It's not all sitting on our bums galloping around the hills 😅🐴 There is always work to do, and some of it is hard "Mahi". Today was channeling our water ways to prevent swampy paddocks with the run off from the yard. After about 10 wheelbarrows of mud, hay and w**d removed, some drain coil, mud stop and a trailer of limestone....we finished just before the thunder storm. ..in hindsight it would've been quicker getting a digger out 😅

Guess who's back back back....back again "SHALOM" is back, tell a friend 😄

After heading down to auckland with old client then a stint at Ti Point as a riding school pony - Shalom has come back to Horse Riding Warkworth. Gone for 2+ years and his brothers and dad still remembered him 😅 he was the talk of the paddock today - Hiraeth especially was interested in getting to know him. Let's see if he remembers the tracks and what he thinks of the peacocks and turkeys 🦚🦃🤗

What do we get up to when we don't have bookings?
There's always plenty to do! Yesterday we did some w**ding, diging ditches to drain water off the track, clearing water channels, collecting fire wood, painting feed buckets, sorting hay, feeding horses.....and my personal favorite - building new horse jumps 😍🐎

END OF JULY - Week 2 July School holidays were a bit wet sadly but we still managed some great rides on the fine days. So lovely taking our grandchildren riding. We enjoyed a lovely dry and sunny week first week back of term 3, a bit wet underfoot in places from the weekend rain - but beautiful blue skies this weekend especially.

Welcome to Hiraeth the latest member to the Horse Riding Warkworth team! (Taking our total number to 25 horses now)

14hh 6year old Kimanawa pony (mustered in 2018)
This little guy joined our team mid June and has slotted in so easy 😍
Suitable for kids, teens or small adults who want a cute, cuddly, quirky, immature pony with a big heart and personality, better suited to riders who can rise to trot and learning to canter.
No dirt in him other than he does search you for treats and loves to chew on anything, his reins, ropes, saddles, your hands and gumboots while you're riding 🤔 😅
Thanks to Shannon for selling him to us and knowing he would make a good fit 😉 👌 (you can never have enough ponies)

Introducing....
GIRLY 5yo 14hh bay bush pony

She actually arrived Easter weekend March 2024...we're a bit behind with the updates 😅

Girly has slotted in so well, especially for a young inexperienced wee mare. She is a laid back pony who is happy with beginners or more experienced small riders, still learning the ropes abd how to jump. Her best buddy is Apache.

Introducing...
GIRLY 5yo 14hh bay bush pony mare

Girly arrived all the way down from Kaitaia Easter weekend, March 2024 but we're a bit behind with the updates.

Girly has slotted in well, took a bit to be accepted by the herd until we put a cover on her and they all thought she was one of them 😅 Girly can be used for beginner children or small adults as well as experienced kids. She is still young and inexperienced so she's learning the ropes but picks things up quickly and is laid back by nature so needs direction and a bit of leg. Great to have her ridden by so many these school holidays, and ba****ck too.

That's a wrap!
April school holidays 2024 were packed with horsey fun for our clients and especially our Horse Camp girls 🤗 looking forward to another term of trekking and lessons and hopefully the weather holds for our weekend riders.

Thanks to all our staff for putting in the long hours looking after the customers and esp horses! 🐴

Such a great lesson today with these three 10year olds 🤗 we did some relay races through the cones, jumping practice, a game of "lord of the rings", plus some fun standing up, "round the world" exercise and some canters round the paddock ☺️

It's so great seeing these 3 improve each week and gaining confidence but most of all having FUN with their Ponies ♥️🐴

There's not many horses I will jump on in the paddock with no saddle, bridle or rope and trust them enough to canter to their grazing paddock and stop 🥰 "Bubbles" our small standardbred mare is fast but super trusting, no buck, rear (occasionally almost bolts 😂) She does so well at 27years. Welcome MONTY!
New addition to our trekking family. All the way from kaikohe. 8yo 16.3hh standardbred gelding. A big gentle giant, wants to be friends with everyone.

It'll be a while of the staff riding him and showing him the ropes but he will eventually be used for our taller customers once settled in.

Meet "Peppermint"
Born in 2000, hes coming up to 24 years old now and roughly 12.3hh.

Peppermint is a Welsh x pony who came to Horse Riding Warkworth about 2005ish. We also had his half brother Black Beauty with us for 20+ years up until last Dec.

In his early days, but Peppermint was a pocket rocket 🚀 with a very fast walk, trot and canter, keeping up with the bigger horses, this guy didn't muck around! Unfortunately he was known to have the occasional sneaky buck in him when he got excited 🤭 so only could have small strong riders on him. He was a great jumper as long as you coukd keep his head up and not let him bolt.

These days he's taking life a bit easier, slower rides, keeping our young riders at a fast walk but a sensible trot, no more bucks in him and happy to leave out the canter 😅 Peppermint is prone to laminitis - this dude is often in the diet paddock to keep him off the sugary spring/summer grass.

Claim to fame party trick - Peppermint can remove any bridle, halter, grazing muzle off his face on his own without undoing any straps or buckles 😂 we have caught him trying to pull other horse's halters off too!

This crazy weather! 🌞🌞🌧️⛈️🌞🌞
Fortunately we managed 4 rides with a very heavy down pour that came at lunch time so we all stayed dry on the rides but the poor horses got drenched at lunch! 🌧️⛈️🌦️
Quick way to cool off in the muggy heat - cold shower anyone? 😂
