LINCOLN (aka race name: Lincoln's Jade)
Our youngest newest member to the farm at just 3years old!
3yo Standardbred 16.3hh gelding

LINCOLN was a bit of an impulse buy 😅
Chrisitna and Lara went to view this boy and immediately knew he was exactly what we needed! Tall and quiet!

Lincoln is so laid back, easy going, not in a rush, not bothered by much, but a tall long unit to maneuver. He is eager to please and a blank slate, but exactly what we need for our taller beginner riders in the future. He is so kind and polite to work with on the ground, big gentle giant to the other horses (not a drama queen) and a calming friend for Major.

Lincoln won't take long to settle in but while hes still new and learning - can only be ridden by experienced riders who are balanced and ride with soft hands.
Thanks to Toni at Star Rehoming for backing this boy and selling him to us, he's what we have been looking for 😍

MAJOR (aka race name: Secret Major)
4yo Standardbred 15.2hh gelding

Major arrived 2 weeks ago, having first raced as a pacer, then was backed this summer by the lovely Holly at After The Race Whangarei. We purchased Major with the hopes that he would take Phoebe's place for our taller adult riders but I think Lara might steal him for her guide horse instead 🤩
Major is a bold forward boy, keen to run but keen to please, easy to canter and polite to work with on the ground. He is only being ridden by staff while he gets used to the property, the other horses and because he is eager to go!

Last week we said Goodbye to Phoebe ❤️ and sold her to one of our lovely staff - Lauren
She is now living her best life at her new grazing, lots of new friends and an owner who loves her very much!

After being with us for roughly 8years, Phoebe was starting to tell us that actually she didn't want to be trekking out in groups anymore and we decided is would be best for everyone if she had a change of scenery. She loved all the humans at the farm, but didn't see eye to eye with some of the herd. "Secret" will miss his girlfriend and backscratcher, but we're hoping he'll make friends with the new boys.

Thanks Phoebe for all the amazing rides over the years and thank you Lauren for taking care of her. Happy adventures you two 🥰

This is what our track looked like in the 90s - compared to now with our white limestone (photos from July 2024)
It still rains and still gets muddy in patches but it does mean we can ride all year round and the weather doesn't affect our tracks.

We would like to welcome x2 new "GINGER" members of our team....

FRESSA 🍓 (name means strawberry in spanish)

Arrived on Monday and had their first ride today. These 2 mares will be used by staff till they settle in.

Chilli 16.2hh Thoroughbred 7yo mare - is a spicy mare who will be used out the front guiding treks or maybe one day for very experienced customers next year when she is settled in. She can jump but she can also go sideways and change direction very quickly

Fressa 14.3hh Quarter horse x station bred mix 7yo mare - has sas and is firery now but eventually will calm down and be used for our intermediate kids/teens or small adults competent in canter and low level jumping

To all our valued customers we have made the decision to have a price increase effective 1st Dec 2024 🐴

1hr ride $65 per person
2hr ride $120 per person

We have maintained our low prices for the last 4 years without an increase, tried to keep it affordable for families and regular customers, but due to inflation, cost of staff, horse food and overall horse care (vet bills) we need to put our prices up.

We are still below market rate but that reflects Heather and Roger's passion and vision - "to make it possible for all people, all nationalities, all riding abilities and all ages to experience horse riding, and have a safe and enjoyable ride" 😊

We are not set up for (nor is it our passion to) give formal English riding lessons, we leave that to the experts 😉 but we do hope that with every time you visit us we will be able to help improve your riding ability as well as take you for a scenic trail ride and share our slice of heaven with you on horse back 🐎 Thanks - Christina Wylie

Horses know when something isn't right 🥺
Girly was there for Hiraeth, she called out when the vet was checking him over. She was there when he came off the sedative and nuzzled him and groomed him while we waited for the prognosis ❤️
Horses are social herd animals and support each other through pain or grief, they have their hierarchy, their friends and foes - but it's important that they have someone to journey with, and Girly was there for Hiraeth.xx ❤️

On Friday 25th October our beloved Kimanawa pony "Hiraeth" was laid to rest 🐴💔Sadly we found him hobbling in the grazing...

On Friday 25th October our beloved Kimanawa pony "Hiraeth" was laid to rest 🐴💔

Sadly we found him hobbling in the grazing paddock not putting weight on his right hind leg. After a vet examination and an x-ray, we found that Hiraeth had a fracture through the bone in his right back hock joint - in plain terms he had a broken leg. We suspect a possible kick from one of the herd but it is hard to say as it happened in the night.

Hiraeth went far too soon, at only 6years old he had so much more life to live, and so many kids to take for adventures 😢

Hiraeth we will remember you as our cheeky wee pony who loved to nibble everything and loved to play-fight with Diego especially, a cute trot and so easy to canter, with potential to be a great wee jumper. Girly will miss her best buddy and we will too. Rest in peace ❤️💔

They do love grazing in this paddock but it is far away from the house, so they do needed someone out in front showing them where to go, thanks Bubbles 🐴 for being a great leader for them 😁

Welcome back "Shalom"! Very happy to see his old mates, his bothers "Zion" and "Shadow" and dad "Buzz". Our new boy "Hiraeth" was very excited to meet him...not sure that Shalom was so happy to see a new boy running with his herd 😅
