We are still in the process of changing from a local tarantula page to a combination of local tarantulas and reptile pages. We hope that this transition will be successful and that it will grow to be as large as one of the others we admire. We appreciate your warm welcome as we go through this stage of our transition.

We have for you all a beautiful photo of Super Snow Diablo Blanco and Super Snow Eclipse.

Examining the lyrate and spermathecal morphology of this small Dumaguete tarantula species. This is to determine whether the specimens we have are Orphnaecus sp. Valencia. The tombstone-shaped spermatheca and paddle-like or club-shaped lyra from the maxilla confirm that this is from the genus Orphnaecus. In addition we also examined it's physical features by looking at its Leg IV we can tell it is Orphnaecus sp Valencia because of the thick metatarsus.

The first time witnessing this lovely species breeds in captivity, this small sized Orphnaecus only ranges from 2.5 inches to 3.25 inches for mature males and 3.5 inches to almost 4 inches for the females. They are ground dwellers rather than remaining under the leaf litters and are famous for hunting fish in their natural environment.

Four years ago, a friend gave me a matured female of a species known as "Selenocosmia peerboomi." When I asked where they got it, they said they hunted it in Antipolo, Rizal. Knowing that it could be a new species, we noticed that it belongs to the genus Orphnaecus. In the coming years, we will attempt to describe this species with the assistance of local researchers and taxonomists.

Two of the Negros Islands' beautiful unidentified species. The uncommon dwarf species Selenocosmiinae sp Negros Rusty Legs and the Orphnaecus sp Valencia, which is suspected of hunting prey under water.

Can you spot the small Trapdoor spider on the photo?

Hello! My last upload was quite some time ago. We conducted a research paper about a new species of tarantula in Antipolo, Rizal in 2018-2019, and we were successful in identifying it as a new species of the genus Orphnaecus. There hasn't been much progress on the species, but this time we plan to keep researching it and hope to identify and describe it soon.
Our beloved university's research/thesis team is currently looking for specimens from Antipolo, Rizal for further research purposes.
