DEMODECOSIS/DEMODECTIC MANGE

Ito ay isang uri ng GALIS sa a*o. Ang karaniwang sanhi nito ay ang Demodex canis, isang parasito(mite) na naninirahan sa mga ugat ng balahibo ng mga a*o. Sa ilalim ng mikroskopo, ito ay hugis sigarilyo na may walong paa(larawan sa ibaba).

Ang mga normal na a*o ay may ilan sa mga "mite" na ito sa kanilang balat. Hangga't ang immune system ng katawan ay gumagana ng maayos, ang mga parasitong ito ay hindi nagdudulot ng pinsala.

Ang demodectic mange ay kadalasang nangyayari kapag ang isang a*o ay may hindi pa sapat na resistansya (immune system), na nagbibigay-daan sa mabilis na pagdami ng mga "skin mites" na ito. Bilang resulta, ang sakit na ito ay pangunahing nangyayari sa mga a*ong wala pang labindalawa hanggang labingwalong buwan ang edad. Habang tumatanda ang a*o, tumatanda at lumalakas rin ang immune system nito.

Ang mga sintomas nito ay unang lumilitaw bilang mga patch ng paonti onting pagkawala ng buhok at mapulang mukhang kaliskis na balat (scaling skin) . Ang buong katawan ay maaaring natatakpan ng pamumula, impeksyon, malakaliakis na anyo ng balat (scaling skin), pamamaga, at mga tuklap ng balat (crusts).

Ang nasa ibaba ay isa sa mga naging pasyente na mayroong sakit nito.

CANINE PARVOVIRUS (CPV) INFECTION 😔

Sa patuloy na pag usbong at paglago ng Medisina Beterinarya sa ating bansa, hindi maikakaila na isa pa ring hamon ang pagtuturo ng tamang pag alaga ng a*o o pusa lalo na sa mga probinsya. Minsan mahirap kumbinsihin na dalhin ang kanilang mga alagang hayop sa isang klinika ng hayop o sa beterinaryo para sa tamang pagsusuri, pag-iwas at paggamot ng mga sakit. Ngunit sa tuluyang pagdating ng modernisasyon at globalisasyon ay panahon na upang ipaalam at makialam. Ika nga, ligtas ang may alam. 🙂

Ang nasa ibaba ay isang pasyenteng may impeksyon ng Parvovirus. 😔

Ang parvovirus ay isa sa mga "peste" ng a*o na nasa lahat ng dako.
Ang canine parvovirus infection ay isang lubhang nakakahawa at nakamamatay na sakit ng mga a*o. Hindi ito nasa hangin ngunit halos lahat ng lugar ay nagdadala nito, kabilang ang balat ng tao. Maaari itong mabuhay sa kapaligiran nang maraming buwan hanggang 2 taon.

Nakukuha ito ng mga a*o sa pamamagitan ng direktang pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga a*ong maysakit nito. Ito'y sa pamamagitan ng "feco-oral route" kung saan ang a*o'y didilaan ang dumi ng nahawaang a*o o sa nahawaang kapaligiran).
Karaniwang nakakaapekto ito sa mga tuta (mas mababa sa 1 taong gulang) na hindi nabakunahan o kasalukuyang kinokompleto ang bakuna.

Ito ay isang napakalubhang virus o "peste" na umaatake sa bituka na nagdudulot ng matinding mabahong amoy at madugong pagtatae, pagsusuka, kawalan ng kakayahan kumain at pananakit ng tiyan. Ang mga apektadong a*o at tuta ay nagiging mahina, matamlay at "dehydrated" (nauubusan ng mga importanteng tubig sa katawan). At saka, ang virus na ito ay inaatake ang puso (myocarditis) na pwedeng magdulot ng pag-aresto sa puso (cardiac arrest).

Ang ganitong sakit ay kadalasang binibigyang-kahulugan ng mga may-ari bilang pagkala*on ("baka may nakain", "baka nila*on/nala*on") Oo, maaari silang magkasabay na mga impeksyon kung mapapatunayan ng confirmatory laboratory tests.

WALANG GAMOT para sa sakit na ito. Ngunit maaari itong pigilan ng PAGBABAKUNA.
Mangyaring pabakunahan ang iyong mga alagang hayop laban sa nakamamatay na sakit na ito.
Bisitahin ang iyong pinakamalapit na doktor ng alagang hayop at hayaan silang talakayin sa iyo ang pinakamahusay na programa ng pagbabakuna para sa iyong mga a*o.

Ang pag-iwas ay mas mabuti kaysa pagalingin. Ang pag-iwas ay mas mura kaysa sa paggamot. Pabakunahan ang iyong mga alaga sapagkat gumagana ang bakuna.

This is how the causative agent of CAT SCABIES or MANGE or GALIS PUSA looks like when magnified under a microscope. 🔬 Isn't it scary? 😨

FELINE SCABIES IS A HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS PARASITIC SKIN DISEASE of cats and kittens.
This condition typically begins with itchy crusts and scales on the ear margins. It progresses to involve the face and ultimately covers the entire body resulting to hair loss & inflammation.

It can be transmitted to other pets or to humans. The mites are spread by touch or contact and they can certainly infect humans, dogs, or rabbits.

Ming-ming, a 2 years old male cat, was brought & triaged in our clinic then was diagnosed to have a urinary tract blockage or Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD).

It means that the urethra (the tube that drains urine from the bladder out of the body) is blocked by inflammatory materials which, in the case of our patient, are small crystals that had formed in the bladder.The blockage causes urine retention w/c can complicate into rupture of the urinary bladder. It is more common in male cats solely fed with dry food/kibbles.

Ming-ming was placed with a urinary catheter to flush out the blockage. The patient was confined for intensive medications & monitoring until he was able to urinate on his own. The patient is now on a veterinary prescription diet to reduce the chances of future recurrence.

FLUTD is an emergency case.

Here is Sky who had a fight w/ another dog. Unfortunately, her right eye was severely damaged that surgical removal is the only medical remedy.

Enucleation is most commonly advised to relieve uncontrollable pain associated with an eye problem.
The most common rea*ons for enucleation include:
1. glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye),
2. neoplasia (cancer inside or around the eye),
3. severe trauma that cannot be repaired surgically, and
4. severe infection/inflammation that cannot be managed with medication

Last night's emergency case: Calcium tetany/milk fever

Jillian, an almost 4 years old Pomeranian-Shihtzu, a 1st time mom of 2 weeks old 3 milk hearty puppies, was rushed to the clinic as an emergency due to restlessness/panting, swift movements, inability to walk, muscle stiffness/spasms to convulsion.
Upon medical assessments, she was diagnosed with calcium tetany/milk fever/eclampsia. She ran out of calcium for the sake of her furbabies. After a series of medical interventions, thankfully, Jillian recovered.
Indeed, a mother's love is the purest & the most sacrificial of all. 💜

Eclampsia or hypocalcemia or puerperal tetany or calcium tetany is an emergency medical condition associated with a life-threatening drop in blood calcium levels that occurs in nursing mothers. It can also occur before giving birth.

Heartworm disease (Dirofilariasis) is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms/Dirofilaria immitis) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body.

Signs that your pets may have the disease are:

🫀 Inactivity or laziness
🫀Weightloss & loss of appetite
🫀Shallow & rapid breathing
🫀 Distended chest

If you observe:
👂 Excessive scratching of heads & ears
👂 Head shaking
👂 Immediately dirty ears after cleaning just a few days ago
👂 Foul-smell coffee-like granules ear discharge
👂 Red & inflamed ears

These may be signs that they have been infested w/ a microscopic ear parasite called Ear mites. They are highly contagious and can be transmitted through direct contact w/ infected pets. If left untreated, ear mites can cause deafness and imbalance problems.
