Puppy fosterers needed - immediate start (Greater Wellington Region)

As some of our pups have gotten a little older, they now need to be separated from their littermates. They need more one on one attention to continue their basic obedience and socialisation.

We are looking for some fosterers who would be interested in fostering pups from 3-6mths old. These pups are crate trained and most are completely toilet trained. They can be left for short periods, slightly longer if they have other doggy company. They have all been raised with other dogs, either live or have had regular contact with children and some are OK with cats and stock as well.

What we need from you is:
*A love of pups no matter their size or breed
*Time and the patience to spend on continuing these pups training and socialisation
*A safe fenced area for the pups to have a run around and continue their toilet training
*The ability to get them to vet appointments and puppy adoption meetings
*Able to take and send us cute photos of your foster pup

We provide their food, crate, bedding, bowls, collar, lead, flea and worm treatment and free access to our online puppy training course as well as puppy foster groups connected to our experienced long term fosterers who can offer advice based on years of experience.

For more information on fostering with us and our online foster form please go to our website here: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/foster
NB: Please check with everyone in your household that they are keen on fostering before you apply and be prepared for us to make contact almost immediately.

ALL these pups are also available for adoption. Please go to: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/adopt if you are interested.

Puppy adoption meetings - Sunday 14 September in either Paraparaumu or Upper Hutt.

These cute pups are all ready for their forever homes. Fosters have started crate and toilet training for the younger ones. They have had 2 vaccinations and are microchipped.

The slightly older ones are fully vaccinated and started basic obedience and leash training.

All pups socialised with other dogs and children. Some have been with cats and stock as well.

If you are interested in meeting a new family member, then please complete the pre-adoption form found on our website: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/adopt and we will let you know the address and time.

The update on Sarge that many of you have been asking for. Well it is good news and bad news.

Good news:
- Sarge is in a rural foster home with 2 other elderly rescue dogs and has become best friends with one of them (the Shepherd) and he has become his guide dog.
- He is still the happiest dog in the world and has learnt the layout of the house so doesn't even bump into things now.
- He is on good drugs now, albeit expense ones.

Bad news:
- The eyes are worse than we thought. He visited a Vet in Masterton very experienced with ophthalmology (study of eyes). He has zero tear production in one eye and the other has minimal tear production. It was clear he had dry eye but zero tear production is not good. Imagine your eye had no tears and you still had to blink every few seconds, it becomes like sandpaper and is incredibly painful and causes irreversible damage.
- He actually only has one cherry eye even though it looks like he has 2. The second one is actually his third eye lid so inflamed and sore from the zero tear production that it has swollen outwards.

The plan:
- We are on a 3 week trial of Tacrolimus 0.05% Opthalmic Ointment. This is the mac daddy of ointments for dry eye and especially compounded by Optimus.
- Best case scenario is both eyes start producing tears and he will be on this ointment forever. The more likely scenario is that the eye with zero tear production will need to be removed and then the remaining eye will be on the ointment for life.
- He is still on malaseb washes and pifimicort cream for his skin as well.

As you can see from the photos Sarge is incredibly happy and thriving. This will be the best he has felt in years with lubricated eyes to blink with.

A massive thankyou to www.caninecareprobiotic.com. CanineCare Probiotic These wonderful people sent Sarge a gift package with goodies to help his skin and gut. Their products are also amazing on horses!!!!!

Thank you to everyone that donated. We have raised $1,595. Part of this has been used on the eye ointment and skin wash and the remainder will go to part cover the eye enucleation surgery (eye removal) and neutering. We truly appreciate everyone that has helped towards this.

Sarge's foster is in love so hopefully he will stay permanently there, we do however have another pure English bull dog up from adoption, she needs a house without other dogs or small kiddies though because she is a diva that likes to be the centre of attention of course!

Yesterday we broke 9 year old Lola the english staffy x out of the pound, her euthanasia date was set for Friday but the pound kindly held her until Tuesday to give us a bit more time. While I was there getting Lola I met Ranger and couldn't say no so in he hopped too.

I had a 10 hour round trip (with my unimpressed baby in tow) from Masterton to Levin, Waitarere Beach, Paraparaumu, the Hutt Valley and more. Lola has been dropped at a wonderful foster home on a farm who reports she has settled in like she has always lived there and I caught up with 4 other little dogs on trial in the region and finalised their adoptions. Then little Ranger came back to mine to be fostered where he slot in instantly, well with every one except poor David; I'm not sure why he has a dislike towards David.

I know lots of you are wanting a Sarge update so I will try and do one tonight. There is good news and bad news but he is beyond happy and looking a million times better already.

Cooperation and collaboration between dedicated rescuers has saved this sweet boy from being euthanized.

When Ted came to the pound from a loving home who couldn't afford multiple dogs anymore, the animal control officers could see he was truly lovely natured boy.

Desperate to save him, as they are full and have no space to keep dogs on long term, they started to reach out to rescues to see who could take him.

We have no spare fosters and thought we wouldn't be able to help - but an amazing lady - Janine, saw an appeal post from KEYSAR RESCUE and approached the pound directly to offer to foster.

As this pound doesn't currently have a direct rehoming programme (they rehome through rescues). The ACO looking after Ted called and asked if we'd take him on if Janine fostered. Of course we said yes.

Tonight Ted is safe because of the passion dog lovers not giving up and working together to save him. The world needs more people like this ACO who works tirelessly to try and save as many as she can in an ever worsening situation of unwanted dogs. Thank you 💚

It needs more people like Ree at Keysar who fights for every dog and builds up and supports other people in the rescue community. Thank you Ree ❤️

And we definitely need more people like Janine, who despite still mourning the passing of her dog a week ago, has opened her home to a lost soul needing saving.

The only thing stopping us from saving more is a lack of fosters. Please, help us save more like Ted. Complete our online foster form at : www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/foster

Sensory garden update.

For new followers - we are creating a sensory garden in one of our Founder's back garden for rescue pups and dogs to explore different and new sensations in a safe place. It's also a great place to hold puppy adoption meetings.

With winter weather progress has been slow, but volunteer Doug Prince has been popping by on sunny days and made some great changes. Thank you so much Doug 😊

The small puppy zone now has a sandpit - which has been tested and approved by our latest litter of small pups.

It also has a bricked entrance by the gate because it was becoming a bit of a mud bath with the rain. The sensory squares have been framed and the brick one completed.

In the main area we have concreted by the side of the deck to make an area to put potted scented trees and store spare toys over the summer. It's gated to protect the trees once they are in there.

We are so excited to announce our first Ellie's Canine Rescue & Rehome fundraising calendar!

The calendar features 12 of our successfully adopted dogs and pups and has their rescue stories in the front. It is double A4 format so enough space to be useful without being too large.

The photos were taken by the wonderful Jo Moore Photographer who volunteered her time for us - we are so very grateful for these wonderful images. It was really hard for us to choose which ones to use!

We would also like to thank Kim from Klear Graphics ([email protected]) for her wonderful, fast work and discount on the design and printing.

We are also very grateful to the owners of these beautiful Ellie's rescues who took time out of their day to meet with Jo so these wonderful photos could be taken.

We are selling the calendars for $20 each (we receive $8 per calendar). To purchase one or more of these wonderful calendars then please make payment into our fundraising account: Ellie’s Canine Rescue and Rehome, ASB, 12-3478-0067646-03. Please put your telephone number and "calendar" as the reference. The phone is important so we can call you to arrange you receiving your purchase.

We currently have collection points in Upper Hutt, Paraparaumu and Carterton (we hope to have some more soon). We can also post them to you for the additional cost of a post bag - if this is your preference then please PM us so we can work out the details.

EDIT - the first batch will be with us early next week.

Some of Sasha's pups are still looking for their forever homes.

Mum has found the best home ever and so have some of their siblings. But Danica, Etta and Oski are still waiting!

These pups are 6mths old today - it would be great for them to find a forever home for their half-birthday.

They have all been raised with cats and dogs and are great with children. Etta has been on a lifestyle block so is used to stock.

These pups are toilet and crate trained and learning basic obedience. They are microchipped and fully vaccinated and the adoption fee will cover their desexing as well.

If you would love a new buddy for adventures and cuddles then come and meet one of these guys. Just complete the application form here: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/adopt
