Meet Whisky - our stunning 2 year old Huntaway X.

Her former owners did everything they could to manage her chronic and severe skin condition, but eventually made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her so she could have the chance at a healthier, more comfortable life.

Whisky has the most beautiful nature. She’s gentle, affectionate, and absolutely loves people - including children. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, is great with cats, and truly just wants to please. She is one of those dogs who instantly wins hearts without even trying.

Since coming into our care, we’ve already made significant progress. We’ve successfully treated the fungal aspect of her condition, which had left her skin red, flaking, bleeding in places, and carrying an unpleasant smell. After a full veterinary work up, hypothyroidism has been ruled out, so our focus now shifts to healing her body from the inside out - beginning with her gut health.

As you can see in the photos, Whisky’s coat is thin in several areas, with patchy bald spots under her front legs, on her neck, chest, abdomen, and back. Her skin is also dry with slight redness on her chest and neck, while the skin on her abdomen is thicker and has a tough, leather-like texture.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have Go Raw Pet Food NZ partnering with us to support Whisky’s recovery. Go Raw believes that pets thrive when fed the way nature intended. Their raw dog and cat food is made from high-quality New Zealand sourced ingredients and is designed to meet each animal’s natural nutritional needs. They have generously agreed to fully support Whisky’s raw feeding journey at no cost, and we are beyond grateful!

Healing takes time, and meaningful dietary change doesn’t happen overnight. Whisky has now begun Month 1 of her specialised feeding plan, designed to soothe inflammation, repair her gut, and set the foundation for long-term skin and immune health. Here’s her feeding plan:

This phase keeps her diet simple, gentle, and highly targeted.

Morning:
- 300g Veal Tongue & Spleen Roll.
- 1 × Salmon Roe Cube.
- 50ml Probiotic.
- Raw Bone (every 2–3 days).

Evening:
- 300g Veal Tongue & Spleen Roll.
- 1 × Wild Organ Cube.
- 1 × Salmon Roe Cube.

For this first month, Whisky will receive extra Salmon Roe - one cube in the morning and one in the evening - for added anti-inflammatory support.

Why This Diet Works:

Veal Tongue & Spleen Roll...
- Gentle, low-reactive protein ideal for sensitive skin.
- Easy to digest.
- Spleen offers natural multivitamin support (iron, B-vitamins, antioxidants).
- Tongue provides rich, nourishing muscle meat.

Salmon Roe...
- A powerful natural source of omega-3s.
- Reduces inflammation.
- Supports skin repair and coat health.
- More bioavailable than traditional fish oil.
- Highly effective for chronic skin issues.

Wild Organ Cube...
- Provides essential vitamins and minerals.
- Supports skin, immune function, and overall vitality.
- Nutrient dense without adding complex proteins.

Probiotic...
- Helps restore healthy gut bacteria.
- Reduces internal inflammation.
- Supports immunity.
- Safe even with slight over-measurement.

Raw Bone...
- Naturally cleans teeth.
- Strengthens jaw.
- Provides calcium.
- Offers mental stimulation and enrichment.

Whisky’s journey back to health has only just begun, but with her sweet temperament, gentle soul, and the support of Go Raw Pet Food NZ - we know she’s on the right path. This sweet girl has so much love to share, and we can’t wait to see her thrive.

Follow along for Whisky Wednesdays on our social media starting next week!

Rally for a Rescue Pup - We Need Your Help After Today’s URGENT Surgery!

Meet our gorgeous 5 week old, Green Collar, Heading Dog X puppy.

Today he needed urgent surgery after his umbilical hernia began sliding in and out of place and suddenly grew in size. It was causing him real discomfort, and he was no longer his usual happy, bouncy self. The vet determined the surgery couldn’t wait, so he had it repaired immediately.

Now we’re asking for your help to cover his $400 vet bill. Every dollar truly makes a difference, and if you’re unable to donate, a simple share can help more than you know - https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/rally-for-a-rescue-pup-we-need-your-help

Thank you for supporting this little fighter ❤

URGENT TREATMENT REQUIRED - PLEASE HELP!

Meet Kenya, a lively 7 month old puppy rescued from the pound. She adores people and is full of energy, but her eyes are causing her constant discomfort. She’s always squinting, rubbing her face, and dealing with discharge from conjunctivitis.

After a full vet assessment, we finally have answers: Kenya requires bilateral lower lid entropion surgery which costs $1,919. This procedure would transform her day to day life and let her enjoy her puppyhood the way she deserves.

Now we just need your help to make it happen. With your support, we can give Kenya the comfort, relief, and bright future she’s been waiting for.

Every donation on givealittle truly makes a difference. And, if you’re not in a position to give, sharing her story is incredible:

🚨 STAN NEEDS AN URGENT UNICORN FOSTER - are you the one?! 🚨

This handsome boy is a 7 month old, 30kg, Staffy X bursting with potential. He just needs a foster home that can give him the right environment to thrive.

He's loyal, playful, affectionate, and so much more...

His ideal match would be an experienced dog handler with:

- Someone home 24/7 to support him while he learns to feel safe.
- No young children.
- No small animals (including cats), or have the ability to keep them completely separated.
- A stable, calm adult dog (if any).
- A quiet, low-traffic household with very few visitors.
- A willingness to crate train.
- The time to work with us and a trainer on his severe separation anxiety, general obedience, and manners.

And who's...
- Comfortable managing his fear reactivity during introductions - men in high-viz clothing are a known trigger.

What we provide:
- All necessary supplies (food, crate, bedding, etc.)
- The veterinary care is fully covered by us.
- Ongoing support, guidance and training throughout your foster journey.

If you can help Stan, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH IMMEDIATELY. He's so deserving of that unicorn foster home - https://airtable.com/appcjM7BOAsx7POtc/shrNVX5o64iwdUbUJ

If you're searching for a dog who's always up for a run, keen for weekend tramps, and everything in between, look no further - Blue is your guy.

Good with dogs: Yes.
Good with cats: Unknown.
Good with stock: Natural herding instincts with cattle.
Good with children: Yes.

Blue's foster writes:

Blue is a stunning 4 year old Australian Cattle Dog x Border Collie, and he's every bit as awesome as he sounds. He smart, ENERGETIC, and happiest when his mind and body are kept busy.

Blue is learning basic obedience, progressing well with toilet training, sleeps in a crate at night, and absolutely loves people.

A social butterfly, Blue gets on great with other dogs and never turns down a good play session.

On the farm, he's completely in his element - running alongside the bike and showing impressive natural herding instincts with cattle. With the right training, he could become an amazing addition to a small lifestyle block.

And did we mention his coat? A gorgeous blue-grey, paired with a smile that'll instantly brighten your day.

If you're ready for a loyal, active companion who'll join you on all of life's adventures, Blue can't wait to meet you.

Spot is a gorgeous, 12 year old, female, Miniature Foxy.

Good with dogs: Yes.
Good with cats: Unknown.
Good with children: Yes.
Alone time: 4 - 6 hours.
Energy level: Medium.

Spot's foster writes:

Spot has a naturally happy personality, full of warmth and gentle affection, and carries a calm, easygoing presence wherever she goes. She loves to please the people around her, always eager to show her best manners and follow along with a wagging tail. Spot has a bright, attentive nature, and like all dogs, she responds beautifully to positive reinforcement. Spot is the sweetest little companion who is very easy going.

Spot is a well socialised dog who loves meeting new people and happily greets them with a wagging tail. She walks beautifully on the lead, staying calm and polite even when passing other dogs, and her friendly nature shines through. Like many dogs, however, Spot can resource guard when other dogs are nearby during her mealtime, but with her otherwise steady temperament and positive social skills, she continues to show what a loving and well mannered companion she is.

It’s not known whether Spot has had any formal training, but she is clearly a well-trained dog. She listens attentively, follows basic cues such as sit, stay, and here and walks politely on the lead without pulling. With some work to do on her recall, Spot has a calm behaviour in new situations, and has the ability to settle when needed. Spot is a very gentle and well-mannered dog.

Spot really enjoys the company of people around her, but she can also be left on her own for periods at a time. She is generally content as long as she has had a good run around beforehand. She would suit being the only dog in the home, but she can also happily share her space with older, calmer dogs who match her relaxed energy.
