Take extra care with indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Cats love to jump and sit on flat surfaces. If yours is used to sitting on a fireplace then please take extra care as you start using the fire. Last night a poor cat had a very sudden reminder that fireplaces are hot! Fortunately not too serious at this stage but a painful reminder.

After hours in Christchurch are seeing an increase in puppies with parvovirus apparently.
It seems to be more common in larger cities. Please be very careful with your puppies and consider not going to dog parks in Christchurch. Please also check vaccinations are up to date as these are really effective against this disease. Finally Parvo is a virus that survives on the ground for 15 months or so and shoes can also transport it.

As veterinarians report seeing a significant increase in the number of parvovirus cases, the New Zealand Veterinary Association Te Pae Kīrehe (NZVA) is calling on puppy owners to prioritise essential vaccinations to prevent heartbreak.

By now I hope everyone has a plan to keep their pets safe this Fireworks season. If you have scared animals this great idea from concert FM may help. Remember to keep the curtains closed and provide a suitable snuggly and safe where the sounds will be muffled.
For those needing additional help we have medications to help as well.
