My heart is always in my mouth the first time the foalies get put out in the big paddock, especially with the long grass about at the moment. Mayflower made use of the bigger space and went like a rocket!! Poor mumma Annie was very anxious initially! Loving the cross of Burrowa Annwyn (Imp Aus) x Eryri Barcud Coch (AI UK), it definitely seems to click!

This exceptionally friendly little trouble maker has been given a name - meet Eryri Mayflower ♥️🦄 She has passed her IgG test with flying colours which is always another milestone to check off the long list with the foals.

Annie and Marmaduke have done it again!
Meet Mirabelle’s full sister, an exquisite bay filly who is already is doing zoomies and enjoying the beautiful spring weather!
She has lots of strengthening and unfurling to do but I love her! Very much like her sister ♥️ even though she is a very different colour!

Marmaduke turned 5 years old today - I truly do not know where the time has gone. He was a beautiful foal and in the last 6 months is seriously showing what he is going to mature into. I was never going to keep a stallion, but he is just the kindest, sweetest boy with beauty, exceptional movement and structure. He has been started under saddle but has never been shown in hand , which is probably a shame but I don’t need ribbons to tell me what I have in my paddock. Everyday it’s a pleasure to be around him ♥️ Happy Birthday Marmie!

Exciting news today with the arrival of Ballytruckle Quicksilver’s c**t by Marmaduke.
A great sized c**t with plenty of substance and quality - can’t wait to watch him un-scrunch!
Thank you to Craig Mott of MaesGorllewin Welsh Cobs for choosing to use Eryri Barcud Coch!

I’m super proud of my first filly foal Mirabelle by my young stallion Marmaduke. There is a little bit of resemblance between the two of them. Marmaduke is such a sweet chap & Mirabelle seems to have inherited the sweetness too!

Excellent news that research is confirming that horses cognitive abilities are more complex than previously believed.
Anyone with welsh cobs 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🦄 will tell you how incredibly smart they are especially when food rewards are involved - this doesn’t surprise me at all!

Team hopes findings will help improve equine welfare after showing cognitive abilities include being ‘goal-directed’

The aim of Eryri Welsh Cobs has always been to breed very small numbers of top quality, welsh Section Ds, initially with frozen semen, but is now utilising the young stallion, Eryri Barcud Coch (Marmaduke).
Marmaduke is by Gwynfaes Culhwch - a legendary stallion in Wales - who is an exceptionally consistent champion stock getter and has been awarded the UK WPCS sire ratings winner numerous times.
Marmaduke is out of the matriarch mare Ardachy Mary, who is now 26 years old and full of very old UK bloodlines, being the last foal of Sydenham Godetia (imp UK) by Llanina Morning Blaze (imp UK).
Marmaduke, home measured at 150cm, has an excellent temperament and will be one to watch for the future.
Started professionally under saddle last spring with no bother, he has a beautiful head, masses of quality bone, rhythmic and powerful movement and a great uphill structure.
Marmaduke’s four purebred foals arriving next year will contain an array of UK blood - two of the mares being new outcrosses for our welsh cob population here - the first is due in September, the last due in January. Two of the four foals are on their way for Eryri Welsh Cobs.
Eryri Mirabelle will welcome a full sibling, out of Burrowa Annwyn (imp Aus) and if Mirabelle is anything to go by, it should be another sensible, sweet lovely foal that has top quality structure and can move!
I am very excited to see what Hillswood Crackling Rose (imp Aus) will finally produce as she is such a beautiful mare just full of welsh quality and I feel she is very complementary to Marmaduke. If you are in the market for an exceptional purebred welsh cob foal with bloodlines that will help keep our breed moving forward, do not hesitate to contact me!
Eryri foals available for purchase will be well handled, DNA parentage confirmed, PSSM/MIM 6 variant tested if appropriate, tetanus & strangles vaccinated, de-wormed & gelded if necessary.

Weaning the bubbas is always a stressful time - even if they are getting nearly as tall as mumma!
I now do it gradually to try and reduce stress as much as possible (including for me!) The weather was finally going to be nice for at least a week with some actual
sunshine ☀️- so it was time!
I probably do it in an opposite way to everyone else - mare in the yard and foal in the paddock next door with a friend.
Seems to work best for me ☺️
And foal halter is off once initial introductions are successful!

Love this information! Really only sharing it to have it to refer to.

Socialisation of the youngsters is one thing I now put so much emphasis on.

Handling (halter & leading) is done when still on the mare, a herd situation before weaning, later weaning as long as the mare is holding weight & more gradual weaning.

Seems that my experiences and observations from breeding past young ones have made me change for the better! 🦄🦄🦄

Such pretty light this morning. Burrowa Annwyn (Imp AUS) and Eryri Mirabelle enjoying the early autumn warmth. It’s still so dry here, making it harder for mares with a rather large foal at foot!

Marmaduke is growing into such a handsome stallion, but is retaining all the sweetness in temperament that he always has had. He has so many other traits to add to antipodean cob breeding - athleticism, fabulous structure, limb quality and beauty. I am hoping the 2024/25 crop of foals shows his true worth as a sire! The two fillies to date have been crackers!

Hillswood Crackling Rose and Ballytruckle Juliet sharing their breakfast & accommodation. I never thought this paddock pairing would work as the both have quite dominant personalities. But they really do appreciate each others company without much fuss.

Marmaduke is certainly the gold under the rainbow 🐴🌈 I am hoping to make him available again to several outside mares next year as I feel he has so much to offer. Marmaduke’s two fillies on the ground are great types & he has four purebred foals due next year. Spaces will be strictly limited.

Eryri Barcud Coch (Marmaduke) is back from being started with Steve Houston. I was very pleased with how he was going with less than 30 rides under his girth. Marmaduke is looking extremely fit and healthy & is obviously still green, but I couldn’t have asked for a better result. Lucky chap gets to hang out with some cob ladies for the summer now.
