I took Hollie and Anya to Freeman Roofing this week to say a big thank you for their generous $1000 donation.

One of their directors has passed away this year, and in his memory their 11 branches were allowed to pick a charity to donate $1000 too.

We are honored you guys chose us. Thank you so much.

Anya and Hollie had a great time in their dog friendly office having snuggles with the team and greeting the visitors.

Yesterday We gave 3 Dogs their Freedom Rides!
All 3 were picked up as strays and unclaimed so the pound asked if we could take them.
Welcome to Ellie's Cocoa, Scrapy & Blossom!

Cocoa a 1-2 yr friendly English staffy went straight to a foster to adopt home where there were treats waiting for her and grass to roll in.

Scrapy a 8-9 month old very unique looking Corgi X Lab/Retriever? who is very friendly with people and dogs. During transport he decided to have a snack through the side of the crate, lol. He is being fostered with Sox (also up for adoption) so now they have a playmate. He will be available for adoption once he has been desexed. He is great with kids but not with cats - might be good after training.

Blossom a 10 week old Staffy X was a last-minute pick up so she wouldn't have to stay over the weekend in the pound. She went to a foster with other puppies around her age, so she has some friends to play with and help with teaching her about toileting. She will be available once up to date on vaccines.

Another 2 little cutie patooties looking for a home (together).

Beau and Shadow are pure Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and are 3.5 years old. They have come from a very loving home, unfortunately the owner is very unwell so made the very hard choice to surrender them.

These two adore people and are the definition of lap dogs. They need a home together where they will not be left alone for long periods. A youngish retired person or couple would be perfect. They have a dog bed but much prefer the humans bed. They are delightful pair that are great with other dogs, and probably would be okay with a cat (untested).

They are both desexed males, vaccinated, chipped etc and are such easy going dogs that take any change in their stride.

This is the face of a puppy happy he is safe.

Yesterday we collected Felix and his 4 siblings after a message from a member of the community asking for help. She had been walking her dog by the river in Taita and come across 5 dumped pups.

The wonderful lady rescued them from the cold and the rain but couldn't keep them. They were lucky to be found.

Felix and his siblings are now safely in foster care with us, they have full bellies and a vet checkup today.

I want to appeal to the people who dumped these pups. Please can you reach out to us? We will desex their mum so that you are never put in the situation where you feel that this act is the solution to your situation again.

You don't have to tell us it's you, but please let us desex their mum- no charge to you.

Over the weekend we picked up 2 more Chinese Crested puppies from a pound up North. A big thanks to ARAN Animal Rescue NZ for meeting me in Palmerston North. with them. Not many people have seen a Chinese Crested before so when out and about you often get stopped and asked what is wrong with your dog or if it has alopecia! We have had 3 cresties previously from this pound, 2 of which still live with me (Fabio and Phyllis)!

The latest 2 cresties are only around 4-5 months old and are the sweetest girls. The black hyena like one is very clingy and needs a lot of reassurance but her black and white sister is an out going ball of energy that loves fetch and playing.

Any one that knows me will know these are my (Nicole not Vicky lol) most favourite dog in the world but unfortunately I cannot keep every Chinese crested we get 😭

These 2 need an experienced home(s) that understand the breed and the specific needs they have. They will of course be desexed, vaccinated, chipped, flead, wormed etc.

In the almost 7 years of Ellie's we have never been surrendered a pure English bull dog, then in the last month we have been surrendered 3 from unrelated people! When it rains it pours.

This is Stubby, she is a fabulously stubborn 6 year old desexed girl.

She is a hilarious girl that enjoys sleeping, farting, snoring and walking (when she feels like it).

She is fine with dogs when out and about but does not want to share her house with one so is seeking a home without cats or dogs that is familiar with the breed. As far as bulldogs go she is actually relatively healthy, she just has a pretty good underbite.

English bulldogs are guaranteed to cost you a fortune in vet bills so Stubby is seeking an experienced owner.

When Marco was surrendered he was a bit of a matted mess, after 2 hours of shearing the wool off he was the happiest dog that was frolicking and rubbing his back on my carpet. The owners that surrendered him were actually very nice so this is not intentional neglect, it is what happens when breeders sell a dog that needs grooming and don't due any due diligence about their new home.

Marco is now shaved, neutered, vaccinated, flead, wormed and in the most fabulous forever home where he gets the exercise his border collie mind needs (and the grooming his inner poodle needs). Marco is such a wonderful, kind and obedient dog that we couldn't be happier to see him in such a great new home. His old owners will be stoked too!

We see a lot of matted dogs coming into the rescue, it is incredibly painful for them as the skin becomes intertwined and can effect their ability to walk as well. Luckily for Marco he will never be matted again!
