Went there with only my phone and car keys, and went home with these many doggie stuff, a new watch, and lots of memories with my fellow Chihuahua enthusiasts. 🎊

We had a sponty kennel visit last March 6 from a lovely couple. And as soon as they saw and held Rihanna, they couldn’t let her go. And so little girl went to Mabalacat, Pampanga that same day. She looked very happy as seen in her photos. ❤️💛

BREEDING CONTROVERSY

❌ “Adopt don’t shop”
✅ “Adopt or shop responsibly”

❌ “There are strays because there are breeders”
✅ “There are strays because there are irresponsible breeders/owners”

I disagree with the phrase “Adopt don’t shop” simply because it contributes to the mass misunderstanding na kapag bumili ka ng a*ong may lahi, ay masama at ‘fake dog lover’ ka na. It’s also unfair to ethical breeders because they are being blamed for other peoples actions, when they’ve never intended for dogs to be in shelters and be euthanized. I really think this is mostly unfair to dogs with breeds too kasi, it’s like saying na wala silang karapatan na mahalin at makahanap ng tahanan when they do deserve it as much as strays do.

Personally, I love ‘Aspins’ as much as I love other breeds and they are part of my plans for the future by owning a dog shelter someday. But breeding and shopping ain’t wrong too as there are many factors why people get certain breeds:
1. People are getting a certain breed that matches their lifestyle and the dogs level of maintenance and breed specific temperament. For example, I got me a Chihuahua dahil mahina sa food, malinis sa loob ng bahay, at super dedicated sa owner. Another example is someone getting a Bichon Frise dahil hypoallergenic. And someone getting a Golden Retriever because it’s family and kid friendly. Mga bagay na hindi lahat ay makukuha natin sa rescues. May mga problema din ang rescues like aggressions and separation anxieties (from their past owners) na hindi angkop sa bawat magaadopt, kaya nga may profiling. But eitherway, adopt or shop, it’s okay.
2. Purpose-breeding. Bawat breed ay may kakaibang abilidad na napapakinabangan ng tao. Unang sample ay Labrador na kadalasan ay ginagawang service dogs. Isa pang halimbawa ay German Shepherd na nagiging guard dogs. At iba’t-ibang breeds na ginagawang working dogs, therapy dogs, hunting dogs, etc. At kung ipagkakait pa ang breeding, ay paano na lang ang mga pakinabang natin dito?
3. These breeds came from a reputable and responsible breeders. Meaning, inalagaan nila ito ng mabuti, hindi tinipid, complete vitamins, scheduled dewormings and vaccinations, well-sheltered, at nabigyan ng atensyon. Kabaliktaran ng ‘backyard breeders’.

“There are strays because there are irresponsible breeders/owners”. Hindi po magkalaban ang breeders at shelters. Ang tunay na kalaban ay ang puppy mill, backyard breeders, at irresponsible owners. Sila usually yung mga walang sapat na knowledge or budget para bumuhay o magpadami ng a*o. Isa-isahin natin:
1. Puppy mill/backyard breeders - they are usually the ones who see dogs only as business. Walang sapat na knowledge sa certain breed na inaalagaan nila, at lalong walang pagmamahal. Dogs are usually caged their whole life at kadalasan ay siksikan pa sa enclosure. Hindi din sila binibigyan ng vitamins or pinapacheck-up. Pinaka-maling gawain nila sa breeding ay (1) “Inbreeding” o pagmamate ng magkamaganak which causes genetic problems, (2) sunod-sunod at walang pahinga na pagbubuntis ng dam which compromise the health of both the mother and the puppies, at (3) cross-breeding na nakakaapekto sa quality at pagiiba ng temperament ng a*o. Sila din yung nagbebenta ng mura sa mga dogs na nagcacause ng oversupply pero low in demand tulad na lamang ng nangyari sa market ng Shih Tzu at BM.
2. Irresponsible owners - sila yung budget mealers na sa kagustuhan lang magkaroon ng a*ong may lahi, bibili sila without proper knowledge on a certain breed. Kapag hindi nila nagustuhan ang temperament or maintenance kasi hindi naman nila inaral, pinababayaan na lang kasi mura nga lang naman nila nakuha so walang panghihinayang. Sila din yung kapag mayroong male, bibili pa ng female para may kapares so dadami ang lahi, ibebenta ng mura, and the cycle goes on.

We should educate other people about the real problem in breeding. If you agree with this, kindly SHARE and end the stigma against all breeders.

A nice couple inquired about Chocnut and showed interest so their baby boy Chi at home won’t be alone anymore. They’ve agreed to kennel visit and check my babies environment and health status in person (as they should). The moment they saw Chocnut, they had this big smile on their faces with excitement too evident. It was PRICELESS. They liked her size, her playfulness, and the way she followed me around. It was when I realized why I love doing what I’m doing. Producing bundle of joys that’ll make homes brighter. 🐶❤️💛🐾 PS: please excuse my JWU look. 😜
