Great morning to play with horses and to practice some healing modalities. My horses loved it 💜
Sharing a peaceful and trusting approach to helping animals with their behaviour issues
(35)
I love doing these sessions - its amazing working with people and their animals on this level and seeing the changes in just one session! It just the loveliest way to work with animals that are anxious or aggressive, going at their pace and helping them understand life doesnt have to be this way, they can come through this.
Great morning to play with horses and to practice some healing modalities. My horses loved it 💜
Gorgeous Diesel and his mum working in his worries outside. He is a very unconfident dog so showing him he can be more peaceful on lead will be a gamechanger. Mums doing her homework and is determined to help him - he will love this new way of being supported 💜
My new bestie for the weekend was Boy - he made sure I had someone to help me practice with and to cuddle while I was up in the beautiful town of Ngatea
I had a busy weekend learning more skills to help more dogs with their physical ailments. It was a huge weekend
Look at this face 🥰 this gorgeous young guy came for a visit through the week to take a romp around the offlead space.
He was delighted to have a run around and was full of smiles. If you like the look of him he’s keen for a new family through the amazing team @ Ellie's Canine Rescue & Rehome
He’s a bright young boy very keen to please and really amazing with other dogs, especially the foster pups ….what a great adoption prospect for a lucky family 💜❤️💜 ring ellies and ask for Falkor
I need to catch up on my posts - it’s been busy in the background but let’s get caught up :
This gorgeous boy has come for some extra help with his mum , she’s so keen to get him going differently- he gets a bit worried about some people and some dogs and he is a big dog to handle!
💜 looking forward to this journey and seeing his progress….he is so lovely
My fb reviews disappeared ! 🤷🤷🤷
I had 73 reviews which I was so grateful to have. They were real people saying real things and I always point new enquires to them as they are so powerful in people seeing it is possible to change a dog, and it’s possible over a few weeks, and I support you while you go on this journey etc.
I’m really sad fb decided to drop over half of my reviews- getting clients to write a review is hard enough without fb taking them away 😮
If any of my clients have a minute and would like to write a review on fb or on google I would really really really appreciate it 💜

Rosie came today to check out the off lead private dog park and this was her favourite thing in the whole park - the water hole.
She absolutely loved splashing about, popping her whole head under, laughing and jumping about having a blast.
She gives the new swimming hole/mud spa a 10/10 🥰 was fun watching her have so much fun
Busy day today and so much fun - the off lead area got a big bunch of obstacles. We’ve still got lots to do here but my dogs thought it was great fun having a go on the new (built today) obstacles.
Hubby picked up the cable reels on Monday and today we popped them in place. Then the builder came and started building the obstacles. I love that he is having fun building them for our dogs. My dogs loved trying them out….Bella and Keidi were right in there!
Still got a bit more to do but it’s coming together nicely
My friend Huxley concentrating on the new lead exercises last Sunday.
He came for his fourth session with me and looks so different than the dog I met. His body is so relaxed which tells me he is mentally relaxing now. His mum and dad are doing their best to implement all the new info and it’s showing up.
My husband was foolishly getting the hay for the horses at the time of our session so I grabbed him to show Huxley he could walk around strangers without a worry - he was gob smacked and so were his parents (his little face was full of wonder that he could do this so easily)
He really is enjoying each step in this journey and it’s gorgeous to watch.
From chaos to calm - 3 weeks in 💜
I have looked at the calendar and the weeks are just flying by. I had a look at the dates and for those that have asked me to do something like this 👇👇👇 I think I have just enough weekends to fit it in.
So to celebrate spring I wanted to offer a ten week course for clients that are seriously interested in really getting to the next level with their dogs going differently around other dogs.
I’m going to go over all the lead walking practices that encourage good behaviour from your dogs by teaching you better lead habits. We will drill down into the easy lead skills that support your dog - on short lead, long lead, and off lead (including recall) plus other good strategies when walking out in public.
We will practice in a real environment with other dogs - safely of course. Where you will be in a group that totally understand how hard it is with a reactive / overwhelmed/ over excited dog.
And they will also support you and cheer you on because they get it. There won’t be judgement or silly advice from bystanders and I promise no random dogs will be able to wander up with their person saying ‘it’s ok she’s a friendly dog’
In this series we will get to practice / repeat / repeat so you will feel completely confident with your lead skills and your dog out in public.
Topics I want to include are the
-short lead (and all the great reasons your dog changes behaviour with a short lead )
-Mid lead/long lead
-Off lead / recall
-Street sense
-Passing others
-yellow ribbons/No touching / strangers / it’s not ok
-getting your dog softer / no pulling
-what to do with offlead dogs approaching
-how to advocate for your dog
-muzzles / gadgets / leads etc
-introducing dogs to dogs
Etc
And in amongst it all I know we will have some fun.
Note this is for anyone that has completed a foundation session with me. Your dog does not need to be good on lead, it’s especially for the reactive dogs that need more practice 💜
If interested please pm me and I will lock it in if I get the numbers.
Details
Dates are possibly the 1st sept at 3.00 or the 7th at 3.00. And cost is $1150.00 For the ten sessions @ 1.5 hour each. Max 10 dogs. Homework 40 minutes a day - 20 trust and 20 lead work
Pm me if keen
This was on my memories today and coincidentally last week I had a similar conversation - I’ve worked hard to learn and practice everything I show you, and it cost me financially and emotionally. There is a cost to everything 💜 but I had a weird message recently about my work and the person thought I should be doing this work for free.
Umm….Did you know this is my full time job / business
When I was doing my 2 year Trust Technique diploma in animal behaviour I never dreamed it would all go like this - on this day in 2017 I did my first dog …..now I’m in the thousands
I started helping dogs and it took off through word of mouth. The results were real and people were impressed, so they gave my name to friends and strangers.
🩵
My study of the Trust Technique and becoming the first New Zealand practitioner was an investment in my passion- helping animals. I had no idea where it would lead me but I had been looking for something like this for so long, when I found it I knew I had to learn more.
It was expensive- both financially and emotionally. There were no discounts and definitely no shortcuts…. It took a commitment if time and focus. I spent thousands of dollars and thousands of hours - I had to fit it in between running a farm with 14 horses, 4 dogs, 4 cats, 2 goats and chickens, as well as working full time as a senior IT manager in the city….it was really really really tricky !
I’ve now been certified and working with dogs and horses for five years, building up so many hours working with the reactive, the anxious, the bad, the ugly and I’ve learnt so much and helped so many. My knowledge is extensive and I continue to study. I have many other courses and clinics over the years that I tap into sometimes to help clients with physical or nutritional assistance as well as the years of horsemanship study.
When you book a session with me you get all this knowledge and experience, as well as my support to coach and guide you through the process of learning how to support your animal in transforming their behaviour.
Because it is only me with this knowledge in my business, I only take a set number of clients per month. I offer support for clients along the way and this takes time. This is not a session and done.
So I charge for the above. I also donate the odd session to a dog in need around New Zealand.
I have had issues when I first started off and provided lots of info for free which then ended up being used without my knowledge and shared. I also have issues with people teaching the Trust Technique which they’ve signed a disclaimer binding them not to as they won’t have the knowledge of this method, when I am the sole certified New Zealand practitioner for dogs
I regard payment for my services as an investment in your pets wellness, health, and happiness ….a future that is different from the day you walk through my gate, and I know my clients would agree.
I do love this work and the results are worth every penny in my opinion 🥰

Gorgeous clover was absolutely done mentally from our session yesterday. It was a big change day !
We did some more lead work - adding in some fundamental habits for her mum that will support clover to not react when out walking.
Mums already noticed a huge shift in her walking with last weeks changes, so she was really keen to add this weeks info. Clover did so well - she even walked calmly politely (no lunging or reactiveness) around the barn while a stranger (my husband) loaded up the tractor with hay.
Then we finished with some more crate work as clover is sure she shouldn’t go in. Quickly she was staying in and calm even with the door open or closed. Good girl
💜 she gave me such a big thank you cuddle yesterday it was gorgeous. Go well clover
Hope you are all keeping warm and dry in this cold weather! My lot have been thru all their jackets and the garage is full of dripping coats and that wet dog smell …..(I wouldn’t change it for the world) 💜
These two lovelies were my third session on a busy Sunday.
Was their second session and we got talk to about all the triggers and how to help them with these.
Bowie thought he should tell me all about them while I tried to tell his mum and dad what to do in situations where the dogs get overwhelmed/over anxious / over excited by using the trust technique exercises.
We had a final quieter moment outside with Bowie to show dad how high thinking he is. He really softened in that moment with dad supporting him.
And Tess had a very quick (but rather dramatic 🥰) hands on healing right at the end, boy she liked that. Love helping dogs and people and can’t wait to hear how these guys all go
you would do it for a friend, a partner, a loved one…..I help you do it with your animals
This gorgeous boy had a big session yesterday.
Our third session was helping him with his walking on lead so that he can give up the pulling and stopping and getting lost.
We showed him he could do it differently 💜 and once he got the hang of it he relaxed right in and was trotting around with a smile on his face.
Then I showed mum and dad an exercise to help grow Huxleys confidence. Was a big session for him and he did so well. He was a tired pup by the end and this is his wee face - but I promise he was happy with himself
Busy Sunday started with this gorgeous boy-Zeus.
He has gotten worried about all the visitors in the house especially since his mum had a new baby.
We are going to help him be more relaxed with people 💜
Good things take time
Good things take some practice
Good things are worth this
💜
My client had all the ponies to herself 🥰 she came for the horse session today and we got to work on all her favourite practices with the herd. The horses loved the trust Technique with her and enjoyed her trying her hardest to approach in a way that would be really comfortable for them. Was a fun session 💜
Well today was a big day and has had a whole pile of big days to get to here….!
Over a year ago I started the wheels turning on creating a charity specially for rescue / rehomed dogs. I wanted to help these dogs transition into their new homes and thrive.
So in my spare time, and with the help of some very special people, I’ve gone through the ‘process’ and finally we are underway!
My passion is helping dogs with any and all behavioural issues, I want to help support rescues / fosters with their troubled dogs. I want to help new fosters and adopt families start thinking about emotional well being of the dog first. I want rehomed dogs to have a good chance of adapting to their new environment, and less dogs returned because they failed their trial.
My plan is to provide training in the trust technique plus practical professional training in good practices for rescue dogs ( *criteria apply) when the dogs move into new homes.
And all of this has come about with support from kind people who always ask ‘how can I help - how can I be part of it - what can I do to make a difference?’….now we have a chance- together we can make change happen 💜
It’s just the start of a new and exciting journey
Big thanks to all who have helped make this happen so far - you guys are gold🙏🙏🙏🙏
Road trip today to Otaki to have session 2 with Ollie and Roxie.
I got to show Roxie’s mum how to help her when she gets over excited at the noises -especially the television and especially if there is a dog on the tv !!! She even knows which ads have dogs and anticipates it all.
Mums tried different training and trainers and it hasn’t made any improvements, so today we got stuck in to do the second session. Today I showed mum how to use the trust technique with triggers / reactivity and she quickly had Roxie lying down (in between barks) with the all noisy things going on - we started slow but built up to the tv on high volume, at the same time a council mower and w**d eater (of course they chose today to give us extra training opportunity!!), and my phone on full barking dogs from google, ……and then a courier turned up 😮!
Throughout it all we supported Roxie towards calmer behaviour and I was really impressed how quickly she relaxed.
Well done mum, her week of practicing is coming in strong for Roxie and she is a clever pup so it won’t take her long to understand she doesn’t need to bark at all the noises, nor the tv, nor out the window at the world.
Photos of the dogs relaxing and moments of calm 💜
Clover came for another session and we covered as much as we could cram in.
Clover gets reactive out in the world especially worried about men, noises, dogs, stock. So we started our session with a lead walking reset to help support Clover.
Mums done loads of previous training and tried lots of things to help clover with her reactiveness….so there were some sad/happy tears when mum realised how the new information today would really help how clover goes on lead.
And it’s the key to them getting their goals, it’s been frustrating for them both. The previous trainer kept saying keep going but unfortunately it wasn’t working at all, mum says it was getting worse.
Well this practical info plus the trust technique I know the lead walking will change quite drastically quite quickly.
We also got to put some advanced work in with my goats. Clover got to see she could be peaceful in front of them 💜
Now it’s up to mum to practice it all ….and I know they will quickly knock off the big goals ….watching clover today she is keen to be more peaceful out there
Gorgeous Huxley was different today - 1 week in, his humans practicing the trust technique and you can see the subtle shifts and I think he looks completely different than last week.
Session two is all about lead work and setting this boy up so he doesn’t need to pull everyone down the street, nor jump and lunge when he sees a person or dog etc.
Was fun showing them a completely different approach to lead walking. And mum and dad are going to enjoy the new lead walking🥰 there were tears today as we discussed how it’s been really hard for them and they had been doing every thing the trainer told them to do.
Thing is - Huxley is scared, and the training practices were encouraging his scared behaviour (I see this sooo often) so they were in a real pickle.
But we are on a new day with a whole new way of going and Huxley was really happy about it 💜 he even asked me to pat him today he was that happy about it all
Busy busy Sunday, and what a gorgeous day to do it in.
The place was busy with a couple of dogs visiting the dog park plus clients coming for more good professional information on how to help their dogs with their behaviours.
Both trust sessions were big emotionally for their people 💜 and their dogs got the first experience of going differently on lead- it was great to watch both the dogs whole body language change.
Afterwards while the sun was still warm I took my dogs to the dog-park area for a run and to check out where lacie and cooper had been.
Big smiles today from Mila 💜❤️💜 I gave her a healing today and she loved it …..once we got started ! She wasn’t sure at first but was loving it in no time
My second session today that I’ve been looking forward to for a while. Meet Tess and Bowie - both are little anxious about life but Tess is extroverted so she shows you by jumping and mouthing and pulling on lead etc.
Her foster family are trying really hard to train her better but she isn’t understanding what they want and it’s getting frustrating for people and dogs!!
So today we did the famous first session- it’s like a reset button and it definitely stopped Tess in her tracks.
I know if this family get stuck into the homework they will have a different dog in a week…. And then we can really start to have fun!
We can show Tess how to be calmer in situations she finds hard. Can’t wait to hear how she goes

Watch hemi - we had 20 minutes changing walking habits yesterday 💜 the worst bits where he leans and pulls or drags back aren’t on camera but you can see his unconfidence on lead. Then we show him a different way - supported lead walking and he got better and better. I missed his gorgeous sit when mum stopped - he was smiling at us….💜 well done hemi #lovetrust #trusttraining #newdoghabits
These two are relearning how to be together, they came because they’ve been fighting. Today we started the work on bringing them together (safely) and setting them up for enjoyable interactions with support from mum and dad. Both dogs get anxious and also resource protective so the last few sessions have been working on their separation anxiety and crate training - then we are ready to start on the aggressive/reactive behaviours. Everyone is working hard and practicing the new habits, and the dogs are starting to show the effects of the trust technique exercises which is great. Now we are bringing in the big goals - which everyone is now ready for 💜 baby steps and lots of good support / practicing of the new habits and they will be away #newdoghabits #lovetrust #trusttraining Look how happy they both are with themselves at the end of the- walking together 🥰
Here’s a little video taken yesterday when we (me and the dogs) came in from outsides wild storm. The dogs settled pretty quickly and as you can see there was a cat in and Keidi was self managing. I havent done any cat training since last week but I am ready if Keidi gets too worried or bothered or overwhelmed or anxious etc about the cat. I will step in and use it as a training opportunity and support her….if she needs it. In the meantime she is self managing really well 💜
Heidi’s cat training 🥰 she’s going really well considering she would bark and scrabble run whenever she saw a cat. We’ve had 3 cats in the last couple of nights so got some good training in. And the video is this morning- starting to self regulate. I think she’s going great for 7 days in / 5 sessions.
Let’s show you zigs amazing progress.Zig came because he was struggling on lead and dragging dad around. The first two clips show you how he used to go - lunging, lost, crying …..dad was struggling to hold him and had to basically follow zig.We had been building up to yesterday - and it was magic to see the smile on dad’s face. This last video is yesterday in an open paddock, no treats or tricks, 20 minutes into walking he is starting to relax himself 💜 and dad is grinning from ear to ear
Yesterday I got to show this sweet girls mum and dad how to help her with seperation anxiety. Using the trust technique to help an animal feel calmer in times of stress is so powerful. This little girl finds it very hard to not be right beside mum, and gets so worried ! Yesterday we spent about 15 minutes going through an amazing exercise to show max she can be calm when mum leaves….and she got upset….cried…jumped around…and than lay down…and calmed It’s the beginning of a whole new way of going for her. Now they just need to practice and I should see a different dog next week 💜 #lovetrust #newdoghabits #trusttraining
Here’s Daisy 🌼 she can walk ! On my last session we walked the streets and she kept her four feet on the floor, she smiled most of the way, mum smiled the whole way…it was beautiful to watch. Then we went for a drive in the car ! And Daisy thought that was pretty good too. This was done in four sessions over four weeks: from can’t wear a lead and walk/can’t go out the back or front on lead/ definitely can’t go in the car to walking well on lead and growing confidence, and easily going in the car 💜 love this work #lovetrust #trusttraining #newdoghabits
This is Daisy who I worked with on the foundation programme. Her mum got in touch because Daisy couldn’t walk on lead, in fact she had a whole lot of trouble going outside full stop, and was toileting inside. Daisy also couldn’t go in a car. She would lie down or jump up on her mum (quite violently) twist, try to run away etc to not go in the car and to not walk forward. This was the first time Daisy went outside on a lead - it was a thousand times better than anything mum had done before me as they had started practicing the trust techniques and had practiced some lead work inside….but was still hard to watch Daisy being so scared. Tomorrow I will show you what a few sessions with me can do to show your dog they are safe and supported on lead. Here’s Daisy and mum showing me how hard it is for Daisy on her first attempt to go outside on lead
The rain has been and gone and it’s blue skies - the day is supposed to clear, so our group this afternoon is on. Wrap up warm it’s freezing out there! Looking forward to seeing everyone. And since I’m here let me show you a golden moment from this week : Albie walking with my Maddie We did one dog reactiveness session a month ago, and mum came back for an extra session so that she could start introducing her ex reactive dog to new dogs. We went through the 5 steps of how / why / where / when etc and then I gave her the lead. She did a beautiful job, so did Albie - we’ve worked a lot on his confidence and now when he knows he can do something…well he rocks it 💜🥰💜
Look at these amazing dogs and their people in group today. It was our last session of a series of four. They have all been learning recall as well as how to be around other dogs without getting involved (lunging and barking) and just be calm ….. you would never guess they were (ex) reactive / overwhelmed/ anxious dogs ! Great work guys you really did a great job 💜🫶💜 #newdoghabits
Got sent this yesterday from jassies dad - he writes ‘can you believe this is the same dog as a couple of weeks ago’ 💜 he does trust with her everyday and is so thankful to me and the team that got me there. Ps that car is where she got stuck when we were trying to get her out from under the house
Here is Jasper - first two videos were when I met him. Mum and dad showed me how he was walking on lead (pulling, lunging, tugging, etc) and the goal was to get him better on lead so the two teenagers could walk him. The last video is session 2 - Jasper walking WITH his teenager 💜❤️💜 was beautiful to watch Jasper understand how to walk on a loose lead 🫶🫶🫶#newdoghabits
Here is Ruby - this is when I first met her a few weeks ago. She didn’t realise she didn’t have to pull mum around when they are walking….fast forward a few sessions learning the Trust Technique and supporting Ruby on lead and she is starting to realise she can relax ….. see comments for her walk here yesterday with mum
Little Jassie - escaping her brand new home and living under a house for 2 weeks. We caught her yesterday - that’s her barking at me, an hour later I managed to get her on lead, gave her trust Technique and that’s new dad patting her for the first time 💜 hard to watch these vids today but I left her a different dog. 4 hours was all I had to do catching her / lead work / crate work / bodywork 🫶
