Take extra care with indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Cats love to jump and sit on flat surfaces. If yours is used to sitting on a fireplace then please take extra care as you start using the fire. Last night a poor cat had a very sudden reminder that fireplaces are hot! Fortunately not too serious at this stage but a painful reminder.

After hours in Christchurch are seeing an increase in puppies with parvovirus apparently.
It seems to be more common in larger cities. Please be very careful with your puppies and consider not going to dog parks in Christchurch. Please also check vaccinations are up to date as these are really effective against this disease. Finally Parvo is a virus that survives on the ground for 15 months or so and shoes can also transport it.

As veterinarians report seeing a significant increase in the number of parvovirus cases, the New Zealand Veterinary Association Te Pae Kīrehe (NZVA) is calling on puppy owners to prioritise essential vaccinations to prevent heartbreak.

By now I hope everyone has a plan to keep their pets safe this Fireworks season. If you have scared animals this great idea from concert FM may help. Remember to keep the curtains closed and provide a suitable snuggly and safe where the sounds will be muffled.
For those needing additional help we have medications to help as well.

Late change of plans. Sad news for those wanting to catch up with our MP and cabinet minister Matt Doocey this evening at the opening. Another more pressing engagement has forced him to cancel at late notice for the opening this evening. We are still honoured to have the Waimakariri Mayor Dan Gordon who will now attend and do the official duties.

Hi all,
I need some local recommendations please.
Our new clinic at 8 Hinge lane Ravenswood shoud be open on the 4th March.
I am planning to have an "official" opening BBQ and coffee cart on the 15th March when people can have a look around the new clinic. Are there any recommendations for someone to run a BBQ and someone else for coffee and soft drinks as people have a look around the new clinic?
Would be great to have someone local but open to all suggestions. Thanks Nick

A little call out for help please. We are again short on newspaper to line our kennels and cat cages. We have been to the reuse store a couple of times in the last week and nothing there. Does anyone have bundled flat newspapers that can be donated to us please? Thanks again

Just some prior warning, a hot weekend coming up. Please remember pets die in hot cars, even with the windows open a little and in minutes. Please be careful.
As an aside, I (Nick) need to give my children some family time this school holidays. As we have other staff on holiday I will be sending all weekend after-hours to Christchurch after-hours clinic while we have a weekend together. Take care, Nick
