This tiny little female kitten was successfully rescued from Brewtown Upper Hutt overnight after several members of the public sighted her running around eating whatever scraps she could find over the weekend.

Being offered several lots of information, alongside talking with the manager of Fermented Brewery, Bar and Eatery - Upper Hutt, and the incredibly supportive general manager of Brewtown, Phil Gorman, I was able to act quickly enough to catch this kitten 💪 A big thank you to Phil for both contacting me and giving our rescue a kind donation. Team work makes the dream work!

This little girl is barely 8 weeks old and skin and bone - far too young to be homeless and alone.

This wee one was seen midday today and it seems a rather strange place for a little kitten to be 🤷‍♀️

💚 BO AND LUKE 💙

Meet Bo & Luke: The 13 week old Dynamic Duo ready to steal your heart! ⭐

Bo (Tabby) and Luke (Tabby & White) are two adorable brothers who are looking for their forever home — preferably together! ;) These lovable and playful felines have been raised in a loving foster home, where they’ve spent their days playing, snuggling, and spreading joy.

Bo may be a little smaller, but what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in personality! He’s a curious, purring machine who loves nothing more than to curl up near his favorite humans. His soft, plush coat makes snuggling with him a dream, and his lightning-fast reflexes make him a champion at playtime and cleaning sessions with his brother.

Luke, with his classic tabby-and-white coat and adorable pink nose, is the more laid-back of the two. He loves to flop down next to you for a good petting session, and his sweet little toe beans will melt your heart. He’s also no slouch when it comes to playtime and can easily keep up with Bo in their energetic games!

Both boys are super sociable, good with dogs, and fantastic around small children. They’ve been raised in a home with both, so they’re well-adjusted to all types of environments. These brothers share an unbreakable bond and love to engage in playful wrestling matches — it’s the cutest thing to watch!

Why adopt just one when you can have two?! Bo and Luke would love to be adopted together and will bring double the love, laughter, and companionship to your home. If you’re ready for double the fun and double the cuddles, these two are the perfect pair for you!

Fostered in Island Bay, Wellington. If you'd like to meet these boys please fill in our adoption application form here: https://form.jotform.com/240831194278056

💲350 Adoption Fee includes desex, 1st vaccine (booster needed), microchip + registration, flea & wormed, house & litter trained.

🧡 💜 PLUTO AND ASH 🩷 💚

4 month old sister siblings - The bonded pair for you 💕

Pluto (Medium Haired Grey & White Tabby) is an incredibly cuddly and affectionate furball. Initially shy, she soon blossoms into an adventurous explorer, always eager to investigate her surroundings.

Her favourite toys are string and catnip, which she delights in pouncing on with glee. With her big, googly green eyes, she has a charming knack for bending the rules. Playfighting with her sister brings her endless joy, and while she possesses a calm demeanor, her d***y antics are often hilarious. Pluto has an amusing habit of attempting to push items off tables, and during winter, you might catch her licking condensation from cups or even windows! 😅

Food is her ultimate love, especially wet varieties and duck and chicken-flavored Temptations. She yearns to be close to her humans, constantly seeking out affection and relishing in gentle touches, particularly loving those delightful butt scratches. When she’s caught in the act of mischief, she might feign deafness to your gentle reprimands—such a cheeky little thing! A cozy cuddle and some scritches are her idea of bliss, and she has been known to sneak away Ash's treats. Forehead kisses? Absolutely her favourite!

Ash (Shorthaired Shadow Black / Grey), on the other hand, tends to be a bit more reserved, especially in the beginning. Ever the protective sister, she keeps a watchful eye on Pluto. Her favorite activities include playful tussles with her sister, and she has a particular fondness for spring toys, string toys, and catnip. She enjoys grooming her humans head which can be quite an experience, as she takes it upon herself to show her affection by climbing onto you to get a better spot. 😅

Ash expresses her love through slow blinks from a distance, but she does enjoy snuggling occasionally. Generally well-behaved, she responds to a sharp hiss and usually understands when it's time to stop her playful antics. Although she doesn't care to be picked up, she surprises you with sweet kisses—forehead kisses, particularly, though those are reserved for moments when she boops your nose.

Temptation Treats are her weakness, and both sisters have a mischievous habit of trying to snag bites of your food. We've given them some unsalted boiled eggs and meat, which they absolutely adore. While Ash is usually obedient and will stop, Pluto’s mischievous streak often leads her to press her luck, but she’ll ultimately relent when the treats run out!

These girls are fostered in Brooklyn, Wellington. If you'd like to meet them please fill in our adoption application form here: https://form.jotform.com/240831194278056

💲350 Adoption Fee includes desex, 1st vaccine (booster needed), microchip + registration, flea & wormed, house & litter trained.

Meet Bean 🫘 A very special little girl. 💕

Bean is one of many special kittens in our care that requires extra attention. As you can see she is teeny tiny for her age, approx 7 weeks old.

She is also one of many with genetic deformities this season - Beanie is our 3rd kitten born with Funnel Chest Syndrome, also known as Pectus Excavatum. It is a rare, congenital condition in cats that causes a sunken chest wall. It's a deformity of the sternum and rib cage that occurs during fetal development.

We are keeping a close eye with regular vet visits for Beanie to watch how she progresses as she grows. Her recently rescued sister Crouton may have the same syndrome, but we'll confirm at the vet next week.

Our previous 2 kittens with the same syndrome heartbreakingly did not survive. We are hopeful for Bean 🤞

These kittens and their Mumma were discarded in a cardboard box on the side of the road in Porirua 💔 😡 Mumma Cat was bewildered and the kittens were just newborns with their eyes still closed.

Thankfully the right person found them, and the kind gentleman took them in. He's been caring for them for several weeks before contacting me for help.

All sponsored! Thank you Kath and Dawn :) Susie is Tortie, Onyx the Black and Theo the Tabby.

ADOPTED!! ❤️ MR BEAUDIE 🎀

Meet Beaudie, a charming little guy with a heart of gold!

At first glance, he may seem a bit shy, but once he warms up, he transforms into the sweetest companion you could ever hope for. You’ll often find him basking in the sun, cozied up on the couch, or energetically chasing his favourite ping pong balls around the room.

This little ball of energy is playful, vibrant, and ready to fill your home with joy! After receiving some much deserved TLC from being an abandoned stray, Beaudie is on the lookout for his forever family.

While he's a bit timid around dogs, he gets along splendidly with cats and would thrive in a home with older kids who can give him the space to bloom. Once he gets to know you, his confidence shines through, revealing a delightful personality that's just waiting to be discovered.

Come meet Beaudie today and let him show you the love he has to offer! 😊 Approx 6/7 months old, he is currently being fostered in Greytown, Wairarapa, if you'd like to meet him please fill in our adoption application form here: https://form.jotform.com/240831194278056

I wrote and shared this 3 years ago, and sadly, nothing has changed 💔 If anything it's now much worse with horrifying genetic mutations intensifying every year.

It's that time of year where "free kittens" are blowing up on Facebook 😨 If you take in a free cat, be prepared for costly vet bills and the high probability of an unwell cat.

Be careful what you rescue. The last "free" cat KCR took in we spent upwards of $1500.

Frank had a parrot jaw, severe periodontitis, giardia & rotten insides (the vet said this was mostly due to a cheap supermarket diet - Pams, Value, Select etc) and was covered in fleas and worms. He was just 6 months old.

His "owner" left him behind, the flatmate was advertising him online and if we hadn't taken him in goodness knows what state he would've got to, let alone the unsuspecting person/s who would have taken him in.

So PLEASE be careful what "free" cats you take in. 80% of the time they are not desexed, vaccinated or microchipped. 90% of the time they are unwell with health concerns and are covered in fleas with big fat high worm burden tummies - and that's just to start. 😳 Fleas and worms can easily kill cats if left untreated, let alone what underlying problems lay dormant or hidden.

If you see people advertising free Facebook cats I highly recommend you advise them to surrender them to a rescue, the majority of us will offer to desex Mum for free in return for surrender of the kittems. From there we get them up to the standard of care they need, before desex, vaccinations, microchipping and eventual adoption. You're also welcome to work with us by doing this on our behalf.

Beware: If you take in a free Facebook cat be prepared for costly vet bills and an unwell cat.

03/01/2025

After 20 KittyCat rescues I'm almost finished at Remutaka St in Trentham. 💪 At 4.30am I caught the lucky last Mumma Cat - a seasoned Grey female with half a tail.

The bigger problem is over on Merton St, which the SPCA and I will tackle together after the 6th. And I still have to find Bobbins again - I'm hoping she's still around :(

Unfortunately this colony has introduced us to the nasty Upper Respiratory Illness - Calicivirus - which has completely upended this season, and our 2025 year ahead. Heartbreakingly, our intake is CLOSED for the unforeseen future.

Calicivirus in a shelter environment is an absolute nightmare and it has sadly ruined us. It is highly contagious and long lasting with continuous reinfections, there is no testing, no cure, a lack of medications and ongoing care and the cats who suffer with it the most may have the potential to be ongoing carriers for life 💔 And who knows who or which cats - it's a complete guessing game.

Because of this our HQ must stay in permanent isolation lockdown until the unforeseen future. We may have a few spare fosters if more step up - otherwise our intake is closed as we need to most importantly focus and commit to our 28 cats at HQ, plus the other cats affected in separate foster care.

I am absolutely exhausted from dealing with this disaster over the past 10 weeks, and until I finally get a break to get my head back together, a long term plan will soon be put in place. For now I know that we need to move a few of our HQ cats onto long-term foster homes or forever homes. These homes must have no other cats and be longterm reliable and committed. 🙏

Firstly I'd love to find somewhere for Mac and Tiger, Aphrodite and Monty (Aphro's more shy twin), Bumble, and Myla.

About Us

KittyCat Rehoming Wairarapa started in January 2017. The SPCA in the Wairarapa closed in 2015 and left a big gap in animal welfare in the area. Originally the group came into existence to rehome stray and abandoned cats, rehome cats for owners in difficult circumstances and tame feral kittens. KRW rehomed 33 cats and kittens in 2017 and 35 in 2018. Now that the SPCA in Masterton is open again and are looking after stray, abandoned and surrendered cats, KRW is concentrating on taming feral kittens and finding homes for them.

By taking in feral kittens and desexing the parents, KRW helps control the feral cat population and keep cats away from our wildlife. This decreases the feral cat population in a humane manner and not only improves the welfare of the cats, but of the environment as a whole.

Feral kittens are fostered by a network of foster carers until they can be adopted. Whether a kitten can be tamed is dependent on their age and temperament. The optimum age to tame a feral kitten is 8 weeks and under. Older kittens can be successfully tamed depending on their individual temperament but once they reach 16 weeks of age it becomes very difficult. It can take months of care before a kitten is ready to adopt.

Our adoption fee for kittens is $140. This helps cover the costs of desexing, vaccinating and treating for parasites. We also offer reduced rates to adopters for microchipping.
