Look at cute faces!

These are just some of the beautiful pups and dogs we have looking for their fur-ever families.

They all up to date with vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and microchipped. Nikau, Jelly and Jojo are already desexed - the rest of the pups desexing costs will be covered under the adoption fee at our vets.

These dogs and pups all live in foster family homes where they are being loved, socialised, toilet trained and taught basic obedience.

If you are interested in meeting one of them with a view to adding to your family, then please complete our online pre-adoption form here: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/adopt

Pups looking for a lift from Murupara to Waiouru.

A family reached out to our friends at All Paws Count Murupara Trust for help. A female dog they found dumped and had rescued gave birth to a litter of 11 pups! The pups are now 5 weeks old and starting to be weaned and the family can't afford to continue feed and provide vet care for them (11 pups are expensive!).

In a joint effort to help this family, All Paws Count Murupara Trust are desexing mum and we are rehoming the pups. We have a lift organised for them from Waiouru to Wellington (any day except Saturday), we just need a volunteer or volunteers to bring them from Murupara to Waiouru.

If you can help them we would love to hear from you - please message us or All Paws Count Murupara Trust directly, it can be hard sometimes to keep up with the comments.

If you would like to financially contribute to helping us with rescuing these pups our account details are: Ellie’s Canine Rescue and Rehome, ASB, 12-3478-0067646-00

If you would like to support All Paws with desexing the mum then their account details are: All Paws Count Murupara Trust 02-0412-0190306-000

Sensory garden update

A bit more progress with the nice weather.

We have the frame of our larger digging pit! As well as these two tractor tyres in place. Not so visible improvements also include the securing of the small puppy zone enclosure and the filling of some crator like holes in the lawn.

Thanks to long term Ellie’s supporter Doug for his building skills and to Stu for this awesome trailer load of essential supplies. You guys are amazing.

Dog of the Week: Teale!
Thank You@jomoorephotographer for the amazing photos.

Teale is a 2.5 yr old lovely, playful Greyhound x Lab female, she is large height but lean build.

Teale is a sweetheart: she’s a fun, playful goofball who makes you laugh with her character & melt your heart with her cuddles

She’s great with playful dogs, she loves playing with her foster brother. She loves all dogs she meets & would make a great companion for both humans & dogs alike.

Teale loves to chill & cuddle with you on the couch.
She is crate trained and can be left home during the day.
She is toilet trained and walks well on lead.
She knows sit, down, wait & is improving her off-lead recall
She’s the type of dog that loves seeing the world & being at your side.

Teale will make an amazing best friend & has so much love to give. She would do great in a family home, or with an active person that likes all her attention

Good with Cats: No
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Kids under 10: Yes
Good with Kids Over 10: Yes
Fence Height: 1.2m
Can be left alone: Yes

Teale has a luxating patella on her right hind leg (dislocating knee). It has been thoroughly checked & had x-rays done by one of our trusted vets who has recommended she NOT have surgery on her leg as it would not be beneficial for her.
Teale moves around very well with her leg; she has regular exercise and a specialised food to help. With well managed health and diet she will keep living a great life she deserves.

Ellie’s are based in the Greater Wellington region, depending on the dog we do adopt out of the region but request the potential owner meet us & the dog in person. We do not ship dogs unmet.
If you are interested in Teale, own your house & can give a loving home then please complete this form: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=vh3049&method=online_form_html&formid=42 (or visit http://www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz & click on Adopt)

EDIT - Tracy, Xanthe, Mr. Wrinkles and Zoe have all been ADOPTED!

Maisie, Fluffy, Rocco and Bodhi are still looking for homes.

Puppy adoption meeting - tomorrow afternoon (Saturday 1 Feb) in Upper Hutt

We have two part litters of pups looking for these forever homes. If you would like to meet them then please complete the pre-adoption form found here: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/adopt

One litter is 17 weeks old, fully vaccinated and microchipped. They are Bearded collie x Labrador and will be medium to large when full grown. They are very smart and energetic, love children and other dogs. Great dogs for an active family looking for an adventure buddy.

The other litter are German Shepherd x Shar-pei x Rottweiler (plus a bit of Ridgeback we think). These will be large dogs. These pups are 14 weeks old and have had two vaccinations and are microchipped. They are really well socialised, very affectionate, love cuddles and playing.

Photos of attending pups are below.

Little Rex is looking for a loving new home to live out his retirement. At 9 years young Rex is in excellent health for his age with no ailments. He is a Schipperke. This breed originates from the Flemish provinces of Belgium where they were barge dogs. They are an active little dog with a thick coat that sheds twice a year. Rex is incredibly friendly and eager to please. He is a toy size dog between 5-10 kg.

Rex is looking for a home that:
- is home most of the day. A retired couple on the younger side would be perfect as he adores attention but is still quite active.
- has no small children, he is great with kids but does not like being picked up. The vet has checked and this isn't a medical concern, he just simply doesn't like it!
- can brush him once a week.
- will spoil him!
- No cats. He hasn't been around them before and may chase them.

Fun fact: Schipperke is Flemish for “little captain.”

If you own your own home in Wellington and think you would be a good fit for Rex please fill in our pre adoption form here: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=vh3049&method=online_form_html&formid=42

Lift needed for four 6 week old pups.

Our amazing friends at All Paws Count Murupara Trust have reached out for our help with four sweet pups.

A local Murupara family were enjoying their time by the river when a car drove up, dumped these pups and drove off! They quickly picked the poor, confused pups up and called Galina for help as they have their own dogs and can't keep these pups long.

We have foster placement waiting for these pups here in the Wellington region, we just need help to get them from Murupara to us.

Please, if you are traveling this weekend and could help us get these pups from Murupara to the Wellington region, please reach out 🙏.

Even if you can only do part of the journey let us know. If you can't help personally, then please can you share this post so someone who can help could see this.

We have amazing supporters here on this page. We know you guys can help us get these pups to their new foster home.

If anyone knows the family who owns the mum. Please have them reach out to us or Galina. No questions asked, we will pay for mum to be desexed so she has no more unwanted litters like this.

Introducing Toby the 6 year old jack russell (possibly with a touch of Foxy).

I am a spritely gent that loves walks and playing fetch. I need a bit of training to learn I don't need to bark at other dogs on walks but apart from that I am a pretty good boy.

Typical for breed, I have been known to catch birds and mice so an energetic home without birds or cats would be my ideal new home.

If you are interested in little Toby please fill in our pre adoption form: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=vh3049&method=online_form_html&formid=42

Sensory garden updates - #1

Work is slowly progressing. Our working bee day with the wonderful crew from NZDF was a lot of cleaning, clearing and de-nailing our donated wood and pallets. We also managed to get the frame of the small puppy zone up.

We were privileged to be donated some fencing from GreatWhite Landscaping: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095016270028&mibextid=ZbWKwL

This fencing has made a huge difference to a very insecure section of the back fence (see photos for before and after) and will help keep our dogs and pups secure when they are exploring the sensory garden, so thank you so much for your generous donation.

Happy New Year from everyone at Ellie’s.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us through 2024. We appreciate everything that people have done for us from sharing posts, donating, fostering, adopting, providing advice or working with us in partnership - every action helps us to save more dogs.

Thank you so much to all the people who donate funds to us that help us pay our vet bills. We honestly would not be here without you.

Thank you to all our fosterers. You open your homes and hearts to these dogs and pups freely and ask nothing in return. You are our heroes.

Thank you to Cheryl Trust Practitioner NZ for providing behaviourist help and support to our fosterers and new owners so our rescues can heal. You've helped so many, we are so grateful to have you on this journey with us.

Thank you to Your Dog's Way for creating a great online puppy training course for our fosterers and new puppy owners to help them set pups up right from the start.

Thank you to Animates Porirua and Animates Lower Hutt and Masterpet New Zealand and PBT Wellington for providing us with dog food for our rescues and to distribute to those struggling in the community.

Thank you to Maidstone Veterinary Clinic, Rappaw Veterinary Care, Central Hutt Veterinary Clinic, Raumati Vet Centre, Vets on Riverbank for providing advice and care to our rescues.

Thank you Jo Moore Photographer, glennelvy.com and Alex Colliss for donating your time to take amazing photos of our dogs and pups to help them get adopted.

Thank you to everyone who has adopted a dog from us. Thank you for giving a rescue dog or pup the home it deserves.

We are so grateful for all of you. We can save dogs lives because of your support. It takes a community of like minded people to put dogs first to make rescue successful.

We wish you all the best 2025.

Merry Christmas to all of our followers and supporters from the Ellie’s crew.

Since our first year we have always worked with local Animal Control to take a dog or pup on so they don't have to spend Christmas in the pound.

This year we took on Pepper. Pepper is a cute female, 5mth old, small staffy mix.

Pepper is settling in happily with her fosters.

Pepper wishes all the other doggos out there a Meri Kirihimete and would love to see their Christmas Day photos.
