Fast jeder Meerwasser-Aquarianer kennt sie und und wurde in seinem Becken schon damit konfrontiert: Cyano-Bakterien.

Tropic Marin Cyo-Control verhindert auf natürliche Weise das erneute Auftreten von Cyanobakterien im Aquarium. Nachdem die Cyanobakterien manuell entfernt wurden, siedeln sich die probiotischen Bakterien von Tropic Marin Cyo-Control an ihrer Stelle an. Sobald sich diese Bakterien etabliert haben, verdrängen sie die Cyanobakterien und verhindern, dass sie sich erneut ansiedeln. Das Zeolith-Substrat unterstützt die probiotischen Bakterien bei diesem Prozess und sorgt dafür, dass das Wasser nach einer kurzen Phase der Trübung extrem klar wird.
Tropic Marin Cyo-Control enthält keine Antibiotika, keine Biozide, keine Toxine.

Today we get an exclusive insight into the world of coral farming. Together with Dr. Samuel Nietzer and Tropic Marin, a special kind of farm is being set up here. The research facility is located in Wilhelmshaven and belongs to the University of Oldenburg.

With the new colonies settling in the new Mother colony systems, it's important to find the right balance in light, nutrient addition and removal.
In a new system this can take some time, as bacterial processes need to develop, algae which can soak up a lot of nutrient can bloom, and subside again. There is a lot going on in the beginning.
It's important to keep a close eye on your Acropora in this stage to make sure they are not under- or overfed. Our systems are a bit lean at the moment due to the green algae growing on the bottom glass, so we add some Tropic Marin Phyton and Tropic Marin Zooton daily to boost the nutrient levels a bit, and feed the corals.
But won't this feed the algae as well? Yes, without removal by fish and manual removal, algae can grow too fast. On a longer term the system will stabilise and green algae will be inhibited my coralline and coral growth.

I promised you all an update of our new systems for our mother colonies. The system has been running super stable, and the first ICP was so spot on that we felt confident enough to move our first mother colonies upstairs last week.
Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt, Tropic Marin Nitribiotic, A- and K+ traces combined with some live rock has proven to be a smooth and quick way to cycle new systems.

Before the mother colonies went into their new dedicated system, we put them through 2 weeks of QT again to be super secure they they are clean and healthy.
We gave them all a bigger tile to further grow out their base and produce many more frags in the future, hopefully.
Ca and Alk uptake is starting to rise now and we closely monitor and dose Balling Elements A, B and C to keep up with demand.

I'll try to shoot some more decent photos next week to show off some of our best species that we collected over the last 6-7 years!

Reflexión sobre los cambios de agua!

When I began reefkeeping in the early 2000s, performing water changes was considered essential for success. The underlying philosophy was to dilute harmful substances while replenishing beneficial ones. Nowadays, an increasing number of reefkeepers achieve success without relying on water changes. Instead, they use additives to regulate specific elements and base their dosing on ICP testing.

However, at our farm, we still consider water changes to be a crucial part of our maintenance routine. They offer a reliable method to dilute or introduce compounds, particularly those that cannot be easily measured. Water changes also ensure the maintenance of the ionic balance among elements. Additionally, they provide an opportunity to clean out areas of the tank where detritus tends to accumulate ;)

As for our water change schedule, we perform them regularly. The frequency and amount depend on various factors specific to our setup. We observe and measure numerous benefits resulting from these water changes. They contribute to a healthier and more stable environment for our reef, which in turn promotes the well-being of the organisms within it.
