Boofheads first "street walk".
I've been posting a bit of stuff in my "stories" over the last few days about this boy that's on trial with me at the moment. If you've been following along, I mentioned that despite him being in my care for nearly 4 weeks, I still haven't taken him on a walk around my suburb on a short lead.
Why?
Because he sucks at it.... and I don't want him to continue to rehearse that general suckiness.
So tonight, we went out on the flexi leash.... (The local dog lovers Facebook group experts are wincing already 😂).
We spent 90% of the walk being a (controlled and legal) lunatic. And 10% practicing basic obedience skills, and 100% building a good association with the leash that involves 0% dragging me around. 200% GOOD BOY
How did we get here?
Building a communication system (markers for yes and no)
Teaching the fundamentals of what he *should* be doing when he feels leash pressure.
Using these skills to teach: a snappy af recall (not a shake treat bag bribe leveraged on hopes and dreams). Sit & down cues. A "chill" mode. And a heel cue that is coming along pretty nice in new environments for 2 days training.
It's a pretty cool feeling to have a another fresh dog to implement the whole training system I teach to people and have it create a dog that is fun to be around, and doesn't just stomp down all his spicy genetics. It's my goal for every person I work with to get this feeling that I get from taking this dog out for a mission tonight.
Really really hyped to run my Reset Your Relationship boot camp next weekend 🤙🐺👌
