Providing Animal Services to the Whakatāne District. We often have dogs of all shapes and sizes available for adoption.

We provide Animal Services to the Whakatane District region. This page will showcase dogs that are available for adoption and will act as a forum to answer any questions you may have. We also offer Canine Education Programmes for various community groups, conduct school visits and offer an “Adults at Risk” programme. We often have dogs come into our pound that are either surrendered or are unclaim

ed strays. We carry out temperament testing of all unwanted dogs and if deemed suitable, they are offered for adoption. We work hard to ensure that the dogs looking for homes are matched with suitable families, ensuring that they don’t end up back with us! If you are interested in adopting a dog, or would like us to have a chat with us about potentially adopting one, please contact the Animal Control Team on 07 306 0500.

Stock (including horses) offered for Auction by the Whakatāne District Council (“the Council”) that have been seized pursuant to the Impounding Act 1955 do not have a known medical or behavioural history. The Council makes no representations about the health, condition, suitability or soundness of these animals. Potential buyers/bidders are encouraged to arrange a viewing of the animals with our Animal Control Team before the auction date, and to make their own assessment of the animal's condition and suitability. Any veterinarian inspection needs to be arranged by the prospective buyer at their own cost. Purchasing of any animal without viewing is discouraged. All purchases are made at the buyer’s risk and Council accepts no liability for any loss, costs or damages that may result from the purchase of stock from the Council. Payment and Collection of the stock must be made within 24 hours of end of auction unless otherwise arranged with the Council. If an arrangement has been made with Council to hold the stock, then grazing fees will apply. Grazing of $3.50 per day will be charged to the new owner from the day after the auction closes. If the stock is not collected within the time frames given the stock will be offered to the next highest or suitable bidder or re auctioned. Collection of the animal and all associated costs is the responsibility of the purchaser.
PLEASE NOTE: Council reserves the right to delete bids by new/suspicious profiles without notice. PM if you believe your bid has been deleted in error. Any comments other than Bids will be deleted.

Spring has sprung! Well, not quite, but babies are arriving in our rural sector. The smells of newborns can tempt even the biggest couch potato dogs to venture where they might not usually go. We have already started getting reports of dogs amongst stock, so please be vigilant in making sure your dogs cannot stray from home. Thanks!
