Can you believe these guys are all from the same litter?

These beautiful pups came to us with mum from the pound when they were just 4 weeks old. They are now 18 weeks old and still waiting for their forever homes.

They are all fully vaccinated, microchipped, toilet and crate trained. These pups have been socialised with other dogs, cats, children and in Ember and Lucy's case stock and poultry as well.

So if you are looking for a great family dog with some of the hard work already done, then look no further! These pups are smart, up for adventures and cuddles.

If you would like to meet them, then please complete the online pre-adoption form here: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/adopt and we will contact you.

If you are not looking for another dog, please can you help these adorable pups find their forever homes by liking and sharing this post so it hopefully reaches the right family for them.

Thank you

Dear wee Penny is looking for her forever home after her beloved owner had to go into a nursing home. She is 12 years young bichon x poodle in Wellington.

Penny is toilet trained and fairly spritely for her age. She needs a home with a retired person or couple in a quiet home that will spoil her. She is very much a lap dog and has so much love to give.

Penny has just recovered from a fairly big dental and lump removal, her bloods also showed she is in good health! Thankfully the previous owners family covered this cost.

If you are in Wellington, retired and looking for a lap dog to dote on then please fill in the preadoption form: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=vh3049&method=online_form_html&formid=42

Looking for a new foster or foster to adopt home.

Bentley's foster dad has sold his home and sadly can't take him with him. We are looking for a foster or foster to adopt placement for Bentley from this week.

Bentley is 3yrs old large medium bull terrier mix. He was born in the wilds of Canon Creek and came to Ellie’s at 6 weeks old after we rescued his stray mum and her litter of 8 pups.

Bentley was adopted by a family and lived with cats, other dogs, children and birds. Sadly, they moved to Australia earlier this year and couldn't take Bentley with them, so Bentley came back to us.

Since he returned, Bentley has been living on a lifestyle block and going on camping trips with his foster dad. He travels really well, loves ball games and is fully crate and toilet trained. He is happy home alone for periods of time and doesn't bark.

Bentley can take time to warm up to some people. He'll bark if he's not sure, nothing else. Once he knows you, he's the best cuddle buddy and ball fetcher you could have.

If you are interested in fostering our Bentley then please complete the online foster form here: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/foster.

Wee Princess came into us recently from the pound. This poor girl had claws growing into her pads leaving her unable to walk properly, so much so that the muscles in her hind legs were almost non existent. She was very underweight weighing just over 1 kg and she had a mouthful of rotting teeth. Despite what this poor girl has endured she is the sweetest wee thing that is very eager to please. On Friday she had her big dental which removed all her rotting teeth. She still needs to be desexed as well once she is recovered.

This dental has set us back $1499.48, but it is worth it to see Princess now pain free and able to spend the rest of her life in a loving home.

If you would like to help us with her dental and desexing we would truly appreciate it, our account details are: Ellie’s Canine Rescue and Rehome, ASB, 12-3478-0067646-00

We are a registered charity so you can claim back 33,3% of your donation. Just email [email protected] or message us to ask for a receipt. https://www.ird.govt.nz/income-tax/income-tax-for-individuals/individual-tax-credits/donation-tax-credit

Happy International Dog day to all NZ's dogs - but especially the chained ones.

This is best news. Hopefully it will mean a great lifestyle change for many of NZ's chained dogs.

Life chaining dogs is wrong. Dogs need exercise, mental stimulation and company to be mentally and physically healthy.

Thank you to Chained Dog Awareness NZ, HUHANZ and SPCA New Zealand who have dedicated years of work to make this happen.

CHAINED DOG ANNOUNCEMENT! 🎉 SPCA is thrilled with Minister Hoggard’s announcement today on the new regulations to target the prolonged tethering of dogs, which will come into effect 25 September.

The new regulations state that a person must not tether a dog if it results in observable signs of suffering linked to the prolonged tethering. Certain categories of vulnerable dogs including puppies and pregnant dogs cannot be tethered at all apart from in a few exceptional cases.

“This is long-fought and hard-won victory for dogs across Aotearoa,” says Dr Alison Vaughan, SPCA’s Scientific Officer. “These changes won’t solve every case overnight, but it’s a step forward that will permit our Inspectors to act in situations where they couldn’t before."

The changes are a direct outcome of SPCA's work behind the scenes with MPI and the Minister, the powerful backing of supporters through our ‘Break the Chain’ campaign and the work of other animal rescues including HUHANZ and Chained Dog Awareness NZ. Thank you to everyone who supported this important work and contributed to this long-awaited outcome 🙏

Puppy adoption meetings - tomorrow Sunday 23/8 at 1.30pm in Upper Hutt and Paraparaumu

Come and meet some of our beautiful pups tomorrow in either Upper Hutt or Paraparaumu. They range from just 9 weeks old to 8mths old. All pups have had at least their first vaccinations and are microchipped.

Just complete the online pre-adoption form found here: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/adopt with your details and we will email or text you the address.

No pup would go home during these meetings - we have a process including completing property checks and adoption contracts before pups come to their new families.

We had a good citizen reach out to us asking our help with a young pup.

He had found her on his way back home from a trip away. Unable to find her owners, he brought her with him but couldn't keep her.

This sweet girl is so skinny you can see the bones in her tail 😭 She has obviously been hungry for a while.

She's safe now, snuggled up in front of fire at her fosters house with a full belly. Tomorrow she is going to the vet to get checked out and vaccinated. We think she's around 3mths old.

Despite her skinny condition she's not wary of people or other animals and has shown no food aggression. Dogs really are so loyal and loving, we humans don't deserve them ❤️

Welcome to Ellie’s little Parka.

Our biggest thanks to two of our loyal fosters who helped make this girls rescue happen today. One for picking her up and one for agreeing to take her in at short notice.

If you would like to join our foster team and help give pups and dogs a second life then please go to our website and complete the online form: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/foster. We especially need fosters keen to take on teenage pups.

When you go to a farm to pick up chickens and come home with an unwanted foxy 🥴

This cutie is foxy Roxy, she is 5 years old. Her previous owners said if she is yelled at she has seizures so she is possibly epileptic. She also has a skin infection that needs a bit of treatment too.

Once she is desexed, chipped and vaccinated and her skin has cleared up she will be up for adoption to a loving and quiet home. She is incredibly trusting and friendly.

Welcome Roxy.

Today is our 6th Birthday!

Six amazing, crazy years full of hope, laughter, tears, frustration and joy.

Every year is busier than the next. But this is our passion. It warms our hearts when we rehome a dog to a wonderful new family. It gives us peace when we desex a mum dog so we know she'll never have to have another litter. We love helping people in the community with food, desexing, microchipping and blankets for their dogs in these hard financial times.

For us, the rehoming is awesome, but the other stuff is what makes the biggest difference to lives of more dogs and people in NZ. If we don't desex the parents when we take a litter, we are only enabling back yard breeders.

We know many of the people who follow our page have adopted from us, so please on our 6th Birthday 🎂 drop us a photo of your Ellie’s rescue.

We'll start with photos of our committee members foster fails!
