The Hound Way

The Hound Way Dog Training and Pack Walking in Wellington, NZ I love helping people understand their dogs and create stronger bonds through play and clear communication.

If you and your dog are struggling with 'problem' behaviours, or you just want to build a good relationship with your dog - I can help. My philosophy in training is that there is no 'one-size-fits-all' way to train a dog - each one is an individual and needs to be treated as such. The end goal is creating a happy and fulfilled dog.

REHOME

I am looking for a new home for a clients dog. He is an approx 1 year old Poodle X.
He is a lovely dog to have around the house. Very affectionate. Loves his familiar social circle. Really good with my 2.5 year old son. Great with other dogs.

He has some quirks - nothing dangerous - just things to be aware of which can be disclosed to genuinely interested people.

His current family have a genuine reason for rehoming. They have done a great job raising him so far and are reluctantly trying to find a more suitable home.

If you are interested in having him on a trial, get in touch via email ([email protected]) and we can discuss.

Preference given to people in the greater Wellington region as I will provide a full hand over and follow up support to ensure he can succeed in any potential new home.

We are still on holiday, but excited to get back into pack walking from Tuesday 14th Jan.

I'll be responding to training enquiry emails over the next day or so too. 🐺

If you're interested, I'm starting a new pack for all breeds of dogs in the Kapiti Coast area on a Monday.
This will be a package that will include a pack walk, training and structured social time - as well as a complimentary one on one training session with you as an owner, to pass on the skills your dog has learnt while out with me.

If you're based in Kapiti and want to get your dog involved, get in touch for more info. Or if you know someone in kapiti who's dog needs this - tag em.

🐺 See ya soon

A few of you have met Tony while he was with me, and others have followed a bit of our shenanigans on social media.

He will probably be "the one that got away" for me, but damn he is going to love sniffing out stuff for a job. Corrections taking on this epic lad has been the best Christmas present i could have asked for.

Shout outs to the team at Animal Services who trusted me with his care and training stuff. They really understand dogs and their temperament testing is what's keeping the right dogs in the right homes.

Go kick some arse, Tony πŸ˜ŽπŸ€™

Lots of our adoptions have been wrapped up lately (pun intended!), one in particular has stood out.

Our mate Tony, who wasn't suited for normal pet life due to being a bit of a boof-head with a lot of drive, has headed off to work for the Corrections NZ this week. They were blown away by his temperament and play drive. Fingers crossed he'll be a great addition to their team!

This would not have been at all possible without the help of Luke from The Hound Way who has taught Tony some life skills and how to harness his drive for his new found working life over the past few months.

Tony is still to be renamed with something a little bit more... sturdy... for his new life. Go well Tony!

Quite a few folks have met Tony on our travels while he's been in my care. He needs his proper forever family now, and I'm happy to help out whoever that might be.
If you've met Tony and want him to be yours, fill out the form on this shared post. If you've met Tony and just wanna tell people how cool he is, you should jump on the AS post and leave a comment πŸ˜‰ ps please excuse the terrible audio and editing on my video.... I have nfi what I'm doing πŸ™ƒ

Boofheads first "street walk".

I've been posting a bit of stuff in my "stories" over the last few days about this boy that's on trial with me at the moment. If you've been following along, I mentioned that despite him being in my care for nearly 4 weeks, I still haven't taken him on a walk around my suburb on a short lead.
Why?
Because he sucks at it.... and I don't want him to continue to rehearse that general suckiness.

So tonight, we went out on the flexi leash.... (The local dog lovers Facebook group experts are wincing already πŸ˜‚).
We spent 90% of the walk being a (controlled and legal) lunatic. And 10% practicing basic obedience skills, and 100% building a good association with the leash that involves 0% dragging me around. 200% GOOD BOY

How did we get here?
Building a communication system (markers for yes and no)
Teaching the fundamentals of what he *should* be doing when he feels leash pressure.
Using these skills to teach: a snappy af recall (not a shake treat bag bribe leveraged on hopes and dreams). Sit & down cues. A "chill" mode. And a heel cue that is coming along pretty nice in new environments for 2 days training.

It's a pretty cool feeling to have a another fresh dog to implement the whole training system I teach to people and have it create a dog that is fun to be around, and doesn't just stomp down all his spicy genetics. It's my goal for every person I work with to get this feeling that I get from taking this dog out for a mission tonight.

Really really hyped to run my Reset Your Relationship boot camp next weekend πŸ€™πŸΊπŸ‘Œ
