Oh boy I'm sick again. :(

This time I've had severe Heartburn since Tuesday and last night I started throwing up. Doctors are useless with no appointments until the 18th so it looks like I'm pushing through it solo.

I'll be awol for a few more days as I need some time off โค๏ธ Sorry all.

Today has been a tough and interesting day to say the least.

Lacey, our latest Trentham rescue, has had a shave to remove all of the disgusting matted fur to discover she has a microchip! :O But unfortunately it's an unregistered one. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ I've emailed every local vet and will post a public found advert.

I had to make a tough decision today regarding Serger the Tom Cat :( He was very wild, FIV positive with conjunctivitis and severe pillow feet. Pillow foot is a rare but serious skin disease that causes a cat's paw pads to swell and become painful. With all of his ailments and temperament I could not give him medication - which usually answers the long-term question for me. The vet agrees it's no life to live without ongoing long-term medication, and euthanasia was for the best. ๐Ÿ’” Sorry I couldn't help you more beautiful boy Serger ๐ŸŒˆ Rest in Peace and pain free. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Trentham rescue kittens Thimble and Yoke had a vet visit as Thimble has cat flu / herpes. And their Mumma Chenille had her big vet day and is FIV/FeLV negative, yay!

Boy am I tired! It's another rainy night, and along with an early vet drop off I've taken the night off. I'm liking my makeshift rain cover ๐Ÿ˜…

Thanks to two kind and anonymous donors who are absolute life savers when I need it the most (amongst others), I have a live camera that runs on data to use for live trapping ๐Ÿ˜ It will save me an endless amount of time, money and effort driving to and from trapping locations every 1-2 hours every night. These kind people have donated so much life changing equipment, I couldn't be more grateful!

Thank you K & C. โค๏ธ I may save these kitties lives but if it weren't for you and our supporters I wouldn't be able to.

We can always use more trap covers - the more waterproof the better. I otherwise use either thin or thick fleece blankets which don't soak up much water, but I'm going to trial a water resistant picnic blanket. Tarps are no good as they're too loud, lightweight, and can scare the cats away. If anyone has any out of the box ideas I'm willing to try them!

5 successful rescues in one night! ๐Ÿ’ช

I'm stoked, lucky last of the night is Miss Lacy. She's a friendly abandoned stray covered in heavy and thick mats from head to toe ๐Ÿ˜ž

She's such a delicate wee thing. We can't wait to rehabilitate her ๐Ÿคฉ

This year, as you plan your Guy Fawkes celebrations, I invite you to consider a heartfelt alternative to fireworks.

Instead of spending on those bright bursts in the sky, why not direct your generosity towards your local animal rescue? โค๏ธ Our beloved KittyCat Headquarters is located just down the street from the local fireworks vendors on Queen St, Upper Hutt, and I canโ€™t help but feel a pang of disappointment knowing how the loud bangs can frighten and traumatize our furry friends. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Instead of contributing to the chaos that can harm and traumatize animals, your donation can truly transform lives. ๐Ÿ’ช With just a short walk to Woolworths on the same street, you can easily pick up some much-needed food and supplies for the animals in our care.

Your kindness can make a significant difference for the 50+ cats we look after, as well as the countless pets across New Zealand.

We have a public drop-off point in our shared foyer at 1/28 Queen St, where you can bring your donations. Weโ€™re open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, and on weekends from 11am to 12:30pm and 5:30pm to 7pm. Rachel's KittyCat Rescue NZ

Together, let's choose compassion and create a brighter, safer future for our beloved animals. Thank you for your support! ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

โœจ REUNION! โœจ

Beautiful lass Piper here has been missing from her home for a year! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Thanks to lovely lady Andrea contacting me about an injured cat under their house, she kindly got kitty out and quickly secured her so I could come and assess her.

Thankfully she was microchipped (microchips + registration can save lives!) and I was able to contact her over the moon owners and Piper was promptly returned home within 10 minutes. โค๏ธ

We're all stoked! Piper was only 1.2km from home. Never give up hope!

What an amazing opportunity! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ ๐Ÿคฉ Get in on it!! ๐Ÿ’ช

There are so many great reasons to desex a male cat, including:

โ€ข Prevent unwanted pregnancies:
Desexing a male cat prevents unwanted and endless litters of kittens.

โ€ข Reduce the risk of disease:
Desexing reduces the risk of contracting infectious diseases like feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), and feline leukemia virus. These diseases can be transmitted through cat bites.

โ€ข Reduce aggressive behaviour:
Desexing reduces the likelihood of fighting and roaming, which can lead to injuries and infections.

โ€ข Reduce marking behaviour:
Desexing reduces the likelihood of spraying urine to mark territory, which can be a nuisance in the home.

โ€ข Reduce wandering:
Prevents wandering and disappearing for long periods seeking on heat females, and getting into fights with other cats.

โ€ข Improve your cat's health:
Desexing reduces the risk of developing reproductive organ-related illnesses, such as testicular cancer.

โ€ข Improve your cat's temperament:
Desexing can make your cat more affectionate, calmer, and happier.

โ€ข Reduce the strain on animal shelters:
Desexing your cat helps reduce the number of unwanted kittens that end up in animal shelters.

โ€ผ๏ธ The best age to desex a cat depends on its age, size, and medical condition, but it's generally recommended to neuter cats around four months old, after they've completed their primary vaccinations.

๐ŸŒŽ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15A7q2JAgf

If cost is stopping you from getting your boy cat neutered - this could be the answer. During November, you can get your cat neutered and microchipped (including registration on NZCAR) for just $50! There's also an option to add on flea and worm treatment for only $15 more.

There are limited spots under this great deal, that is being subsidised by Feral Nation. Book now so you don't miss out! T&C's apply - see comments.

I'm getting a bit tired of no further luck at Trentham so I've put the trail camera back where I'm trying to re-catch Bobbins, and I've spread our location further and am free trap feeding where I've seen several other cats, including a 3/4 month old kitten.

Give it a few more days and hopefully I can try again. ๐Ÿคž

Thank you everyone who has supported us by purchasing through candles for charity for the month of October ๐Ÿพ

"Considering we only started on the 14th of October, I have received a lot of support. ๐Ÿ’ช

The total amount raised this month (17 days)
is $187 - $96 goes to Rachel's KittyCat Rescue NZ and $91 goes into getting more supplies for candle making."

Thanks so much for your support Amy McNoe - and I hope everyone loves their candles, they look exquisite! :D Thanks for the pic Marjorie.

About Us

KittyCat Rehoming Wairarapa started in January 2017. The SPCA in the Wairarapa closed in 2015 and left a big gap in animal welfare in the area. Originally the group came into existence to rehome stray and abandoned cats, rehome cats for owners in difficult circumstances and tame feral kittens. KRW rehomed 33 cats and kittens in 2017 and 35 in 2018. Now that the SPCA in Masterton is open again and are looking after stray, abandoned and surrendered cats, KRW is concentrating on taming feral kittens and finding homes for them.

By taking in feral kittens and desexing the parents, KRW helps control the feral cat population and keep cats away from our wildlife. This decreases the feral cat population in a humane manner and not only improves the welfare of the cats, but of the environment as a whole.

Feral kittens are fostered by a network of foster carers until they can be adopted. Whether a kitten can be tamed is dependent on their age and temperament. The optimum age to tame a feral kitten is 8 weeks and under. Older kittens can be successfully tamed depending on their individual temperament but once they reach 16 weeks of age it becomes very difficult. It can take months of care before a kitten is ready to adopt.

Our adoption fee for kittens is $140. This helps cover the costs of desexing, vaccinating and treating for parasites. We also offer reduced rates to adopters for microchipping.
