📢 Did you know: Wellington City Council asks for all paid dog-walkers to have a license.

We think it's a great opportunity to refresh ourselves on our responsibilities, and make sure we're operating in a way that is not disruptive to the public or the environment!

Mackenzie got her license back in 2023, and Brett completed the day course (step 1 of 2) late last year! Now we’re just waiting for an in-person assessment to complete Brett’s certification - yay for progress!

One key requirement is liability insurance and a health & safety plan - both of which we already had. Safety is a top priority for us at Mackenzie Pet Care, and we always recommend choosing a dog walker who is fully insured and prepared for any situation.

Dog Walking Favourites! 🐕‍🦺

Lately, a few lovely people have asked about my favourite dog walking spots - so I’ve put together a little map to help you explore! Whether you're looking for something nearby or don’t mind a drive, there are some great options to check out.

We’re so lucky to live in such a stunning part of Wellington’s South Coast. Honestly, all of these walks come with amazing views, but I thought I'd highlight one for today. One of my top picks is about halfway through the Oku St Reserve walk (which I believe is on-lead only!). There’s a bit of an uphill climb at the start, but it’s absolutely worth it. Plus, the narrower trails mean plenty of exciting sniffing opportunities for your pup along the way!🐶

We were sad to say goodbye (or hopefully, see you later!) to our lovely friend Bowie as he moved overseas towards the end of last year... Bowie was such a pleasure to walk, and a great groomee too. I'd even pop in on our days off to see him at SmackBang in town (which if you don't already know, is the best pet boutique ever!). Bowie was excited for a walk rain or shine, and would be extremely sweet with all of our little friends in particular, encouraging even some quite shy dogs to chase him around 🥰

He is just so beautiful too, I think I genuinely have about 3000 photos of him... so I had to share just a few more!

We are already missing your smiley face so much Bowie! xx

Nothing makes my day like hearing kind words from clients (and their humans!). 🐾

Redford is such a joy to care for, and I’m so grateful to be part of his routine for walks, grooming, and house sitting. Hearing that I’m one of his favorite people? 🥹 That’s what it’s all about. 💕

We had a lovely time staying with the hilarious Monty. He is too smart for his own good, and just as cuddly! We went on an adventure to Bunnings and a big walk over some steep hills close to home 😅

Rain-jackets ahoy! Still facing the spring rains, some weeks have been so up and down haven't they?! Spy Beau, Mocha, Charlie, Ted, and Maisy wrapping up warm. It was a good week to have a wooly coat, that's for sure!

Little Kiki has been coming in every week this month for our puppy package! And oh my how she has grown. Every week she gets a bath, brush, and over the 4 sessions we get to slowly introduce the grooming tools and processes, so she gets lots of exposure to the weird sounds and feelings, and gets used to it all while she is in prime-socialisation age!

I got to see our cutie friend Poppy (aka Pop-star) before they moved cities. She's such a spunky little character, and a very good walker. Keen for a sniff around, and really sticks with you. Miss you Popstar!

DID YOU KNOW... you can learn to do CPR for cats and dogs? Yes, you read that right. We are proud to hold Pet First Aid certificates after completing/renewing the course earlier this year in June. Highly recommend doing this course if you have a pet - and we do not advise performing CPR without training.

We were lucky enough to stay with one of our most snuggly groomees recently, Scout! Unsurprisingly she is just as excited to see us and still very cuddly at home, so we had a lovely weekend. Scout loved joining us for some exploration of the neighbourhood, and chilling out for some coffee too - ☕ for me, not for her 😜

You can see Brett partaking in one of his favourite past-times with our little friends - running up hill... No, I don't get it either! But the doggies seem to love the little dashes 🥰

Mica & Arlo in for a lovely spring clean up. They're such delightful little pups. Would you believe that Arlo was even smaller when we first met him (as a puppy). So much hair comes flying off these guys with the HV dryer - the walls were practically black!

Really satisfying seeing how shiny their coats were afterwards... I was so blown away, I forgot to take after pictures!
