Emails like this make all the hard work so worth it!

'We recently adopted our adorable Bear the Blue Heeler Puppy from Chance 4 Change, and we couldn't be happier with the experience!'

'From the moment we contacted Chance 4 Change we were impressed by their professionalism and genuine care and passion about matching Dogs up for adoption with the right families.'

We know it’s hard to control yourself when you see a dog in public (well, it is for us at least). However, it’s important to note that not all dogs are the same and some like their space.

Here’s some safety tips that will help your children to stay dog safe:

🐕 Check it’s sweet before you meet. Ask permission from the owner before going up to a dog.

🐕 Chin or chest that’s the best. After permission is given, stroke only the chin, chest or shoulders and remember to be gentle.

🐕 To meet a pup – ask a grown up. Ask an adult before cuddling a pup. Mother dogs are naturally protective.

🐕 If a dog has a snack, keep well back. Stay away from a dog that is eating or has a bone. They can be quite protective.

🐕 Keep your face – out of their space. Never kiss or put your face down close to a dog’s face.

🐕 Don’t run and shout – it freaks them out. Dogs react to the way we behave, if you shout or run, they may chase you.

🐕 A dog’s not a toy – don’t tease or annoy. Dogs can only tell us to stop by walking away, growling or they may occasionally bite.

🐕 Quiet and slow – is the way to go. If you’re scared of dogs, move away slowly. Don’t run as they might think it’s a game.

Their mum was a wondering stray...

It breaks our heart to know that she gave birth outside, and alone...

Thank goodness for the team at Tararua District Council! They rescued this vulnerable family, providing them with a safe temporary home.

We hate to think what would have happened otherwise...

AFTER THEIR ROUGH START TO LIFE, THESE PUPPIES DESERVE THE VERY BEST NAMES! CAN YOU HELP?

Their fosters write:

Photo 1: Blue collar (male) - A playful and affectionate pup who's the perfect mix of energy and cuddles. He loves to roughhouse and play and is always ready for fun. He adores his big foster dog sister, following her around and learning the ropes. After a short stint of play, he's happy to settle in for a nap, snuggling up close.

Photo 2: Pink collar (female) - This wee girl is the daintiest of the litter. She is adorable, affectionate and gentle. Despite being a little timid of new sounds and experiences, once she gains her confidence she is right in there with her siblings. She absolutely loved her puppy cuddles at The Brewtown Market!

Photo 3: Red collar (female) - The most confident and outgoing of her siblings. She is a real foodie but her meals never last long... Her favourite activity is playing with the neighbours children. There's nothing better than fun, running and cuddles.

Photo 4: Green collar (male) - A friendly and snuggly pup who's always ready for fun. Often the first to start a game. He adores his big foster dog sister, sticking close to her and joining in all her antics. He loves human contact and craves attention.

Photo 5: Black collar (male) - This handsome boy is the perfect mix of fun-loving and cuddly. He is holding his own amongst his sisters and loving the rough and tumble of play. He's confident, intelligent and enjoys playing with children.

Luna and Bella are still looking for their forever homes...

Their fosters write:

Luna (photo 1) is a sweet and affectionate, 10 week old, female, Rottweiler X Huntaway X Heading Dog.

Good with dogs: YES.
Good with cats: YES.
Good with stock: UNKNOWN.
Good with children: YES.

Luna knows how to relax. She will nuzzle into your lap for cuddles and naps. She loves soft beds, blankets and stuffed toys. She also enjoys playing with toys and playfights with her sister. She can be a little bit timid with young children and rough plays, but she seems to have her way with anyone and any animal willing to cuddle, and she can certainly hold her ground and puppy wrestle her heart out.

She is happy to chill in her crate or playpen, and is a good sleeper. She is doing well with toilet training and let us know when she needs to be let out of crate to go toilet.

Ideal home: Active household with cozy nooks

----------------------------------------------

Bella (photo 2) is a curious, affectionate and obedient, 10 week old, female, Rottweiler X Huntaway X Heading Dog.

Good with dogs: YES.
Good with cats: UNKNOWN.
Good with stock: YES.
Good with children: YES.

Bella’s foster writes:

Personality: Bella has an inquisitive, playful soul. She loves to eat and play.

Enjoyed activities: Bella enjoys large spaces to roam and play about. She enjoys playing with stuffed toys, ropes and shoes. Bella loves to play and play fight with her sister and other dogs. She isn’t a big fan of car rides unless she can see you.

Sociability: Bella has experience around small and large dogs. She is great around children but sometimes tries to rough play with them. Bella has experience around toddlers and primary school children. Initially, Bella is a little timid around new places, dogs and people, but warms up very quickly.

Training: Bella is great at following/walking right by your side. She is great at taking herself to her bed or crate to sleep. Bella is doing well with toilet training at night, letting us know when she needs to be let out of her crate to go toilet. During the day, she needs regular
support to go toilet outside. Bella can sit on command and responds well to “good girl”.

Energy: Bella needs opportunities throughout the day to use up her energy, after that, she will cuddle up and sleep.

Ideal home: A loving whanau/family, active household with space and nooks to play in.

Very excited to have designed and donated a new pull up banner to Chance 4 Change promoting their adoption puppers. Based around what we envisage Koda would have looked like as a puppy, she was there to greet me when I dropped it off : ))

So if your around the markets over the chilly winter months keep an eye out for a warm cuddle, and maybe (if your lucky) some puppy kisses 🧡

Molly is a beautiful, 6 year old, female, Labrador X Malamute.

Good with dogs: YES.
Good with cats: NO.
Good with stock: NO.
Good with chickens: NO.
Good with children: YES.

Molly's foster writes:

Molly is incredibly affectionate. She loves snuggles and getting up in your face for a kiss!

Molly bonds strongly with her owner. We've been told that she will follow you around the house, ensuring you are OK.

While Molly has grown up with other dogs and loves their company, she's also content as an only dog.

Molly loves life and her favourite things are:

Walks on lead.
Zoomies at the dog park.
Car rides.
Food.
Affection.

Despite being 6 years old, Molly is still agile and can jump low fences. This means a home with higher fences is best.

Molly struggles with loud noises. These cause slight panic attacks, which are fixed with rescue remedy and reassurance.

Molly is looking for a family who will love her as much as she will love them!

Times are tough and people are struggling to find pet friendly rentals. This has lead to an increase in surrender requests. Unfortunately, like most rescues in New Zealand we are nearing capacity.

Thanks to our incredibly dedicated foster network, we were able to squeeze in 4x, 6 week old puppies.

While they're absolutely thriving in foster care, THEY REALLY NEED NAMES!

Their foster writes:

Photo 1: This sweet boy will melt your heart. He loves nothing more than nestling in for a cuddle on the couch.

Photo 2: This affectionate and gentle girl is the runt of the litter. Despite being small, her adorable personality makes up for it in spades!

Puppy 3: This handsome boy loves 2 things... people and play! He's incredibly social and likes to check in with his human when scary noises frighten him.

Puppy 4: This brave and happy little munchkin is the ultimate family dog. She's loyal, playful and adores children.

It's time to introduce the wonderful people behind our camera's!

Let's meet Storm...

Storm has been doing photography since 2013 when they fell in love with the art form at the National Scout Photography School. They grew up with a family dog, but found their passion for working with dogs while studying for their Bachelors degree in Kansas, USA. It was during this time that they got their first job working with dogs, doing part time work at the local kennel. This, along with doing dog walking in their spare time, is what drew them to start their own business as a dog photographer.

After graduating in 2021, Storm came back home to Wellington. Since then they have been working at various doggy day cares, doing house/dog sitting and dog walking. It's been during this time that Storm has been building Storm's Furtography, their dog portraiture business!

At Chance 4 Change, we are super grateful to Storm for helping us capture the beautiful personalities of our Wellington and Hutt based rescues. If you want to check out their work or book a photoshoot for your dog, you can find them on Instagram .

It's time to introduce our newest intakes...

Their fosters write:

Photo 1: Purple collar (female) - Meet your new best friend! This adorable, intelligent girl is ready to steal your heart. With her soft, fluffy fur and quick learning abilities, she's the perfect addition to any family. Already mastering basic commands like sitting, she's proving to be a star pupil. Her calm demeanor in noisy environments and affectionate nature with people make her a joy to be around. While she's of a high-energy breed, her loyalty and love know no bounds. She's longing for a forever home that will nurture her intelligence and provide outlets for her boundless energy.

Photo 2: Green collar (male) - Meet the ultimate bundle of joy. He's our very own energizer bunny! This dynamic pup is a whirlwind of high-energy fun, but don't let that fool you; he's also a pro at cozy cuddle sessions once he's all tuckered out. This pup thrives on activity and stimulation, making him the perfect companion for an active household ready for exciting adventures. If you're seeking a furry friend to keep up with your lively lifestyle and shower you with unconditional love, look no further.

Photo 3: Black collar (girl) - This gorgeous girl is a playful yet mischievous bundle of fur. She is strong minded and determined to have everything she isn't allowed. This includes the cats food and the entire families socks. She is incredibly intelligent and loves to play. Like most working breeds, she's acing basic obedience and is eager to please. Despite being a high energy pup, our black collar girl has a real affectionate side. She loves to cuddle on the couch or bed when the cat isn't around.

Photo 4: Pink collar (girl) - She is playful and curious about the world around her. Her favourite activities are playing chase and investigating the many smells in the front yard. But like her sister, there's a strong minded and determined side. She is incredibly intelligent and will thrive with ongoing obedience training. At the end of a fun filled day, she loves to snuggle up on the couch with her sister or foster family.

These puppies are almost ready for adoption, but first they need names...
