Today 10years ago, on the 1st of June 2015 - we said goodbye to our first ever pony "Misty" πŸ¦„

She was our hardest working, longest serving member of Horse Riding Warkworth but more importantly, a loved and cherished member of our Mackenzie family ❀️

Misty at 6years old was purchased in Nov 1988 as a first family pony for the kids. At only 13-ish hands, she was compact but stocky, with a swaying trot and floaty canter.
Misty was with us for 26years teaching all of our 5 kids how to ride as well as the hundreds of kids (and adults) who learned from 1996-2015 through the Horse Riding Warkworth business. Farm treks, road rides, forest rides, pony club, ba****ck, doubling/tripling - she did everything (but maybe never got to the beach).

Misty was the beginning of our Horse Trekking dream, and even now (almost 30years on) we still love what we do, and remember her legacy.

Our local "Kākā" having a party in the trees this evening. More than 20 of these native NZ parrots 🦜 a very distinctive "screech".

The New Zealand kākā (Nestor meridionalis) is a large species of parrot of the family Strigopidae found in New Zealand's native forests across the three main Islands of New Zealand. The species is often known by the abbreviated name kākā, although it shares this name with the recently extinct Norfolk kākā and Chatham kākā. Two subspecies of New Zealand kākā are recognised. It is endangered and has disappeared from much of its former range, though the re-introduction of North Island kākā at Zealandia in Wellington has led to an increasing population of the birds across the city.

BONNIE ❀️ (registered name: Buono Gambe)
15.3hh 11yr old SB Mare

Bonnie has been with us for 1week now. She never raced but has had 1 foal previously who is starting his trotting career now.

Bonnie is a sweet sensitive mare who can become anxious, so we are trying to take things slower with her. Even though she is 11years old, she was only backed this year (to our knowledge) and needs a confident reassuring soft rider to help her with getting comfortable under saddle. At this stage only staff will ride Bonnie till we feel she is comfortable and found her place in the herd.

Special thanks to Holly Robson at After The Race Whangarei for backing her and taking care of her. You've done an amazing job with both Major and Bonnie - we love them both ❀️
