like a champ, and thriving. I'm not sure what the future holds, and finding him a permanent home won't be easy, but for now, he's safe, warm, fed, and happy.

We've got some amazing reptiles looking for their forever homes.

- 1 juvenile blue-tongue
- 2 juvenile water dragons
- 1 bearded dragon
- 2 adult water dragons

ALL DONE!

The 2025 Pet & Animal Expo's has come to a close, and I'm beaming with gratitude. Massive thanks to Sophie, Dylan, and Fraya for their incredible help at the stall - I couldn't have done it without you guys! I'm so thankful for friends like you who go above and beyond.

Huge thanks also to my father-in-law Mike for transporting everything to and from the expo in record time - you're a legend! And to Forage NZ , Auckland Cavy Care , Pet.kiwi and Saving Hope Foundation , it was an absolute pleasure seeing you all and hearing your kind words. Your support and encouragement mean everything to me, especially in an industry where I often feel overlooked. It's moments like these that remind me why I do what I do, and I'm so grateful for the love and support.

I had such an amazing time meeting all the incredible people who came to visit us at the expo. It was wonderful sharing our passion for animals and seeing the excitement on people's faces when they met our reptile friends. To everyone who stopped by, thank you for your enthusiasm and interest - it truly made my weekend!

Thank you to my partner Liam for holding the fort at home and caring for all the animals we didn't bring. Sorry again for missing our anniversary (again 😆) - but it was worth it to share our passion with so many amazing people.

WOW, WHAT A DAY!
We wrapped up an incredible first day at the 2025
Pet & Animal Expo's !
We met so many amazing people, rescues, and companies - and our animal ambassadors absolutely stole the show! Freddy the water dragon was a total charmer (nail trim = no scratches😉), Zemo the blue-tongue skink was a cuddle bug, and Sticky the gecko snuggled up and snoozed in my hand. I'm so proud of them.

Can't wait for day two and meeting more awesome people! See you all tomorrow!
