Successful adoption update 🐶

"Just wanted to send an update on Millie and to thank everyone for giving us the chance to bring her into our fam! She has adapted pretty amazingly - although some sneaky habits coming out that I get out watch on security cams we’ve fitted to watch her 😂 She’s lovely, calm with the kids and motivates me to get out walking every day! We are so lucky! She loves the beach, and had a blast running into the waves.

While we meet thousands of animals every year at SPCA, there are certain transformations that really stand out. Miles here proved his resilience and showed us his courage as he made an amazing recovery ❤

Coming into our care from our Inspectorate, he was underweight, and had chronic mange which led to a skin condition. On his long road to recovery, he had numerous medicated baths and parasite treatments, and needed time for his wounds to heal.

Seeing his goofy grin on the other side makes it all worthwhile – and we’re thrilled that he’s recently gone out on a trial adoption! 🥰 Happy Miles. Your new life is just beginning!

⭐ Volunteer Area Coordinators needed for three-day fundraising event! ⭐

Are you passionate about animals? Do you have excellent organisational skills and people skills? We want to hear from you! 🐶🐱

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us with an SPCA fundraising event in May. The fundraiser will take place across Friday 30 May, Saturday 31 May, and Sunday 1 June. As a volunteer Area Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in coordinating teams, managing logistics, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly in your location.

You may remember the sad and nervous face of Bear Grylls, an older cat who had been waiting for months to be adopted from our Whanganui Centre - well, we're elated to now share this boy's update for ! 🥳🙌

His new cat dad, Matthew, said "I chose him because we'd been looking for a cat for a while, and saw that he'd been waiting a long time while all the other cats were being picked - and we wanted to give him a good home."

"On the first day he stayed in one room, but we managed to get him out with plenty of treats, and now he roams the house as he pleases," said Matthew. "He's pretty comfortable around us and he loves to be patted. And we've finally gotten him to play games like laser pointer, mouse on a string, and even a mouse-tapping game on the tablet."

"He's doing very well, and we're even thinking of getting him a friend."

Our teams around the country are always thrilled to see their long-stay animals go on to their loving homes. We knew your big day would come around, Bear! ❤️

Meet Arlo - Your Future Adventure Buddy!

Hi everyone, my name is Arlo! I'm a 3-month-old pup learning so much with my amazing foster mum. Here's a little about me:

I'm not crate trained yet, but I like to hang out in my crate when the door is open.
I'm nearly fully toilet trained and always sit politely before meals.
Like all pups, I nibble a little, but I'm a great listener when told "no."
I'm food-driven and very clever, making training a breeze!

I love my toys and wear a harness and lead for short 30-minute sessions each day.
At night, I sleep on my foster mum's bed - I adore snuggling! I've started finding my voice with the occasional bark and I'm growing more confident every day, enjoying zoomies and playful moments on my own.
I have had my first vaccination and once I'm all up to date, I'll be ready to explore the big wide world with you.
I've got heaps of energy and will grow into a large-sized dog - just look at my big paws and squidgy face! My breed might be a mystery, but one thing is for sure - I'm absolutely adorable.

Meet Sophia - The Sweetest Belly Rub Enthusiast!

Sophia is a gentle, loving girl with a heart as big as her love for belly rubs. She adores being near her people and will happily spend her day snuggled up with you or enjoying a relaxing belly rub. Sophia's friendly and social nature shines brightest when she's surrounded by love, whether it's from her humans or other dogs.

Sophia would thrive in a home where she can have plenty of company-either with a family that's around most of the time or with another doggy companion. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and would love to share her life with a furry sibling.

While we're not sure how she feels about cats, we're confident she has the potential to make new feline friends with the right introduction.

Sophia's a bit on the curvier side right now, so her new family will need to help her get back into tip-top shape with a healthy diet and some fun exercise.
