Gastric Dilatation Volvulus is a condition wherein the stomach bloats and twists around itself. The exact cause is unknown, but factors like age, genetics and eating habits can make the dog more susceptible in developing this condition. Symptoms of GDV commonly appeared as enlarged abdomen, rapid, shallow breathing, increase in heart rate, pale gums, excessive salivation, unsuccessful attempts to vomit, and restlessness. The only cure for GDV is an operation to reverse the twist.

Phoebo, a 4-month old male American Bully was brought to the clinic due to a sudden enlargement of his abdomen. Panting and pain in the abdomen when touched was also observed during presentation. X-ray was performed after noticing the enlargement and was confirmed as GDV and emergency surgery was performed.

Thankfully, the surgery was successful and we are praying for Phoebo's complete and fast recovery.
