Cash and Moose did their first ever Comp Obedience rounds today at the Avalon Champ Test.

Steph and Moose entered Beginners and definitely didn’t disappoint! Very new to comp (having done RallyO until now), they did a lovely round. Special mention of Steph’s lovely footwork!

Then Steph entered Cash in Intro New Handler and Elementary (having really only come along for the ride) and he did a beautiful job! They even came away with a 2nd place in Intro New Handler!

Great work team! Looking forward to getting into serious training with them both now! Both dogs will be a force to reckon with down the track!

Wow! In only their second comp in Novice (and they trained the first one) Donna and Tui win Novice on 97 points at the Avalon Champ Test! Amazing work!

Stanley was back in the ring for the first time in a year and did a beautiful training round in Test B.

And awesome to have our new comp team members Remiel and Toni attending all morning, watching and socialising their dogs to the environment! These guys will be in the ring before we know it!

Please be aware of Karaka Tree seeds on our clubgrounds (dropped by our naughty resident Kereru and possible our many Kaka's). We don't have Karaka trees near or on the grounds, but the birds transmit the seeds and drop them on our grounds from their perches above.

There are pictures posted around our grounds to show you what the seeds look like. Karaka seeds are very toxic to dogs. The trainers do a sweep of the grounds before every class, but in case one gets missed, please be vigilant.

Here is a link to known Karaka trees around the city, to watch out for when walking your dogs. If you see a tree, you can add it to this map.

We’re making it easier for dog owners to stay safe. Our open-source map highlights where karaka trees are located across New Zealand, so you can plan your walks with peace of mind.

Ted and Stanley had a successful weekend last weekend at the Tararua Rally Champ Test with Ted being the star of the show!

Ted got a 2nd and 2 x 3rds, but more importantly got his third Advanced/Excellent pair towards his RAE qualification (needs 10 pairs). Both on 100/100 points even! He also qualified in Encore (I mucked up the second one and put the lead in my pocket and not on the chair 🥲).

Stanley qualified in both Encores and all 3 x Advanced, very narrowly missing one of his Excellents.

Good boys Ted and Stan. Good luck to the team this weekend at the Horowhenua Champ Test (Comp and RallyO)!

Last Wednesday night was the Christmas breakup for the WCOC Comp and RallyO Teams.

We combined the classes and everyone competed in the RallyO relay and had a go on the Agility course. Highlight of the night however was definitely the recall past the sausage (thanks to Karl and his culinary BBQ skills!). So much fun had by all!

Thanks for an awesome year Team! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and see you all beginning of February 😍

So very very true ❤️🐾🐾

It’s easy to become fixated on shaping your dog into what you might consider the "perfect" companion. But don’t lose sight of the fact that they are already perfect just as they are—simply for being themselves.

Training and development are valuable for improving skills and addressing challenges, but these should always be approached as a way to strengthen your bond, not as a pursuit of flawlessness. Celebrate your dog’s individuality, quirks, and all the things that make them unique.

Work on smoothing the rough edges and refining behaviours, but remember: your dog doesn’t need to be perfect to be loved—they’re already perfect to you.

Simple exercise to work on an issue we get asked about a lot in domestic training - jumping up on owners or visitors at the door. Obviously, you can also do this with a knock at the door. The younger you start it the better, but as with any training, it’s never too late!
