Pyometra (closed) on a 3 year-old American Bully 🐾🐶

WHAT IS PYOMETRA?
▪️Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF PYOMETRA?
▪️It is caused by hormonal changes and, most commonly, the bacteria E. coli that can ascend from the va**na into the uterus.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY DOG HAS THIS INFECTION? WHAT ARE THE CLINICAL SIGNS?
▪️The severity of signs of a pyometra will depend on whether the cervix (entrance into the uterus) is open or closed. More severe signs of illness will occur when the cervix is closed. Vaginal discharge that is cream-colored or bloody is the primary sign when the cervix is open. Other signs includes:
- Vaginal discharge
- Lethargy
- Poor appetite
- Increase thirst and urination
- Distended or painful belly
- Vomiting
- Fever
- Pale gums
- Weakness or collapse

HOW DO I PREVENT MY DOG FROM THIS DISEASE?
▪️Pyometra is entirely preventable if a dog is spayed before the development of infection in the uterus. A spay to remove the ovaries and uterus is recommended to prevent pyometra.
▪️Having your dog spayed while young and healthy is safer and less costly than waiting for an emergency pyometra spay.

A 7 month old, male, mixed breed (Golden Retriever X Belgian Malinois) named Chase was rushed in the clinic on August 8, 2023 due to a car accident. Upon examination, his legs was crushed and was adviced to undergo leg amputation. Blood tests were done prior to the surgery and was there also diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis, a bacterial infection spread through tick bites.

After a month of medication and revisiting the vet, yesterday, a 3-legged furry friend with a wagging tail, a tongue out with a smile on his face had a last visit in the clinic. Chase was on his way to recovery! Both from the surgery and from ehrlichiosis.

Way to go Chase!!! 💪🐶

This is Jerry, a 2 year-old Belgian Malinois reminding all furparents to refrain feeding your pets chicken bone.

Thankfully this piece of bone has been successfully removed from Jerry's throat and is now again enjoying every bit of his meal. 🥳🐶

A case of hind leg amputation to a 4 year old, female, Belgian Malinois named Madonna who was ran over by a motorcycle resulting to a complete open fracture leaving us with no available choice but to cut the leg out.

This procedure was done in partnership with JCJ Veterinary Clinic located at Lakandula Street, Baguio City.

Madonna is now on her way to recovery. 🙏😊

TO ALL WHO MIGHT HAVE BEEN BITTEN BY A STRAY DOG YESTERDAY FROM AYYOWENG STREET UP TO SUM-AT-SAC-ANGAN ROAD, YOU ARE ADVISED TO VISIT THE ANIMAL BITE AND TREATMENT CENTER AT THE BONTOC GENERAL HOSPITAL.

FURTHERMORE, KINDLY OBSERVE YOUR DOGS FOR ANY SIGNS OF INJURY AND PUT YOUR DOGS ON LEASH AND CONFINE THEM IN YOUR COMPOUND FOR OBSERVATION.

TEAM FROM THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIT AND THE BONTOC PNP IS TRYING TO LOCATE THE SUSPECTED RABID DOG.

THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY. POSSIBLE RABIES CASE!

Greetings!
It has come into our attention that some of dog breeders in our locality is already practicing "self vaccination". It is very alarming to us because this kind of practice can put the general health of our pets into danger due to several reasons. As seen in the 1st picture below, the Vaccination card shows that the dog received 3 shots of good quality vaccine and yet was diagnosed with CPV (Canine Parvo Virus) as shown by the CPV Test kit and no signature of a Licensed Vet. (maybe the breeder itself). This occurence maybe due to improper handling and storage of vaccines, improper timing of vaccination, improper route of administration, and many more factors which the breeder or "ghost" has done. We urge every fur parent and incoming fur parent to please help us stop this kind of action by not patronizing or buying puppies/kittens from them without any proof that they were checked and well vaccinated by a Veterinarian. A simple proof of this is a Vaccination Card signed by a Licensed Veterinarian.

To all breeders who have a private veterinarian who is there to guide them, regularly check their pets and give their puppies the proper vaccines and other interventions needed, you are all doing a great job! Kudos to you all ma'ams and sirs!!

To all breeders who do "self vaccination" and "self medication", we ask you to please stop this non-sense kind of act and ask assistance to a Veterinarian. What you are doing does not just put the animal's health at risk but also put your kennel into jeopardize. Breeding is not just all about money and profit, it also needs proper T.L.C. (Tender, Love and Care). Doing this risky kind of practice inside your kennel will not do anything good for you.

This post is to help awareness to the public and not to cause any kind of damages to people who feels guilty upon reading this. 😊🫰

Simple tip on how would you know if the pet you're going to buy was vaccinated by a licensed veterinarian:
1st and foremost, the Puppy should have a vaccination card and secondly, if you cleary read the notation on the upper right corner of your pet's vaccination card, it says VETERINARIAN with LICENSE NUMBER, thus, it is clear enough that the person who should sign this part should ONLY be a Licensed Veterinarian and NOT of any kind of profession, not even "BREEDER". If you see this kind of Vaccination Card (as shown in the 2nd picture), please come into your mind and think that if the breeder doesn't know that this part should only be signed by a Licensed Veterinarian as what is stated above and yet he/she signed, then this breeder doesn't know how to read, then how much more does he/she know about vaccination!

PS. This post doesn't only apply here in our place where we give our service but also all through out the country.

Recognizing the health risks caused by pet droppings/f***s, the Sangguniang Bayan passed on its first reading the proposed ordinance directing or mandating the immediate cleaning or removing of f***s of dogs and other pets in public or private properties not owned by the owner or person in charge of the dog or pet and imposing penalties in violation thereof.

It was stipulated in the proposed ordinance that pet owners or any person in charge of the dog/pet are required to immediately clean/remove the f***s if defecation is done in public areas or private places not owned by the pet owner.

Further, indiscriminate throwing of the pet’s excreta shall be considered a violation of the ordinance since receptacle compost pits or bins shall be provided.

A fine of ₱1,000.00 shall be collected from any person who is found guilty of violating the said ordinance.

The ordinance is sponsored by SB Member Benedict Odsey II.
