🌟 Up for Adoption: Sammie & Yoyo 🌟

🐾 Sammie (Pūkeko Sammie)
This handsome big boy loves kids and thrives on their company. While he can be a bit rude when meeting other breeds, Sammie is otherwise a true gentleman with a heart of gold. He’s a cheeky lad who enjoys life’s little pleasures—like trying to sneak some freshly picked strawberries! 🍓

🐾 Yoyo (Let’s Go Yoyo)
Yoyo is a beautiful, snuggly girl who has shown she’s trainable to live with cats! While she may be a little rude when meeting new dogs at first, she quickly warms up and shows her sweet side. Yoyo is ready to find a loving home where she can share her affection and charm.

Both Sammie and Yoyo are assigned to Greyhounds As Pets NZ

Cawbourne Crouch
13/02/2013 - 2/01/2025

Champion on the track, champion as a pet.

Crouch left us with a lot of incredible memories but our favourite would be when he got 2nd by a nose in the Group 1 Spion Rose in 2014 and he was able to come back and win the same race in 2015.

Thank you to Warren and Stu for being fantastic owners during his racing career and retirement.
He will always be remembered ❤️

⭐️ An Adobe Original ⭐️
We were so lucky to get sent these photos of the most gorgeous boy Lonesome Nitro.
Lonesome Nitro was our first group one winner back in 2015. When he retired he lived with us for about eight months before moving into his forever home with Lyn.
Thank you so much for sending us these photos 😍

As what has been a really tough year for many comes to an end in 2024 we want to say a big thank you to all of our adopters, volunteers, foster carers, GRNZ, Adobe Kennels/ Greatmates Kirwee staff, Greyhound breeders, trainers, kennel hands, racing associates, Lee from Lee Waddell Photography and finally to our beautiful Greyhounds. Without these wonderful people (and hounds) it wouldn’t be possible to do what we do and love doing.

Here are a few snaps of some of the many wonderful dogs who have found their homes this year and those fabulous people and hounds in our thriving little community.

We hope 2025, whilst very uncertain at present for our people brings brighter things. Nightrave Greyhounds South Island will continue to be here finding magical homes for our Greyhounds ❤️

As 2024 comes to a close, we’re celebrating an incredible milestone: working with over 100 amazing dogs this year!

This includes:
✅ Dogs rehomed into loving families
✅ Dogs placed into foster care
✅ A few lucky pups sent to Auntie Rachel up north
✅Privately adopted dogs who we hosted meet and greets for
✅ And the special ones who made the move to the USA to find their forever homes!

A huge thank you to Nightrave Greyhounds and Lisa from GAP for helping rehome so many of our darlings! And a shoutout to KiwiKiwi Hounds for finding the perfect match for Atlas.

None of this would be possible without the support of our amazing community, fosters, adopters, and everyone who helps make greyhound dreams come true. Here’s to an even bigger 2025! 💫

Special shout out to Goodogz Training Centre, Selwyn Rakaia Vets Ltd., Animal Orthopaedics Christchurch, Lee Waddell Photography, BB Design and our wonderful worker Caitlin, to name a few.

Us kennel staff adopted 4 dogs between us lol! Mitcham Magic, Victim of Speed, Runs Aplenty, and Shandell.

Cheers to all of you – and to the hounds we all love so much. 🥂🐶

Happy New Year! 🎆

✨Adobe Babies Available For Adoption ✨

All of these doggies up for adoption have been raised, reared and cared for around children and in a family environment.

Meet Max ☀️ - has found a home 🥳
The big loveable cat trainable goof
Max fractured some of his metacarpals as a puppy and has since had its rehabilitated and raced. Max comes from a very special litter and we know he will settle into pet life beautifully. Max has a bit of a fan club in the Nightrave community!

Meet Daisy 🌼
Loving and affectionate cat trainable girl
Daisy loves people and all the attention she can get because of her beauty. Daisy is cat trainable however, she would need to be in home with an extremely confident cat. She is uber sweet and just wants someone to love on.

Meet Creed ♣️ - half brother to Max!
This handsome boy is a true charmer – he’s calm, loving, and super cool to be around. Creed’s favorite activities include playing fetch, snuggling up for cozy cuddles, and just hanging out with his humans. He’s dog social and crate trained, making him a fantastic fit for families of any kind!

Meet Tasha ♦️
Tash is an enthusiastic, fun, cuddly girl who is eager to work. Tash is the type of dog who would race forever if she could! She adores working for praise and is absolutely suited for a life where she can chill on the sofa, but get out in the weekends and show everybody up!!

Fun Fact Friday
✨Why didn’t my greyhound race?✨

It’s true that some greyhound don’t want to race, we can’t force them to despite what many activists may say🤷‍♀️
Greyhounds are very intelligent dogs and like many dogs; temperaments and prey drive may vary from dog to dog.

Majority of greyhounds absolutely love racing however, some prefer the lazy life on the couch. So what are the reasons for a greyhound to not race?

1. Some greyhounds just have no interest. When breaking in a puppy for racing it can become clear very fast if the puppy is interested in racing or not. Typically, if the puppy isn’t interested while breaking in they will be retired young and will remain “Unraced”.
2. Some puppies may be born with medical issues. Unfortunately this can happen to any breed. They could be born with no/poor vision. They could have epilepsy. Any medical condition that affects racing will cause the greyhound to remain “Unraced” and likely to be rehomed as a puppy without even being broken it. It’s important to note that greyhounds are purebred and also suffer less health issues than many other breeds within New Zealand.
3. Puppies may unfortunately sustain an injury at a young age. When puppies are growing their joints and growth plates are not stable and can be more susceptible to injury. Puppies both in and out of homes are more prone to injury. Puppies can unfortunately easily injure their legs from jumping off things such as the couch.
4. Some greyhounds may decide they prefer playing and chasing other dogs than the lure. These puppies don’t necessarily race and are likely to be rehomed “Unraced”.
5. Too slow! Greyhounds must reach a certain qualifying time to qualify and be able to race. If the dogs are unable to meet this time (or do meet it but their times don’t improve) they may be retired for being slow puppies.

Why may a greyhound retire?
Greyhounds may retire for many reasons, sometimes relating to breeding, temperament, trainers, ect. Such as:

1. Injury. If a greyhound sustains an injury which the trainer would like to retire the dog from, they will then become retired.
2. Breeding, for many bi***es it’s common not to “over race a brood bitch” so many trainers may retire a bitch which they intend to breed with, at a younger age than normal.
3. If a trainer retires they may desire to also retire their greyhounds.
4. If greyhounds rather chasing other dogs or decide they are no longer interested in racing, they will likely become retired.
5. Age, many greyhounds are retired sound (injury free) and only retire due to age.
6. Owners would like the dog to retire. Some owners may decide to retire a greyhound early to take home as a pet. This doesn’t necessarily mean the trainer is the owner.

Want to learn more about your dog’s racing career and why they maybe didn’t race or why they retired?
Feel free to comment bellow your dogs race name and I can get you some information and in contact with the trainer👇👇👇

These guys got their Goodogz Training Centre basics level 1 certificate!

Been another great year working alongside the wonderful Karen De Wit, so we finished off 2024 on a real high!

We are so proud of these guys, and of course everyone else who may have failed on a few things… recall being one of them - go figure😆.

I am writing to you to raise my concerns and stand by many people who agree that Greyhound Racing should not be banned in New Zealand.

Following the Government's announcement that greyhound racing in New Zealand will soon end, close to 3000 dogs are likely to be put up for adoption.
