Before and after.
Almost looks like this poor dude had his foot burned.. Every toe was covered in peeling scabs and bleeding a little from the raw skin. Took the raw skin a little while to calm down, but once it did, pidge stopped limping and was much happier, in the meantime they were very appreciative of pain killers ! 😊

Very nasty string injury..
Thin plastic thread cut very very deep into this big beautiful pigeons leg.

Rescued by Tessa who did a fantastic job catching and containing him in a shopping basket !

Had someone not seen this bird hurting, and cared enough to go ahead to catch them and find them help,, he would have slowly and very painfully, lost his entire foot AND ankle and part of the lower leg...

This is obviously very painful, puts him at risk for infection, and then if he made it through that and the foot amputates, he gets to still be in pain for the rest of his life walking on a stump, and dealing with the difficulty of walking on legs that are different heights, and for a bird that spends so much time walking around, what an awful life that must be..

So, so, SO glad we could help fix him up !

Before and after. You see how deeply the string has cut into their foot?
It has already cut a good part of the way through their foot from the pressure.
Considering there is no thickened yellow dying skin, they haven’t been like this for toooo too long, but yet the damage had already started.
This is how our street pigeons lose toes and end up with a stump. You can imagine what will happen if the string is not removed..
This very lucky pidge is no longer in pain, and will heal up nicely ! πŸ₯°

Before and after.
I have personally fixed up this bird β€˜BuddyBird’ - approximately FOUR 4 (?) times now, both from string injury, and for baths to remove grease.
(They're easily indentified by their funny stump foot, and when I first found them, they still had one toe remaining on the stump side!)
I assume, they must sleep very close to a greasy restaurant vent or something, trying to stay warm and safe.
Another week or so, and they'd be so covered in grease, they wouldn't be able to fly anymore.
They were also clearly feeling miserable from of the amount of greasy crud Ingested while trying to preen it off of their feathers.
They're a MUCH MUCH Happier buddy bird now !

Pigeon hand-cuffs. Black plastic dental floss / twine. impossible for the bird to remove themselves. Very difficult to walk, and a huge hazard for getting caught on other things the bird lands on.
Luckily freed from their "Unlawful arrest"

Here is a pretty nasty example of the damage that is constantly being caused to these birds via the trash tourniquets that are string-foot injuries...

This is why I do what I do, this bird does not deserve to be in so much pain, just from living it's normal life, because we are terrible with trash.

Fun fact, city pigeons are actually domesticated, "Columba Livia Domestica" And that is why they gravitate to people and their trash, that's all they know.

Before and after de-stringing, removing tightly wrapped, discarded human hair, from the inevitable cutting off circulation of pigeon toes and feet, which is obviously very painful.

Before, and during.
This pretty little pigeon, from the Wgtn Train Station flock, has a very bad case of 'string-foot' with both feet badly affected, and will need a few more days of rest to help the healing process quicken.
Then they will be released straight back to their flock to continue their pigeon life. I wonder if they tell their friends they were abducted by aliens ...? :p

Before +After !
Pigeon, from Cuba Street, was limping very badly and black string had started cutting into the skin, luckily this bird was found nice and early before any digits lost blood circulation. Lucky bird has string removed on street and was immediately released back to flock. πŸ•ŠοΈβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή
